   Larry “Moses” Rex Newman, age 79, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on December 27, 2015 at WexfordHouse, Kingsport, Tennessee.  He was born on September 8, 1936 in Lexington, Kentucky and lived in Chicago, Arizona, Jenkins and Tennessee.  Moses worked for numerous years inconstruction.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and Navy, with him being stationed in Germany and spent time at other naval ports.  Moses was a member of the American Legion Post#66, Jenkins, Kentucky.  He was of the Baptist Faith.

   He was a son of the late George Newman and Audrey Mae Jenkins Newman.  Moses was also preceded in death by hiswife, Louise Potter Newman; two sons, Arvid “Sam” Newman and Brandon Newman; a sister, Carolyn Newman; and a brother, Jack Newman.

    He is survived by two sons, Larry Newman, Jr., (Shirley), of Hammond, Indiana, and Paul Eric Newman (Kathy), ofClintwood, Virginia; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Newman, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; three brothers, Charlie Newman, of Norton, Virginia, Jimmy Newman, of Jenkins,Kentucky, and Roger Newman, of Aberdeen, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing. 

   Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel,Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Danny Craft officiating.  Interment will follow at Green AcresCemetery, Ermine, Kentucky. 

   Charles McKinley “Mackie” Webb, age 74, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on December 17, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  He was born on November 3, 1941 in Webb Branch, Kona,Kentucky and had made this region his home for the past twenty years.  Charles worked for numerous years as an independent carpenter.  He was of the Christian Faith.

   Charles was a son of the late Marvin R. Webb and Grace Smith Webb McElroy.  He was also preceded in death by ason, Charles Webb, Jr. and a brother, William “Billy” Roy Webb.

   Charles is survived by three daughters, Emily “Charlie” Sammons (Derek), of Neon, Kentucky, Sue Ann Webb, of Westlake,Ohio, and Crystal Rodriguez (Max), of Granite Fall, North Carolina; three sons, William Webb (Jennifer), of North Olmsted, Ohio, Andy Petrella, of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Michael Petrella, ofCleveland, Ohio; twenty-two grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emily Marvilene Webb Smith Quillen, of McRoberts, Kentucky, and Mary “Betty” Webb Blank, of London, Kentucky; abrother, Emmitt McElroy, of McRoberts, Kentucky; his ex-wife and longtime friend, Debbie Petrella, of Madison, Ohio; three nieces; three nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn hispassing.

   Visitation will be held on Friday December 18, 2015 after 6:00 PM at the Neon First Church of God.  Funeralservices will be held on Saturday December 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the church, with Mark Wagoner officiating.  Interment will follow at the Webb Family Cemetery, Mayking,Kentucky.

   Charles Samuel “Sam” DePriest, age 76, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on December 12, 2015 at hishome.  He was born on April 27, 1939 in Burdine, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Sam worked as a coal miner for many years at Bethlehem Steel and atSunglow for several years before he retired.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and spent three years in Hanau, Germany.  Sam was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church,the Jenkins American Legion Post 66 and the United Mine Workers of America.  He greatly enjoyed bluegrass music and worked hard to keep his grandchildren when he could after hisretirement. 

   Sam was a son of the late Carl Roy DePriest and Velva Shook DePriest.  He was also preceded in death by abrother, John Depriest.

   Sam is survived by his wife, Vivian Lowe DePriest, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two sons, Todd Samuel DePriest, of Jenkins,Kentucky, and Donald Clayton DePriest (Catherine), of Jenkins, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Allison, Katie, Jesse and Clay; a sister, Alice Stallard (Jim), of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, JackDePriest (Audrey), of Bristol, Virginia, and Joe DePriest (Brenda), of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Monday December 14, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 15, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the church, with Joe DePriest officiating.  Interment will follow at Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery, Payne Gap,Kentucky. 

   David Harold Fields, age 60, of Seco, Kentucky, passed away on December 11, 2015 at his home. He was born on February 14, 1955 in West Virginia and had lived most of his life in Seco, Kentucky.  David had worked for numerous years as a rock truck operator.  He greatly enjoyed rabbithunting, camping and getting to spend time with children and grandchildren.  David was of the Baptist Faith.

   He was a son of the late Marshall Fields and Sarah Jane Sturgill Fields.  David was also preceded in death by abrother, Samuel Wayne Fields.

   He is survived by his wife, Rose Newsome Fields, of Seco, Kentucky; a daughter, Felisha Childers (Jay), of Seco,Kentucky; three granddaughters, Brittany Fraley, of Isom, Kentucky, Taylor Back and Michelle Sexton, both of Seco, Kentucky; two great-grandsons, Blake and Bryden; a brother, Don Baker, of WeyersCave, Virginia; a special close friend, who he thought of as a daughter, Virginia Sexton, of Seco, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Monday December 14, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel, Neon,Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with William Hall and Danny Quillen officiating.  Interment will follow at WhitakerCemetery, Seco, Kentucky.

   Elizabeth Johanna Peterson Benge, age 89, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, formerly of Seco, Kentucky, passed away on December 5, 2015 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She wasborn on May 1, 1926 in Falls City, Nebraska and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Elizabeth was a housewife, but also worked for many years as a seamstress, providing manyarea individuals and church and school groups the benefits of her expertise in this area.  She was a member of the Methodist Church.  Elizabeth loved doing craft work and had a specialpassion and talent for quilting, needlepointing and scrapbooking.  She was a childcare provider for several area families over the years and dearly loved the children that she cared for and shemaintained contact with many of them until the end.  Elizabeth greatly enjoyed reading and was an avid reader of Ann Rule books and the Mountain Eagle.  Her biggest pride was her family andtheir accomplishments.  Elizabeth loved to take and collect photos, create albums and maintain the family photography archives.

   She was a daughter of the late Willis John Peterson and Clara Elsie Winkler Peterson.  Elizabeth was alsopreceded in death by her husband, Roy Benge, and four brothers, Willis J. Peterson, Jr., Keith Peterson, Robert Peterson and Richard Lee Peterson.

   She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Jo Benge Sexton, and her companion, Robert David Seth, of Willow Wood, Ohio;three sons, Roy Earl Benge (Deborah), of Seco, Kentucky, Gary L. Benge (Sharon), of Ashland, Kentucky, and Kevin E. Benge (Debbie), of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; twentygreat-grandchildren; a brother, David Dean Peterson, of California; and a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

   Visitation will be held on Monday December 7, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Carty Funeral Homes Neon Chapel, Neon,Kentucky.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Leonard Lowery officiating.  Interment will follow at Whitaker Cemetery, Whitaker, Kentucky. 

