Charles Lee Potter, age 73, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 3, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born onDecember 20, 1938, at Jackhorn, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was a retired coal miner and was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. He had previously beena member of the Neon Lonesome Pine Lodge #884 F&AM.
He was a son of the late Isaac & Annie Little Potter, and was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Potter, on June 9, 2011. Mr. Potter was also preceded in death by two sons, Gary LeePotter and David Ray Potter; a sister and a brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Rinda Vae Bentley, of Jackhorn; a son, Michael Wayne Potter, of Jackhorn; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Mae Day,oc Cowan; two brothers, Sam Potter, New Lexington, Kentucky, and Ruben Potter, of Whitesburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Carty Funeral Home Chapel, Neon, KY on Friday January 6, 2012, at 11:00 AM, with Delmar Isaac, officiating. Interment was at the Ruben PotterCemetery.
Eulis Alfred Adams, age 82, of Haymond, Kentucky, passed away Saturday January 7, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He wasborn on August 29, 1929, at Haymond, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. He was a retired coal miner and had been a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Adams was of the Presbyterian faith.
He was a son of the late Watson & Dora Kincer Adams, and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Stevens and Nancy Howard; and three brothers, Carl Adams, B.J. Adams, and WilliamG. Adams.
Survivors include three daughters, Eula Jean Sullivan, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Elizabeth Ann Peck, Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Ruby Ann Phillips, of Payne Gap; three sons, William G. Adams, Goose Creek, South Carolina, Eulis Alfred "Al" Adams, Moorehead, Kentucky, and Eulis Alfred Adams II, Cromona; a step-daughter, Pebblia Fluharty, BeanBlossom, Indiana; a sister, Maggie Lee Perry, Benton, Illinois; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Carty Funeral Home Chapel, Neon, KY, on Monday January 9, 2012, at 11:00 AM, with Tommy Phillips and Lester Boggs, officiating. Interment was at theWebb Cemetery, Mayking.
Norma G. Napier, age 80, of Seco, Kentucky, passed away Thursday January 12, 2012, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on October 25, 1931, atBurdine, Kentucky, and lived nearly all of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker and had worked as a grade school cook for the Letcher County School System. Mr. Napier was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the late Ben & Martha Vanover, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Burchel Napier; and two brothers, Kirby Vanover and Don Hughes.
Survivors include her children, Ernie Napier (Brenda), Lexington, Kentucky, Carol Bentley (Stanley), Indianapolis, Indiana, Douglas Napier (Joanna), Millstone, Kentucky, and JudySparks (Rick), of Smithfield, Utah; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister, Gleama Allmeyer, St. Louis, Missouri; a brother, Carl Hixon, Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bessie Marie Cantrell, age 97, of Fleming, Kentucky, passed away Thursday January 12, 2012, at her home. She was born on September 17, 1914, at Rockwood, Tennessee, andhad lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of Victory Temple Church, in Neon, Kentucky.
She was a daughter of the late Harold & Ada Simpson Isabell, and was the widow of Woodrow Cantrell. She was also preceded in death by three daughters, Margaret Ann Kincer, Mable Kincer,and Audrey Franklin; three sons, Robert Larry Cantrell, Ernie Wayne Cantrell, and William Randy Cantrell; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters and abrother.
Survivors include a son, Harold "Lucky" Cantrell (Linda), Neon, Kentucky; two daughters, Brenda Bevins, Jenkins, Kentucky, and Betty York (Ernie), of Pineville, Kentucky; twenty-seven grandchildren; sixty-two great-grandchildren; forty-seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Icebee Cantrell, Haymond, Kentucky, and Nola Holcomb, ofMuncie, Indiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ruth M. Raper, age 86, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Sunday January 15, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. She was born onJuly 15, 1925, at Moundsville, West Virginia, and made her home in several different areas before making her home in Letcher County, Kentucky, in 1979. She was a mother and a homemaker, and wasa retired Kentucky state employess, having worked in social services. The wife of Rev. Bernard Raper who served as Pastor of the Neon First Church of God for twelve years, she was very involvedin the church and touched the lives of many people. Ruth played the piano, served as Sunday School teacher, and helped in any way that she could with the church. She was given recognitionby the state association of the First Church of God for her dedicated work in the church and was awarded a lifetime membership. She was a member of the Neon Lions Club for over twenty-fiveyears, and was also a member of the Boone Fork Senior Citizens and the Pine Mountain Co-Op.