   Paul Dean Kiser, 65 ofBowling Green, Ohio, passed away at his home peacefully on November 20^th 2015. Paul was born September 25, 1950 to John Paul Kiser and Pearl (Clifton) Kiser in Thorton Kentucky.  Hegrew up in the Letcher County area.    

   Paul was happiest surrounded by his family and grandchildren whom he loved dearly.  Paul was an entrepreneurhaving two of his own businesses called Paul’s Office machine and repair  and Universal Services and associates.  He also enjoyed working on various remodeling projects, working on cars aswell as working at Chrysler in Rossford Ohio before retiring. Paul always had a kind word and never met a stranger. Paul took pride in being a UK and Steelers fan. Paul was always happy to lend ahelping hand and give advice at the drop of a pin.

   As a U.S Army Veteran in the 25^th Infantry Division he served during Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War as anair defense artillery /quartermaster and a heavy equipment operator in transportation. He took great delight in sharing his stories from serving his country and the places he was stationedat.

   He is survived by his former wife, Grace (Burke) Gullett whom he had two daughters, Veronica  Ramos of BowingGreen Ohio, and grandchildren Marissa and Morgan Ramos. Youngest daughter, Angela Kiser Crawford of Dalzell, South Carolina, grandchildren Ashli, John, and Justin. A son Rick Herrera of PontiacMichigan and grandchildren Rickael, Brooke and Justin.  Brothers and sisters, Larry Kiser, Teresa Kiser, Kathy (Kiser) Bolling, Johnny Kiser, Jerome (Tonto) Kiser, Jonathan (Gumby) Kiser andLisa (Kiser) Carrier and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Later marrying Kimberly Sandidge of Castlewood, Va with 3 step children and 7 step grandchildren.

   He is preceded in death by his father John Paul Kiser, mother Pearl Kiser, sisters Roberta Bentley and Aloma (Peco)Kiser and grandchild Krystlyn Dean Ramos

   Visitation will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Carty Funeral Homes Polly & CraftChapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Van Webb officiating.  Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Mayking, Kentucky.

   Burton Stacey, SR. 86, of Dorton KY, beloved son of the late John D.Stacey JR., passed away on November 21, 2015 in his sleep at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, located in the beautiful mountains of Hazard, Kentucky; this center was founded with the mission ofproviding medical assistance specifically to the local people that answered the call of service and served in the United States Military. He was a veteran of the United States Army, with himenlisting to serve his country in 1946.  Burton was highly skilled in the manufacturing of machinery and also was a professional welder.  Before he settled down with his mother and father,he was blessed to have had the opportunity to travel across the United States, which resuled in a vast number of memories being made.  He was of the Christian Faith, having accepted Jesus Christas his Lord and Savior.

   He is preceeded in death by two sisters, Nola Chaffins and Ruby Layton, and a brother,John D. Stacey JR.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Carol Stacey; his son, Burton Stacey, Jr.; his grandchildren,Polly Chapman, Chase Green, Kaylyn Colwell, Samantha Richardson, and Burton Stacey, III.; by his great-grandchildren, Alex Stacey, Cody Stacey, Scott Bodie, Adam Bodie, and Brianna Simpson; hisgreat-great-grandchild, Joseph McMillin; a brother, Wayne Stacey; a sister, Jackie; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2015 from 11:00AM-1:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  All are encouraged to share their memories with Burton.  Funeral services will follow and begin at 1:00 PM,with Jim Slus, from Bluegrass Hospice, officiating.

   The family would like to extend many thanks to the Veterans Hospital, Blue Grass Hospicestaff, and Chaplain Slus for the kindness they showed Mr. Stacey.  In addition, his daughter would like to provide special thanks to his brother, John, and family caring for Mr. Stacey for manyyears.

   Billy Ray Collins, age 75, of Seco, Kentucky, passed away on November 24, 2015 at Good SamaritanHospital, Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born on December 22, 1939 in Haymond, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Billy had worked for many years as a janitorfor the Letcher County School Board.  He greatly enjoyed trading horses.  Billy was very honest and was well known for this trait.  He had a passion and talent for story telling. Billy greatly enjoyed getting to spend time with his family and friends.  He was of the Christian Faith.

   He was a son of the late Joe W. Collins and Rena Madden Collins.  Billy was also preceded in death by his wife,Patricia Hart Collins; two sisters, Esther Lucas and Marie B. Moore; and six brothers, Grover Collins, Arthur Collins, Luther Collins, Ernest Banks, Buddy Collins and John H.Collins.

   He is survived by three sons, John Brown, of Seco, Kentucky, Wayne Brown, of Sidney, Ohio, and Deno Brown, of BillMoore Branch, Kentucky; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Barbara Collins, of Franklin, Ohio, and Martha Parsons, of West Union, Ohio; two brothers, Franklin D. Collins, of Berea,Kentucky and Charlie Banks, of Indiana; two nieces, Goldrena Collins and Patricia A. Moore; and a host of other family and friends. 

   Visitation will be held on Friday November 27, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Homes Polly & Craft Chapel,Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with Van Webb officiating.  Interment will follow at Whitaker Cemetery, Seco,Kentucky.

   Anthony Gerald Anderson, age 43, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on November 24, 2015 at hishome.  He was born on December 23, 1971 in Bluefield, West Virginia and had lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Anthony had worked for many years as an equipmentoperator.  He dearly loved his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.  Anthony greatly enjoyed hunting.  He was of the Christian Faith. 

   He was a son of the late Leonard Gerald Anderson and Brenda Carol Shephard Anderson.  Anthony was also precededin death by his sister, Regina Schultz.

   He is survived by his wife, Donna Anderson, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; two children, Leslie Samantha Sturgill, of Deane,Kentucky, and Paul Bryon Sturgill, of Jenkins, Kentucky; four grandchildren; three sisters, Vickie Short, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, Cindy Anderson, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Alicia Anderson, ofJackhorn, Kentucky; a brother, Alex Anderson, of Camp Branch, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Janice Goff Adams, age78, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on October 27, 2015 at Mountain View Medical Center, Norton, Virginia.  She was born on July 16, 1937 at Burdine, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident ofLetcher County, Kentucky.  Janice worked for numerous years as a store clerk.  She took great delight in baking for her family and friends and collected cookbooks.  Janice was an avidreader, which she took great pleasure in.  She greatly enjoyed playing card games with her family and friends.  Janice was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Garfield Goff and Mary Belle Mullins Goff.  Janice was also preceded in death byher four brothers, Arville Goff, James Goff, Ovie Gene Goff and Ray Goff.