She was the daughter of the late John Andrew Williams & Lillian Pollin Williams, and was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Harold Williams.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Re. Bernard Raper, Neon, Kentucky; two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin Lee Raper and wife Linda, of Neon, Kentucky, and TimothyJohn Raper and wife Donna, of Mount Sterling, Kentucky; a brother, Ralph Williams, of Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Steven Lee Sexton, age 53, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, passed away Friday evening January 20, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He wasborn at Payne Gap, Kentucky, on April 14, 1958, and lived his whole life in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was a heavy equipment operator, working in strip mining. Steven loved to hunt andfish and work flea markets, but his favorite past-time was riding his Harley Davisdon motorcycle. He attended the Haymond Freewill Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Roddy Sexton & Clara Sue Whitaker Sexton, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Sexton; two brothers, Roddy Sexton, Jr., and James Ricky Sexton; and a niece, Tammy Gaye Sexton.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Tackett Sexton, Payne Gap, Kentucky; a daughter, Melody Stephens, Dalton, Georgia; two step-sons, Glen Taylor and Christopher Robert Taylor, bothof Jenkins, Kentucky; a step-daughter, Denise Taylor, also of Jenkins, Kentucky; two grandchildren and several step-grandchildren; a sister, Rhonda Polly (Thomas), of Payne Gap,Kentucky; a niece, Madison Brooke Polly; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Muncy Huff, age 53, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday evening January 24, 2012, at his home. He was born on December 4, 1958, at Appalachia, Virginia, was raised there,and then came to Letcher County, Kentucky, where he lived most of his life. He worked for the Kentucky Division of Forestry as a fire fighter. He enjoyed riding four wheelers in his spare time. Muncy was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Huff; and two brothers, A.P. Huff and Randall Huff.
Survivors include his wife, Roxanne McFall Huff, of Neon; his mother, Easter Dixon Huff, of Neon; four sisters, Virgia Mae Sturgill, Kings Creek, Alice Faye Burke, of Big Cowan, Lois Smith, of Sand Lick, and Macy Bowlen, of Floyd County, Kentucky; five brothers, Truman Huff, of Big Cowan, Darrell Huff, of Neon, Archie Huff and Maynard Huff, both ofBig Cowan, and Roy Lee Huff, of Neon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eddie Wayne Fields, age 43, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Thursday February 2, 2012, at his home. He was born on December 19, 1968, at Whitesburg, Kentucky, and was alifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. He was a former employee of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Norton, Virginia. Eddie loved guns and outdoor activities like riding four wheelersand fishing. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Dean Fields, and an infant sister, Patricia Ann Fields.
Survivors include his mother, Joann Hall Fields, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; a daughter, Kayla Fields, of Shelby Gap, Kentucky; three sisters, Karen Young, Jenkins, Kentucky, TinaDavis and Angie Back, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jesse Grover Burke, age 58, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Friday February 10, 2012, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee. He was born onFebruary 15, 1953, at Etty, Kentucky, to Hatton & Marie Bentley Burke. He went to Fleming-Neon High School before he entered the United States Army. He had twenty-three years ofservice before retiring in 1996. Jesse married Dillie on July 29, 1974, and they had three children, Lisa, J.R., and Mikie. He worked his whole life in and around the mines as anelectrician and repairman. Jesse was a huge U.K. basketball fan, and he loved to collect antiques, tell old stories and jokes. He loved to spend time with his family, especially with hisgrandkids, Windy and Taylor. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. Jesse was also a Kentucky Colonel and was of the Church of Christ faith.
In addition to his parents, Hatton & Marie Bentley Burke, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Tompkins.
Survivors include his wife of nearly thirty-eight years, Dillie Burke, McRoberts, KY; a daughter, Lisa Burke, McRoberts, KY; two sons, Mikie Burke and J.R. Burke, both of McRoberts,KY; two grandchildren, Windy and Taylor; a sister, Nancy R. Mary Elizabeth Tolliver, age 79, of McRoberts,Kentucky, passed away Tuesday February 14, 2012, at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home, Whitesburg, Kentucky. She was born on December 11, 1932, at McRoberts, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident ofMcRoberts. She was a mother and a homemaker, and had worked briefly as a substitute school teacher. For sixty-seven years, she was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith, and worked as youth directorin the church. In earlier years, she was very active in the local PTA.
She was a daughter of the late Porter & Bertha Webb Brewer,and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Craft; a son, James Bruce Tolliver; a granddaughter, Brandy Craft; four sisters, Lillian Brown, Louise Sayers, Dorothy Brown, and an infantsister, Goldie Brewer; and six brothers, Oscar Brewer, Harry Brewer, Smith Brewer, Carl Brewer, Daniel Brewer, and David Ishmaiel Brewer.