   She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Adams, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Jeffrey Adams, of Abingdon, Virginia; asister, Annie Goff, of Merritt Island, Florida; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Thursday October 29, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel,Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Friday October 30, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with family members officiating.  Interment will follow at Baker Cemetery, PayneGap, Kentucky. 

   Curtis Ruben Miller, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday October 3, 2015 at hisresidence. A son of the late Roy & Stella Hayes Miller, he was born on February 8, 1943, in Jenkins, Kentucky, making his stay here on earth 72 years, 7months and 24 days.

   Mr. Miller is also preceeded in death by a wife, Faye Sloan Miller; a brother-in-law and sister, Freeman & BarbaraMiller Mullins; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Mullins Miller; a nephew, Ronnie Joe Mullins and a great-niece, Erika Nikole Miller.

   Curtis is survived by a son, Eddie Miller, of Orlando, Florida; a daughter, Debbie Miller, of Neon,Kentucky; two sisters, Mary Hughes (Larry), of Wise, Virginia & Dorothy Miller, of Jenkins, Kentucky; three brothers, Johnny Miller (Rose), of Hamilton, Ohio, Jessie Miller, of Jenkins, Kentucky& Roger Miller (Faye), of Aberdeen, Maryland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Monday October 5, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM, with services beginning at 7:00 PM and on TuesdayOctober 6 from 6:00-9:00 PM, with services beginning at 7:00 PM at Payne Gap Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 7 at 1:00 PM at the church, with JohnnyCollier, Hollis Bevins and Charles Gallion officiating.  Interment will follow at Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery, Payne Gap, Kentucky.

   Can Martin Bentley, Jr., age 85, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on September 14, 2015.  He was born on August 17, 1930 in Neon, Kentucky, with him having lived in Michigan, while working as a lineinspector for the Ford Motor Company and returned to Letcher County, where he made his home after retirement.  Can had a special passion and talent for music, with the ability to play a varietyof instruments, especially piano, and was voted best band member, when he was in high school.  He was an avid picker and greatly enjoyed the opportunity of spending time with children, alongwith other relatives and friends.  Can was very noted for the kindness and generosity that he would show to others.  He was a member of the United Auto Workers, since 1957 and was of thePentecostal Faith.

   Can was a son of the late Dr. Can Martin Bentley, Sr. and Sallie Douglas Bentley.  He was also preceded in deathby two sisters, Doris Evelyn Lawrance and June Douglas Fakon; and an infant brother, Robert Edward Bentley.

   Can is survived by a sister, Addie Rutherford Zook, of Warner Robins, California; a half-sister, Carol Ann Bentley, ofFreeburn, Kentucky; 2 half-brothers, Alan Martin Bentley, of Bethel, Ohio, and Terry Lee Bentley, of Bethel, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Visitation will be held on Friday September 18, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home, Neon, Kentucky. Graveside services will be held on Saturday September 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Owenton Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Owenton, Kentucky.

   Clyde Maggard, Jr.,age 55, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away on September 7, 2015 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on March 21, 1960 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and hadbeen a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Clyde had worked for numerous years as a coal miner.  He greatly enjoyed fishing and was a big fan of the University of Kentuckybasketball and football teams and of NASCAR.  Clyde was of the Pentecostal Faith.

   He is survived by his parents, Clyde J. Maggard and Ruby Banks Maggard; two sisters, Carla Smith, of Neon, Kentucky,and Kim Looney, of Burdine, Kentucky; two brothers, Jeff Maggard, of Dalton, Georgia, and Michael Maggard, of Deane (Loves Branch), Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other familyand friends.

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 9, 2015 after 6:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel, Neon,Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 10 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Willie Lamb and Jeff Slone officiating.  Interment will follow at Jenkins-Payne GapCemetery, Payne Gap, Kentucky.

  Pearl W. Goode, age 93, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on August 24, 2015 at her home.  She was born on September 30, 1921 in Pound, Virginia and had been alifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Pearl was the owner of Neon Electric for over fifty years, with her husband and continued to operate the store after his death, until January2014.  She was an election clerk in Letcher County for over thirty years.  Pearl was a member of the Neon Library Committee and a member of the Letcher County Extension OfficeCommittee.  She was very active within the Neon Homemakers Club.  Pearl was a member of the Neon Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi.  She was a member of the Elkhorn Country Club andgreatly enjoyed golfing, when she was able.  Pearl also greatly enjoyed bowling and played on various women’s leagues for over thirty years.  She was a person who relished getting to spendtime with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   Pearlwas a daughter of the late Ruben Henry Welch, Sr. and Berttie Lee Hubbard Welch.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Goode, II.; two brothers, Ruben Henry Welch, Jr.and Frank T. Welch; a son-in-law, Thomas Urbanic; a sister-in-law, Lavenna Welch; and a niece, Linda Ison

   Pearlis survived by her daughter, Adrienne Urbanic, of Neon, Kentucky; a son, Joseph William Goode, III. (Shearer), of Alpharetta, Georgia; four grandsons; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida MaeAllen, of Neon, Kentucky; a brother, John Welch, of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Welch, of Sidney, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.  

  Visitation will be held on Friday August 28, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the Refuge Church, Neon, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 29 at 11:00 AM at the church, with Dr.Benny Pate officiating.  Interment will follow at the Hogg-Welch Cemetery, Mayking, Kentucky. 

  Linda Lou Marshall, 76, of Norton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday Aug. 22, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.  Linda was born Feb. 17, 1939 tothe late John and Grace Mullins. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Mullins, Nila Taylor and Mary Dingus, and a daughter, Connie Lee Marshall.
   Lindawas a member Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Lonesome Pine Chapter #134 O.E.S. for 43 years and was also a dual member of the Gladeville Chapter #171 O.E.S. for over 10years; Linda was the past worthy matron for both chapters and also served as electa for many years.  She attended West Norton Elementary School and J.J. Kelly HighSchool.

   Lindais survived by her loving husband of 60 years Robert Marshall; son Montie and Kim Marshal, of Norton; daughter Angie and Chuck Addington of Norton; grandchildren, Josh and Whitney Marshall of CliftonForge, Shane Phillips of Big Stone Gap, Nikitia and Daniel Boggs of Clintwood, Bryson Marshall and Breann Massie of Wise, Dustin Addington and Clancy Jordan of Blacksburg, Katie Marshall of Radford;great-grandchildren, Taylor Brook Phillips of Florida, Keira Boggs of Clintwood and Carter Marshall of Clifton Forge; sister, Carol and Bill Miracle of Rutledge,, Tenn.; special cousin and friendLoraine Willis of Big Stone Gap; several special nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Over the years Linda was a "Nan" to many.
   Thefamily would like to thank all the special caregivers that helped care for Linda.

   Thelma Hidvegi Litts,age 93, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on August 22, 2015 at her home.  She was born on December 10, 1921 in Beckley, West Virginia and had lived most of her life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Mrs. Litts had obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of Louisville.  She had worked for numerous years as a medical technologist for SharonHeights Hospital and Jenkins Clinic Hospital and later taught at Jenkins High School and worked as a business manager at Dr. George Davidson’s office.  Mrs. Litts was the president of Delta Zetaand was president of the Panhellenic Council at the University of Louisville.  She was a member of the Jenkins Women’s Club and the Elkhorn Country Club.  Mrs. Litts had a strong passionfor politics and was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party.  She was instrumental in the development of the Jenkins Public Library.  Mrs. Litts was married in, baptized by and had beena member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church since 1946.

   She was a daughter of the late Steven Hidvegi and Helen Chisenthall Hidvegi.  Mrs. Litts was also preceded indeath by her husband Raymond C. Litts; her daughter, Carol Anne Litts; five siblings, Helen, Steve, James, Vi and Andy.

   She is survived by her son, Steven Litts, of Jenkins, Kentucky; her dogs, Scooby and Puddy; her cat, Tom; and a hostof other family and friends.         

   Visitation will be held on Monday August 24, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel,Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 25 at 12:00 PM at the Jenkins United Methodist Church, with Rev.    Ellis “Junebug” Hall, Jr., age 57, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on August 19, 2015 at his home.  He was born on March 25, 1958 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and had lived most of his life in LetcherCounty, Kentucky.  Ellis had worked as a mechanic and was of the Christian Faith.

   He was a son of the late Ellis Hall and Faith Ann Elkins Hall.  Ellis was also preceded in death by his wife,Evelyn Darlene Hall; three sisters, Dessie Crews, Bernice Vanover and Gloria Jean Hall; and three brothers, Luther Hall, Carvis Ray Mullins and Jefferey Hall. 

   He is survived by a daughter, Lou Collins (Gary), of Haymond, Kentucky; three sons, Arthur Ray Hall, of Somerset,Kentucky, Michael Hall (Shemeka), of Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Bobby Briggs, of Kona, Kentucky; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Brenda Kay Eldridge (Daniel), of Kona, Kentucky,and Flona Gay Houston, of Kona, Kentucky; two brothers, Jimmy Houston (Crystal), of Neon, Kentucky, and Robert Champion (Angie), of Rockhouse, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host ofother family and friends.

   Nannie Lou Kiser Smith, age 84, passed away on August 12, 2015 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home,Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on July 7, 1931 in Millstone, Kentucky and had made Letcher County, Kentucky her home for most of her life.  Nannie was a member of the Boone ForkCenter, which serves as an outreach program to senior citizens in the region.  She was a homemaker and was of the Christian Faith. 

   She was a daughter of the late Elzie Kiser and Mary Webb Kiser.  Nannie was also preceded in death by three sons,Curtis Eugene Smith, Billy Paul Smith and Michael Smith; two sisters; and a brother. 

   She is survived by three daughters, Phillis Smith Combs (Michael), of Pound, Virginia, Karen Sturgill (Billy), ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, and Debbie Sturgill, of Dalton, Georgia; four sons, Odell Smith, Jr., of Neon, Kentucky, Danny Ray Smith, of Neon, Kentucky, Jimmy Smith (Barbara), of Cleveland, Tennessee, andRodney Smith, of Dalton, Georgia; five sisters, Anna Huffington, of Madison, Indiana, Judy Miles, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Ruby Bell, of Fairborn, Ohio, Marie Sturgill, of Pound, Virginia, and ElsieSexton, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; a brother, Elzie Kiser, Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Glenda Faye Potter,age 74, of Fleming, Kentucky, left this earth to join her Heavenly Father on August 5, 2015 at her home.  She was born on August 3, 1941 in Apex, Kentucky and had been raised in Fleming,Kentucky; after retirement, she returned to Fleming, Kentucky, which she considered to be her home and been living there for the past several years.  Glenda had worked for several years as aclerk for Super America.  She loved her home and to maintain her yard.  Glenda was reborn in the Lord in February of 1996; and she was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church.  She wasa person who greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and getting to spend time with family and friends. 

   She was a daughter of the late John F. Mosgrove and Alta Gibson Mosgrove.  Glenda was also preceded in death by adaughter, Vicki Hanzelka; a son, Julius Maggard; two sisters, Bobbie Goodman and Alma Mosgrove; and four brothers, Jed Mosgrove, Chester Gibson, Oscar Mosgrove and Paul Mosgrove.

   She is survived by her husband, Melvin O. Potter, of Fleming, Kentucky; two sons, Timothy Potter, of Kona, Kentucky,and Jeffery Lee Potter (Charlene), of Cromona, Kentucky; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessie Vlasic, of Prudenville, Michigan, and Nina Koski, of Hoquiam, Washington;two special friends of the family, David Hardin and Angie Hardin, of McRoberts, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

  James Smith, age 75, of Fleming-Neon,Kentucky, passed away on August 4, 2015 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on January 16, 1940 in Fleming, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of LetcherCounty, Kentucky.  He had worked as a watch repairman, who operated a watch repair business from his home.  James never let his cerebral palsy get in the way of enjoyinglife.  He was mobily confined to a wheelchair, but intellectually, he was amazing by keeping up with current news and had read the Bible over and over in his life.  James was agreat prayer warrior.  He enjoyed his favorite Christian artist, Carroll Roberson, having all of his music.  Those who knew James, saw a smiling, sweet and kind man, with a funnylittle laugh.  To know James was to love him.  He was cared for by his elderly mother until her death at which time his dear sister, Mae, took on the role.  James wasalso a well known fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, especially their basketball team.  He was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church.