Virginia Pauline Mason, was born on April 5, 1927, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and entered into Heaven on March 5, 2012. She joined her husband, Otis Mason; foursons, Otis, Jr., Woodie, Pete, and Bill Mason; two sisters, Opal Mason and Dorothy Johnson; and many more family members and friends who are already in Heaven, welcoming her with openarms.

Ada Lee Baker,age 82, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, formerly of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away early Saturday morning, March 10, 2012, at her home. Although she had made her home in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, in recent years, she had lived most of her lifein Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and had been involved in several area businesse’s with her latehusband. For many years, Mrs. Baker was a member of the Burdine Church of God of Prophecy,Burdine, Kentucky, and she attended the Cathedral of Glory at Mt. Sterling.
She was a daughterof the late John & Ethel Anderson Phipps, and was the widow of Verlin Baker. She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
She is survived by adaughter, Glenda Richardson, Mt. Reuben Potter, age 81, of Jackhorn, Kentucky,passed away Monday March 12, 2012, at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on May 12, 1930, at Jackhorn, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County,Kentucky. He worked for many years as a coal miner, and also worked for Letcher County as a bridge crew worker. Mr. Potter was a Kentucky Colonel and was of the Church of Christfaith.
He was a son of the late Isaac Potter & Annie LittlePotter, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lois Potter; and three brothers, Estil Potter, Conley Potter, and Charles Lee Potter.

James Mack “Jimmy” Tucker, age 79, of Neon,Kentucky, son of the late James Walter “Bill” Tucker & Elsie Hall Tucker, passed away Wednesday morning March 21, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on January 5, 1933 at the Fleming Hospital, Fleming, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Neon. He was a graduate of Fleming High School, Class of 1951, and attended EasternKentucky University. Jimmy owned and operated Tucker’s Café for forty years and also worked for National Mine Supply for many years.
Surviving family members include his wife of nearly fifty-fouryears, Janet Young Tucker, Neon, Kentucky; a son, William Tucker and his wife Dana Harden Tucker, Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Nancy Tucker Harbaugh and her husband Dave Harbaugh, of Hollywood,Florida; four grandchildren, Colin and Haley of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lauren and Cameron of Hollywood, Florida; his sister, Nancy Tucker Mullins, of Lapeer, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Lester Youngand his wife Joyce Young, of Laurel, Maryland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that mourn his passing.

Paul Tolliver, age 76, of Jackhorn, Kentucky passed away Friday evening March 23, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.He was born on March 19, 1936, at Jackhorn, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, and just about anything outdoors. He played guitar and had been inseveral musical groups over the years, playing all different kinds of music. He had played basketball years ago in a league at Southeast Coal Company. Paul was a member of the Little Dove Old RegularBaptist Church at Sassafras, Kentucky, since 1984.
He was a son of the late Hillard & Ruth Meade Tolliver, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethyl Lynn Hall Tolliver on February 5, 1992. Other family members thatpreceded him in death were three sisters, Lucille Heath, Flora Ellen Tolliver, and Mildred June Tolliver; and a brother, Quinton Daniel Tolliver.
Survivors include two sons, Robin Paul Tolliver and Mark Paige Tolliver, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; three brothers, R.D. Tolliver, McRoberts, Kentucky, Claude Tolliver, NewLexington, Ohio, and Willis Tolliver, of Deane, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lorena L. Compton, age 82, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday March 31, 2012, at Pikeville, Kentucky. She was born on April 8, 1929, atViareggio, Italy, lived most of her life in Alabama, and lived several years in Pikeville and Jenkins, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and had worked as a department store clerk. She wasof the Catholic faith.
She was a daughter of the late Emilio & Rosa Landi.
She is survived by a son Ronnie (Ellen) Compton, Jenkins, KY; a daughter, Lisa (Ronald) Dykstra, Pompano Beach, FL; a sister, Franca Landi, Viareggio, Italy; a grandson,Jonathan Dykstra; a great-granddaughter, Kirra Dykstra; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Thomas M. “Tommy” Kern, also known as Yoggi Potter Kern, age 53, of Shelby Gap, Kentucky, passed away Sunday April 1, 2012, at his home. He was born on February14, 1959, at Pikeville, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Pike County, Kentucky. He loved working with and riding horses. Tommy enjoyed tinkering with things—taking things apart and puttingthem back together. He also loved hunting, fishing, and UK sports. He was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late James Thomas Kern and Loretta Mullins Kern, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Potter. He was also very close to the late Archie andVera Potter.

Lanna GayleDixon, age 70, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday April 10, 2012, at her home. She was born at Jenkins, Kentucky,onOctober 5, 1941, and lived nearly all of her life in Jenkins. She was a mother and a homemaker, and taught school for thirty-three and a half years, mostly at the Letcher County Vocational School.She graduated from Jenkins High School in 1959 and went to college at Eastern Kentucky University and Morehead State University. Lanna was a member of the NEA, the KEA, and the Delta Kappa GammaSorority. She was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church since she was a child. She served as the church secretary for over forty years and participated in nearly any function that thechurch had. She loved being with and caring for her grandchildren, and she also loved to be in her kitchen cooking and baking.
She was the daughter of the late Columbus EdgarWright & Maxie Mullins Wright.
Lanna is survived by her husband of almostforty-two years, Charles Dixon, Jenkins, Kentucky; a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick Shane Dixon & Lauren, of Henderson, Nevada; three grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, and Dylon; and a host ofother relatives and friends.

Some of the things he enjoyed doing in his life was cooking, camping, hiking, traveling, and spending time with his beloved dog Baby. Paul Michael Ratliff, age 57, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday April 14, 2012, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville,Kentucky. He was born on December 10, 1954, in Letcher County, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County. He had worked as a handyman, and most recently had been a coalminer. His favorite past-times in life were playing with his granddaughter, fishing, and riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He attended Trinity Harvest Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Collins.

He was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, on July 16, 1956, and was a lifelong resident of the Jenkins area.He had worked as a heavy equipment operator in strip mining and other industries. Chris enjoyed life and made many friends. He had coached elementary school football and basketball. He was a big fanof the University of Kentucky sports programs. Bernard Ray Sparks, age 71, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday April 24, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. Hewas born on December 20, 1940, at Letcher County, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of the county. He had worked at various jobs during his life, most recently as a security guard. He was anaccomplished songwriter and poet, and greatly enjoyed fishing and being with his family and friends. Mr. Sparks attended the Neon Church of Christ.
He was a son of the late Clayton &Mary Alice Burke Sparks, and was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sparks, on June 14, 2009. Mrs. Joyce Ann Collins, age 79, passed away Wednesday May 2, 2012, at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, Virginia. She was born on August 3, 1932, in Letcher County, Kentucky, andwas a lifelong resident of the county. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a retired school teacher. Having taught thirty-two years for the Jenkins Independent School District, shetouched the lives of many people. Her daughters described her as the best mother and grandmother in the world, and she closely followed the lives of her children and grandchildren. Betty SueGreer, age 83, passed away Saturday May 5, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. She wasborn on October 15, 1928, at Benham, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in the Jenkins & Burdine, Kentucky, area. She was a mother and a homemaker, and worked for many years at the formerJenkins Community Hospital, and retired from Hardee’s restaurant in Jenkins. Mrs. Greer greatly enjoyed cooking, and loved playing bingo. She also really enjoyed being with people, which made herworking years very enjoyable for her. She was a member of the Jenkins First Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of thelate Henry Clay Hall & Mildred Cannon Hall, and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Joyce Hall and Doris Saade; and a brother, Henry Hall, Jr.