   He was a son of the late John H. Smith and AmandaBurnett Smith.  James was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Smith, Robert Smith and Albert Smith.

   He is survived by his sister, Mae Tucker, of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky; a nieceDorthy Bentley (Jimmy), of Knoxville, Tennessee; a great nephew, Chris Bentley (Carmen), of Knoxville, Tennessee; a great-great niece, Lauren Bentley, of Knoxville, Tennessee; a great-great nephew,Nicholas Bentley, of Knoxville, Tennessee; a special friend of James and his family, Bill Waddell; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.    

   Graveside services will be held on Thursday August 6, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery, with HaroldVance officiating. 

   Robert “Bob” Dean Mullins, age 52, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away on July 28, 2015 at hishome.  He was born on July 11, 1963 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, he was raised in McRoberts, Kentucky, lived in Alabama and returned to McRoberts after retiring.  Robert had worked as a coalminer and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He greatly enjoyed spending time in Alabama and Florida, where he would find great solace in being out in the water on a boat andfishing.  Robert was well known for his kindness and his love of his community.  He took great pleasure in getting to spend time with his family and friends.  Robert was a member ofthe fraternal organization, the Loyal Order of the Moose, with him having belonged to Moose Lodge #804, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and he was of the Christian Faith.

   He was a son of the late Estill Mullins and Ida Brown Mullins.  Robert was also preceded in death by a sister,Sherry Sexton; and a brother, Sonny Jim Mullins.

   He is survived by his wife, Melanie Mullins, of McRoberts, Kentucky; a son, Robert Bruce Mullins (Laura), ofTuscaloosa, Alabama; two daughters, Mikala Wyatt and Amanda Wyatt, both of McRoberts, Kentucky; two grandsons, James Saylor and Noah Saylor; Bob was looking forward to the future birth of hisgrandson, Samuel Dean Mullins; two sisters, Betty Mullins Kincer, of Danville, Illinois, and Delma Blair, of Jenkins, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Elizabeth Loretta White, age 59, of Millstone, Kentucky, passed away on July 25, 2015 at PikevilleMedical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on December 3, 1955 in Fleming-Neon, Kentucky and had lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Elizabeth had worked as acertified nursing assistant at Letcher Manor for many years.  She attended the Millstone Methodist Church, when her health permitted it.

   She was preceded in death by her father, James Keel; two infant brothers, Jonathan Keel and Patrick Keel; and asister, Alice Dodd.

   Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Dwayne White, of Millstone, Kentucky; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bentley, ofMillstone, Kentucky; a son, Matthew White, of Millstone, Kentucky; her mother, Elizabeth Keel, of Millstone, Kentucky; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Rose Cook, of Kingscreek,Kentucky; a brother, James Keel, of Georgia; and a host of other family and friends.

   Jerry Denzil Miller, age 67, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on July 19, 2015 at the Greg andNoreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on December 18, 1947 in Burdine, Kentucky, where he was raised; he had make Jenkins his home for most of his life.  Jerry hadworked as a coal miner and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, who loved the mountains, hiking,fishing and going to their family cabin on Raven Rock.  He took great enjoyment in spending time with family and friends.  Jerry had been a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church forover forty years. 

   He was a son of the late Fred Miller and Margie Ball Miller.  Jerry was also preceded in death by a sister,Jeanne Hayes; and two brothers, Jim Miller and John Miller.

   He is survived by his wife, Judy Lucas Miller, of Jenkins, Kentucky; four sisters, Judy Marshall (Denver), ofLoveland, Ohio, Janice Kea (Tracy), of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Juanita Ruth (Rodney), of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, and Joan Narramore (Bob), of McRoberts, Kentucky; a brother, Jack Miller(Mary), of Columbia, South Carolina; nieces and nephews, who were dear to Jerry’s heart; and many other relatives and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 21, 2015 after 6:00 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeralservices will be held on Wednesday July 22 at 12:00 PM at the church, with Pastor Wayne Keith officiating.  Interment will follow at the Miller Family Cemetery, Burdine, Kentucky.  In lieuof flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy Association. 

   Bernard “Preacher” Marvin Raper, age 91, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on July 18, 2015 atWhitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on September 14, 1923 in Martinsville, West Virginia.  Bernard had been a past president and lifelong member ofthe Neon Lions Club, had been a member of the Good Sam Club, since 1985 and was a former member of the Neon City Council.  He had a strong dedication to God, with having been a chaplain forAppalachian Regional Hospitals, state chaplain of the Good Sam Club and having been a member of the First Church of God in Neon, where he had pastored for many years. 

   Bernard was a son of the late Ernest Raper and Lydia Martin Raper.  He was also preceded in death by his wife,Ruth Williams Raper; three sisters, Carrie Raper, Mable Raper and Betty Raper; and three brothers, Fred Raper, Eugene Raper and Emmett Raper. 

   Bernard is survived by two sons, Melvin Lee Raper (Linda), of Neon, Kentucky, and Timothy John Raper (Donna), of MountSterling, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; the family of the First Church of God; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

   Virginia Lee Collins,age 90, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on July 16, 2015 at her home.  She was born on March 26, 1925 in Tennessee; she was raised in Jenkins, Kentucky, later moved to Florida and thenreturned home to Jenkins after she retired.  Virginia worked as the Chief Deputy Clerk of the Criminal Court for Hillsboro County, Florida Circuit Court.  She took great enjoyment inwatching the news and staying up to date on civil affairs and current events.  Virginia was always known as a very kind hearted person and it always brought joy to her to help someone howevershe could.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

   Virginia was a daughter of the late William Wade Holtzclaw and Beatrice Mae Osborne Holtzclaw.  She was alsopreceded in death by her husband, Guy H. Collins; a sister, Louise Holtzclaw; two brothers, Cecil E. Holtzclaw and William J. Holtzclaw; and a niece, Ruth Ann Kitchen.

   Virginia is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sammy “Hatch” Hatcher, of Georgia, Gene Marie Holtzclaw, of Georgia,Nancy Muth, of Lexington, Kentucky, Suzanne Gilliam (David), of Charleston, West Virginia, Virginia Lynn Taylor (Greg), of Roanoke, Virginia, Tammy Malone (Kirk), of Tampa, Florida, Gary Lewis(Carol), of Florida, and William Joe Holtzclaw (Deloris), of Champmansville, West Virginia; special caregivers and lifelong friends, Kim Page and Margaret Rudd; and a host of other family and friendsto mourn Virginia’s passing.  The family would also like to thank her other caregivers, Bernedda Polly and Penny Adams.