Mr. W. Cline Greer, age 89, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday June 6, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg,Kentucky. He was born on September 27, 1922, at Myra, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Burdine, Kentucky. He was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.He was a United States Army Veteran, and was a member of the American Legion. Cline was a great husband and father, and was a good friend to many people. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishingand searching for dryland fish. He also really enjoyed playing cards and was a big University of Kentucky basketball fan. Cline was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Noah & Belva Johnson Greer. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Betty Sue Hall Greer, on May 5, 2012. Also preceding him indeath was two sisters, Bessie Cable and Irene Hounsell; and a brother, Gene Greer.

She was born on July 30, 1923, at Blackey, Kentucky, and lived nearly all of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and had worked for overfifty years at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and attending bluegrass festivals. Mrs. Baker was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of thelate John & Ellen Morgan Sizemore, and was preceded in death last July by her husband, Kenneth Baker. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, John Michael Baker; and a sister, LeatriceGriffin.

Larry Chandis “Chan” Fleming, age 60, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Sunday June 17, 2012. He was born on October 29, 1951, at Neon, Kentucky, and wasa lifelong resident of the Neon area. Chan was a disabled coal miner, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed spending his time four- wheeling in thewoods, riding horses, hunting, operating his rollback truck, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Lonesome Pine Masonic Lodge #887 and the Mountain ShrineClub. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sol Fleming, and a brother, Ricky Fleming.

She was born on March15, 1951, in Letcher County, Kentucky, and left the area in 1970, and lived most of the rest of her life in northern Kentucky, near Cincinatti. She was a mother and a homemaker, and enjoyed growingflowers, sewing, and Facebook. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the lateLillburn & Hannah Taylor, and was also preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

She was born on August 8, 1921, at Shelby Gap, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in LetcherCounty, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church, Burdine, Kentucky.
She was a daughter of thelate Elbert & Callie Bryant. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Craft, on June 1, 2011, and was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Norlene Lowe, age 79, formerly of Burdine, Kentucky, passed from this life on July 28th, 2012 at Hospice House in Sun City Center,Florida. She and her soul mate, Don Webb, moved to Florida 10 years ago to be near her beloved family.
Norlene was the daughter of Jerome Tackett and Stella Crawford Tackett and was born in Dorton, Kentucky, on April 17th 1933. She was preceded in death by her sonPaul Keith Lowe; her mother, Stella Tackett Dotson; her father, Jerome Tackett; two brothers, Remus Tackett and James Tooney Tackett; one sister, Emogene Stanley.
Norlene was the owner of several food establishments. She was loved by many friends in our town and was known for her kindness and generosity. She never turnedanyone away that was hungry, regardless of their ability to pay. She also provided free coffee to the police department.
Norlene is survived by the love of her life, Donald Webb; a daughter, Ginger Gibson; a brother, Edgel Tackett; two grandchildren, Misty Dawn Sampson Guillemette and Clinton PaulGibson; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Keith Sampson and Kameron Daniel Guillemette, all residing in Florida; many nephews and nieces. Everyone knew her and she will be missed by all,especially by her loving family.

Kevin ShawnFleming, age 36, passed away Friday evening, August 10, 2012, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg.Kentucky. He was born on April 21, 1976, at Whitesburg, Kentucky, lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky, and for the last two years, had lived in Fayette County, Kentucky. He wasemployed as a precertification co-ordinator for the University of Kentucky. He had participated in the Relay For Life program in Letcher County, and was an active participant in the R.A. Foundation.Kevin was of the Pentecoastal faith.
He was preceded in death byhis mother, Linda Sue Fleming Toler.