   Glenna Sue Campbell Nolan, age 63, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on July 10, 2015 at her home.  She was born on November 4, 1951 inFleming, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Glenna had a strong passion for education, with a bachelor’s degree in education from Clinch Valley College, amaster’s degree in education from Moorehead University, a second master’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky and she had been working on her doctorate at the time of herdeath.  She taught kindergarten for over twenty-eight years at Jenkins Independent School District; and was the flagship person to teach kindergarten once Jenkins Independent implementedthe kindergarten program.  Glenna dearly loved her dogs and greatly enjoyed taking her dog, Moose, for car ridges.  She took great pleasure in getting to spend time with herfamily and friends.  Glenna was a member of the Kentucky Education Association, the National Education Association and had been of the Baptist Faith, since November 23,1978. 

   She was a daughter of the late Otis Holmes and Nora Riddle Holmes.  Glenna was also preceded in death by her first husband, FrankCampbell.

   She is survived by her husband, Vincent Nolan, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Calvin Campbell (fiancé, DeAnna Adams), of Jenkins, Kentucky; a sister, EugenaJoseph, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a special niece, Amanda Anderson (Lenny); a special great-niece, Lynsey Anderson; a step-daughter, Susanna Walker (Al), of Millstone, New Jersey; and a host of otherfamily and friends.

  Dale A. "Tony" Wyatt, Sr. passed from this life at his home inBurdine on July 3, 2015. He was 56 years old. Tony was born on February 9, 1959 in Whitesburg and was a 1977 graduate of Jenkins High School. 

   Tony livedmost of his life in Jenkins where he was a city employee. He was a lifelong UK fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his belovedgrandchildren. 

   Tony waspreceded in death by his mother, Eva "Topsy" England Wyatt. He is survived by his father, Earnest "Sam" Wyatt of Whitesburg, three children, Andrea (Frank) Conley of Ashland, Dale A. "Tony" Wyatt,Jr. of Jenkins, Allison Wyatt of Jenkins, and 5 beautiful grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Sindy (Jimmy) Lowe of Pound, VA and a brother, Blake (Debbie) Wyatt of Burdine. Tony will also begreatly missed by a host of friends and family.

   Billy “Boe” Joe Bentley, age 74, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on July 5, 2015 at hishome.  He was born on December 4, 1940 in Etty, Kentucky, and had lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Billy had worked as a coal miner and was a member of the United MineWorkers of America.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who relished his time spent outdoors, which often included hunting, farming and carpentry.  Billy was of the ChristianFaith.

   He was a son of the late Bill Bentley and Bertha Johnson Bentley.  Billy was also preceded in death by a sister,Jacqueline Johnson and a brother, Norwood “Woody” Bentley.

   He is survived by two sisters, Gladys Johnson and Nellia Fleming (Paul), both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; three brothers,Herbert Bentley, Carl Bentley and Robert Lee Bentley (Betty), all of Jackhorn, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  Mary “Sissy” Elizabeth Johnson, age 62, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away onJuly 1, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on December 9, 1952 in Jenkins, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County,Kentucky.  Mary was a homemaker, who greatly enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.  She loved gardening and working with her flowers and she had a big heart foranimals.  Mary was of the Pentecostal Faith. 

   She was a daughter of the late John Litz Puckett and Bertha Mae RatliffPuckett.

   Mary is survived by her husband, Elijah Johnson, of Burdine, Kentucky; two sons, John Johnson(Robin), of Burdine, Kentucky, and Rook Michael Johnson (Colleen), of Payne Gap, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Morgan S. Bentley, John Preston Johnson, II., Austin Kelly Johnson and Dakota MichaelJohnson; a great-grandchild, Frank Vincent Benedetto, III.; two brothers, Jerry Neil Puckett and Roger Dale Puckett, both of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Lahoma Lee Cantrell, age 58, of Neon, Kentucky, and had recently been residing in Whitesburg,Kentucky, passed away on July 1, 2015 at her home.  She was born on December 9, 1956 at Fleming, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Lahoma worked as aclinical psychologist at Buckhorn Children’s Center.  She was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Cornelius Cornett and Mary Lou Cornett.  Lahoma was also preceded in death by herhusband, William Randy Cantrell.

   She is survived by a daughter, Shaunna Everly, her husband, John Everly, of Richmond, Kentucky; a son, Eric Cantrell,with fiancé, Virginia Potter, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Kenedee Everly and Christian Everly; and a host of other family and friends.

 Ronald G. Nelson, Jr., age 59, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, passed away on June 14, 2015 at the Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Wyandotte, Michigan.  He was born onJune 16, 1955 in Fleming, Kentucky and had lived most of his life in Michigan.  Ronald worked as a general overseer for the Ford Motor Company and retired from there after working for overtwenty-seven years.  He greatly enjoyed playing hockey and was an avid baseball fan.  Ronald was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and was a member ofthe United Automobile Workers. 

   He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald G. Nelson.

  Geraldine Fields, age 58, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on June 9,2015 the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. She was born on March 11, 1957 at Haymond, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Geraldine enjoyed caring forher dogs and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith. 

   She was adaughter of the late Clarence and Berniece Brown.  Geraldine was also preceded in death by her husband, Alex Fields and a brother, Roscoe Brown. 

   She issurvived by a daughter, Ginger Richie (Francisco Chipahua), of Jenkins, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Felicia Dingus and Greta Webb, both of Dalton, Georiga; two brothers, Jimmy Brownand Coley Brown, both of Neon, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Cleo Addie Johnson, age 92, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away on June 8, 2015 at her home. She was born on July 28, 1922 in Pineville,Kentucky; she was raised in Neon, Kentucky and had made McRoberts, Kentucky her home for over the last sixty years.  Cleo was a homemaker and was a member of the McRoberts Missionary BaptistChurch for over fifty years.  She enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family, enjoying the fellowship from those times and she also enjoyed growing flowers.

   She was a daughter of the late Albert Davis and Myra Miller Davis.  Cleo was alsopreceded in death by her husband, Herman Johnson; a sister, Grace Weyand; two brothers, Clifford Davis and Clyde Davis.

   She is survived by three daughters, Janie Couch, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Donna Smith (JohnD.), of Burdine, Kentucky, and Pam Johnson (David), of McRoberts, Kentucky; two sons, Herman Ray Johnson (Andrea Lynn), of McRoberts, Kentucky, and Mark Johnson (Cathy), of Jenkins, Kentucky;thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

   Martha Anne Harris, age 76, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on June 4, 2015 at her home.  She was born on October 20, 1938 inSalem, Virginia; she grew up in Virginia and in her adult life had made her home in eastern Kentucky.  Martha had a strong passion for learning, as evidenced by having obtained a bachelor’sdegree in religion from Emory and Henry College, a master’s degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Rank 1 in Learning Disability Education from Morehead State University. She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught for sixteen years in Pike County Schools and for ten years at Jenkins Independent Schools.  Martha greatly enjoyed cooking, quilting, growingherbs, spending time enjoying her cat, Lucky, and playing the piano.  She was a pious person, having been a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school.

   She was a daughter of the late Elmer Edwards and Eura Thomas Edwards.  She waspreceded in death by her husband, Ed Harris; a grandson, Ryan Hawkins; a sister, Lois Adams; and a brother, Posey Edwards.

   She is survived by a daughter, Isannah Lee, of Lexington, Kentucky; a son, Anthony Hawkins,of Ash Camp, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

  Alta Jean Bolling, age 81, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, passed away on June 4, 2015 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital,Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on April 16, 1934 in Payne Gap, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Payne Gap.  Alta worked for numerous years as a nurse at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital and Jenkins Community Hospital.  She was a member of the Payne Gap Freewill Baptist Church.
   She was a daughter of the late Ersel M. McPeek and Lena D. Whitaker McPeek.  Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Vardrey H. Bolling; a son, Tommy Dale Bolling; a brother, Charles Dannie McPeek; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Koch.
   She is survived by a daughter, Lena Darlene Bolling Maxey, of Payne Gap, Kentucky; two sons, Vardrey Lee Bolling, of Indiana, and Baxter Newton Bolling (Sheree), of Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Kaiser Bolling, of Pound, Virginia; a sister, Carol Sperrick, of Florida; four brothers, Clarence McPeek, Kenneth McPeek, both of Michigan,

   Irene “Lorraine” Mae Meade, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday May 20th at her home.  She was born on January 5, 1939 atDeane, Kentucky; making her seventy-six years, four months and fifteens day of age at the time of her passing.  Lorraine spent her life being a loving wife and mother; raising her four childrenand helping in raising her beloved grandchildren.  She dedicated her life to caring for others, with passions of cooking, crocheting and crafting.  Her greatest joys were sharing stories ofher life growing up.  She, along with her many words of wisdom, will be forever cherished and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.    Lorraine was a daughter of the lateBrack and Icy Kincer Quillen.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Donald Shepherd and two brothers, Kimmel and Donnie Quillen.   She is survived by her husband,Daniel Meade, of Deane, Kentucky; six children, Christopher Shepherd (Margaret),  Melissa Howard (Neil), Tony Hall (Kendra), all of Jenkins, Kentucky, Timothy Shepherd (the late Angie), ofStafford, Virginia, Robbie Shepherd, of Kona, Kentucky, and Christen Shepherd, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; five siblings, Kermit Quillen, of Deane, Kentucky, Gene King (Lawton), D.H.   Eugene “Gene” Fleming passed away on

May 14th in his home in Mc Roberts, Kentucky. Genewas the son of the late John and Bessie (Stewart) Fleming. He was born in Etty, Kentucky on Spetember 3rd,1932.

  Gene leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Billie Jean (Little) Fleming, his sons David “Jimbo” Fleming (Linda), SteveFleming, Barry Fleming (Claudette), his daughters Sharon Smallwood (Billy), Freida Fleming, and Shannon Potter, his sister Mable Johnson and brother Willard Fleming (Barb), along with 13grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, to mourn his passing.

  Gene loved his wife and family and he never met a stranger. He loved his antique cars and was aretired

coal miner who adored his job, and he was a UMWA member for 67 years. He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Jan (Banks)Fleming and grandchildren Crissie Fleming, Hayleigh Marie and Harlan Dale

   Orlando Collins, age 97,of Payne Gap, Kentucky passed away Thursday April 23, 2015  at home surrounded by his loving family.

  He was born on August 29, 1917 at Indian Creek,Virginia; the son of the late Elbert & Etsy Schoolcraft Collins

  Mr. Collins was an United States Army WWIIVeteran.

  In addition to his parents, Orlando waspreceded by his wife of 68 years, Jacqueline Collins; one son, Donnie Collins and three brothers, Hassel Collins, Waldo Collins and Olen Collins.

  Mr. Collins is survived by his remaining eightchildren; Jerry, Gene, Sue, Tommy, Bobby, Jill, Ronny and Lesa; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

  Mary Jane Anderson, age 69, of Shelby Gap,Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2015 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on September 22, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; she had spent her youngeryears in Floyd County, Kentucky, and after her marriage, she had made her home in Pike County, Kentucky. Mary was a homemaker and attended the Great I amChurch.  

    She was a daughter of the late William Arch Bailey and Beverly Jane Clark Bailey.  Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gale Anderson and a son, William Todd Bailey.

    She is survived by her son, Craig Bailey (Kim), of Jenkins, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Bailey, Todd Allen Bailey, Crystal Marie Bailey, Ashley Jewell Bailey andHunter Keith Bailey; a brother, William Timothy Bailey, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of other family and friends.

   Sharon Gail Henson, age 50, of Jenkins,Kentucky, passed away on Thursday March 26, 2015 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on December 18, 1964 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and had madeLetcher County, Kentucky, her home for the last thirty years.  Sharon enjoyed cooking and baking with her mother, she had a passion for art and very dearly loved her twosons.  Sharon possessed a very kind and soft heart for animals.  She was a homemaker and attended the Peoples Fundamental Baptist Church. 

    Sharon waspreceded in death by her father, James Henson, and her step-father, Harold Bentley.

   She issurvived by two sons, Steven O’Brien (Joanna), of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Cody Bowens, of Jenkins, Kentucky; her mother, Margaret Bentley, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, Freddie Mullins, ofTazewell, Virginia, and Lloyd Pigg, of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Catherine (Jones) Davis, 92, widow of Lonnie Davis who preceded her in death in March of 1987, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 23, 2015.