Charles Wayne “Sarge” Sergent, age 65, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday September 4, 2012. He was born onJanuary 16, 1947, at McRoberts, Kentucky, and other than two years that he lived in Michigan, spent his life in Letcher County, Kentucky. He worked for thirty-five years in coal mining as anelectrician, foreman, and repairman. He also taught electrical re-certification to other miners. For the last eleven years, he has worked for the Neon Water Company. Sarge was an avid computer techand enthusiast. He loved to ride his motorcycle, often riding for worthwhile causes, recently riding for autism, foster-children, shoes for children, and others. He enjoyed his trains, and playingguitar, which he often played in church for a number of years. He was a member of the Neon Area Lions Club for eight years.
He was a son of the late John & Ersel Bates Sergent, and was also preceded in death by his wife of thirty-four years, Linda Bentley Sergent; two sisters, Margie Kiser andPhyllis Wyatt; and two brothers, Steve Sergent and Estil Sergent.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Vivian Burke Sergent, of McRoberts; two daughters, Shannon (Arnold) Bentley, of Yoder, Indiana, and Jessica (Breman) Slone, ofHindman, Kentucky; a son, David (Joanna) Sergent, of Humboldt, Tennessee; a grandson, Adam Wayne Bentley; a sister, Linda Cook, og Glasgow, Kentucky; a brother, Arthur Sergent, of Deane, Kentucky; astep-son, Steven Meeks; two step-daughters, Karen Wilder and Susan Fields; nine step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Douglas Lee Sehorne, age 86, of Lexington,Kentucky, formerly of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Sunday September 9, 2012, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born on January 22, 1926, at Fleming,Kentucky, lived most of his life, and had made Lexington, Kentucky his home for about the last nine years. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Philippines during World War II. Hehad worked as a coal miner for thirty-five years, and later spent quite a few years as a cross-country truck driver. He enjoyed golfing and was very talented at home construction work. Mr. Sehorneattended the McRoberts Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a son of the lateBarney & Glenna Sparkman Sehorne, and was also preceded in death by a half-sister; two half-brothers; three step-sisters; and one step-brother.

Wanda Belcher-Hudson, age 60, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Friday September 21, 2012, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. She was born onAugust 28, 1952, at McRoberts, Kentucky, lived away from Letcher County for a number of years, and returned to Letcher County about ten years ago. She was a mother and a homemaker, and worked as aregistered nurse for over twenty-five years. She had been a member of the Neon Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed growing flowers, watching hummingbirds, cooking, and spending time with herfamily.
She was a daughter of the late Clayton & Mary Sparks andArthor & Madolene Belcher, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hudson; two brothers, E.J. Sparks and Bernard Sparks; three sisters, Pearlie Sparks, Verlois Sparks, and ImogeneTackett.

She was born in Jackhorn on June 25th 1932, the daughter of the late Gad Johnson(Wilma) and the late Anna Leona Perry Cornett. Carol Lee was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was baptized in to the Church of Christ at the age of 14.

Roger Wayne Johnson “Blues Man”, age 57, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday November 5, 2012. He was known for playing country music and blues music. He lived life to thefullest and never took a breath of life for granted. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