   Born November 28, 1922 in Uniontown, Alabama, Catherine was the oldest daughter of the late Rev. Rogerand Estella Jones. Sister of Roselee Swain, Clair Phelps, Robert Jones and Louise Jones.

   Brought up in the word of Christ, Catherine was a devoted member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and MountZion 205 in Jenkins Kentucky before moving to Lexington and joining her daughters at Bethsaida Baptist Church.

      In 1941, she met and married her spiritual partner in Christ, Lonnie Davis ofSunflower, Mississippi. Together they loving leave behind Archie, LaVerta (Vernon Matthews), Doris, Dorothy (John Barnes), Lonnie Jean (Voight Hunter), Estella and Robert (Carol McIntosh). She wasblessed with 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

   Though quiet in nature, Catherine’s sense of humor and loving spirit attracted many to her home and theneighborhood children frequently was provided her straight forward counsel . Her godly wisdom made her a favorite among family and friends seeking a kind word. Catherine Davis will be missed by allwho loved her and whose lives she touched.

   Visitation will be held on March 31, 2015 at the Bethsaida Baptist Church, Lexington, Kentucky, from11:00 AM-12:00 PM.  Funeral services will follow, with Rev. Bishop Carter III. officiating.  A graveside service will be held on April 1, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Green Acres Cemetery, Ermine,Kentucky. 

   Grayson “Fuzzy” Tackett, age 70, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday March 24, 2015 at Greenview Regional Hospital, Bowling Green, Kentucky, due to complications from diabetes.  Hewas born on December 19, 1944 in Jenkins, Kentucky.  Mr. Tackett obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University.  He had very sharp businessskills, with one example being that he won best salesman at the Case Equipment Dealership.  Mr. Tackett had worked in construction for many years and had the distinction of obtaining the rank ofMaster Plumber.  He was born with handicaps, but had the will and determination to not allow this to dictate his life, such as learning how to type with one hand, and this immense willpower hasserved as an inspiration to family and friends.   Mr. Tackett greatly enjoyed hunting, especially rabbits and squirrels, travelling, particularly out west, and watching the University ofKentucky basketball team.  He was a person that always wanted to help others and was of the Christian Faith.

   He is a son of the late Frank Harvey Tackett and Leitha Ray Tackett.  Mr. Tackett was also preceded in death by five siblings, Lexie Ambrose, Grant Tackett,Billy Tackett, Donald “Arnold” Ray Tackett, Thurman “Jay Bird” McKinley Tackett and Patricia Lou Persinger; and an infant brother, Harvey Tackett.

   He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Tackett, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sons, Brian Tackett (Robbie), of Troy Montana, and Tyrone Tackett, of Dade City,Florida; six grandchildren, Grayson Tackett, Greta Tackett, Grace Tackett, Tucker Tackett, Ava Tackett and Titus Tackett; five siblings, Dorsey Smallwood, of Lexington, Kentucky, Selena Sue Gilbert,of London, Kentucky, Mary Nell Frasier, of Marion, Ohio, Jack Tackett, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and James “Chum” F.    Jerry Wayne Hall, age 60, of Neon, Kentucky passedaway Friday March 20, 2015 at his home.  He was born on March 26, 1954 at Neon, Kentucky and had lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Hall owned and operated amedical supply business for many years.  He served his community as a volunteer at the Neon Volunteer Fire and Rescue for over thirty years and also had the distinction of serving on theboard of directors for the organization.  Mr. Hall was an avid fisherman and hunter and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

   He was a son of the late Everett Hall and Sarah GibsonHall.  Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Sue Griffith and Brenda Sue Smith Adams.

   He is survived by a son, Brandon Hall (Stephanie), of Haymond,Kentucky; two grandchildren, Shelby Hall and Destiny Hall, both of Haymond, Kentucky; three brothers, Ronnie Griffith, of Convington, Georgia, Bobby Hall, of Littleton, Colorado, and Steve Hall, ofCordyn, Indiana; and a host of other family and friends.

   Teddy Dwayne Brown, age 36, of Clintwood, Virginia passed away Saturday March 14, 2015 in Clintwood, Virginia.  He was born on March23, 1978 at Whitesburg, Kentucky and had lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Brown worked in carpentry and was of the Pentecostal Faith.

   He ispreceded in death by a baby brother, Joey Ray Brown; his maternal grandmother, Justine Williams; and his paternal grandparents, John Brown and Pauline Brown.

   Survivors include his wife, Billiam Brown, of Peebles, Ohio; two children, Dewayne Brown and Vella Brown; his parents, Joe Martin Brown and Linda Carol Brown, ofNeon, Kentucky; two brothers, Michael Brown (Linda Sue), of Whitesburg, Kentucky, and Benjamin Patrick Brown (Doreena), of Resaca, Georgia; two sisters, Diana Carol Barron (Kenneth Jody), ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, and Justinia Lynn Neace (Brian Keith), of Neon, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Minerva Blevins, age 92, of Andersonville, Tennessee passed away Wednesday March 11, 2015 at the FortSanders Regional Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee.  She born on December 13, 1922 at Beefhide, Ky.  Minerva was a mother and a homemaker.  She was a member of the HolinessChurch.

   She was a daughter of the late William Stewart and Delia Mullins Stewart.  Minerva was also preceded in death bya brother, Kernie Stewart, and a sister, Bertha Stewart

      Helen York Sexton, age 88, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky. She was born on February 19, 1927 in Marion Virginia and had lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She greatly enjoyed being a mother and spending time with her family andfriends.  Helen was a homemaker and was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Ruben Augustus York and Virginia Lee Sanders York.  Helen was alsopreceded in death by her husband, Leroy Sexton; two sons, David Augustus and Bucky Hipps; a brother, Ralph York; and a sister, Edna Smith.

   Joseph Mike Johnson, age 75, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on February 22, 2015 at his home.  He was born on January 8, 1941 at Etty, Kentucky.  He made his home in Letcher County forover 70 years.   Mr. Johnson was a small town independent business owner for more than 54 years in the city of Neon, Kentucky.

   He was a son of the late Jacob Johnson and Fran Simone Riddle Johnson.  Mr. Johnson was alsopreceded in death by three brothers; Challie Johnson, William Danny Johnson and Scotty