She was a daughter of the late FrankEdward Kelly & Hylma Hendrix Kelly, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Carole Wiseman.
Survivors include her husband, DavidRobert Graff, Lexington, Kentucky; a daughter Christa Hurst, Lexington, Kentucky; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Lynn (Wendy) Wright, Paris, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Luke, Alex, Bonnie,Kayla, Marissa, Aubrey, Kaylynn, and Kiley; two sisters, Edna Wright, Greensboro, North Carolina, and Judy Howell, of St. Louis, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Monday December 10,2012, from 6-9 pm at Polly & Craft Funeral Home, Jenkins, Kentucky. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bennie McCall,officiating. Interment will follow at the Kelly Cemetery. Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers.
Donnie “Duck” Hodges, age 64, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, passed away Monday December 10, 2012, at his home. He was born on August 2, 1948, at Jenkins,Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of the Payne Gap community. He drove trucks for many years, and retired from Bizzack Construction Company, where he had been a heavy equipmentoperator. Donnie was a member of the United Steel Workers of America, Local #14581. He greatly enjoyed fishing and camping. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late John Hodges, Sr. & Ruth Nadine Belcher Hodges, and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kelsey Ray Haley; and a sister, NancyHodges.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Johnson Hodges, Payne Gap; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Inez Hodges Breeding & husband Ernie, of Isom, Kentucky, DebraMarcille Hodges Taylor & husband Robbie, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Sandra Donelle Hodges Hayley & husband Jared, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Johnathan,Kayse, Ashley, Brittany, Madison, Kensley, and Emilee; a great-grandson, Jaxon; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise Bevins & husband Rev. Hollis Bevins, Pound, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph Robert Desimone, age 84, ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Thursday December 13, 2012, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. He was born on December 8, 1928, at Jenkins, Kentucky, and was a lifelong residentof Letcher County, Kentucky.He retired from Beth Energy Corporation after thirty-seven years of employment, and was a general mine foreman. He was a United States Army Veteran, servingduring the Korean War. Mr. Desimone was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Jenkins. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He very much enjoyed gardening.
He was a son of the late Vinzenso andAnna DeSidora Desimone, and was also preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Ramond RifeDesimone, of McRoberts, Kentucky; a daughter, Teresa Desimone, Hilton Head, South Carolina; four sons, Gregory Joseph Desimone and Geoffrey Jerome Desimone, both of Lexington, Kentucky, StevenAnthony Desimone and Michael Raymond Desimone, both of Hilton Head, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Nina Jane WrightHobbs, age 87, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Friday December 14, 2012, at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home, Whitesburg, Kentucky.She was born on September 21, 1925, at Eolia, Kentucky, and lived nearly all of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and co-owner with her husband, of Wright’sJewelry Store. She was a member of the Neon First Church of God. She loved quilting and gardening.
She was a daughter of thelate Troy & Mattie Sturgill Engle, and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Wright; her second husband, Charles Hobbs; a daughter, Linda Muncy; a grandson, James Wesley Muncy;a sister, Olga Hampton; and two brothers, Troy Engle, Jr., and Chalmer Engle.
Survivors include adaughter and son-in-law, Frances & Bill Howard, of Lexington, Kentucky; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Sowards, Pound, Virginia, and Jean Hunsuker, Eolia,Kentucky; two brothers, Willie Howard Ingle, Lorain, Ohio, and Charles Ingle, of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be onSunday December 16, 2012, from 4-7 pm, at the Neon First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday evening at 7:00 pm at the church, with Pastor Mark Wagoner, officiating. Intermentwill be at 10:30 am on Monday December 17, 2012, at the Reynold’s Cemetery, Seco, Kentucky. Family and friends may meet at the church by 10:00 am and travel in procession to thecemetery.

Mrs. Peggy RuthSergent, age 81, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away early Monday morning on Monday December 24, 2012, at her home. She was born inJenkins, Kentucky, on June 18, 1931, and lived her life there except for twenty-six years that she lived in Tennessee. She was a mother and a homemaker, and had worked as a lab technician at JenkinsCommunity Hospital and also for a. Mrs. Sergent was a member of the Jenkins Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially growing flowers.
She was a daughter of thelate Frank & Nola Wampler Conley.

James MonroeHawkins, age 71, of Haymond, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday December 26, 2012, at his home. He was born on June 29, 1941, atCrab Orchard, Kentucky, lived most of his life in northern Virginia. And had made his home in Letcher County, Kentucky, for the last fifteen years. Prior to becoming disabled, he had worked as acarpenter. He was a member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Hawkins was a son ofthe late Christopher Columbus Hawkins & Mae Potter Hawkins, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Delphia Floyd and a brother, Jerry Hawkins.
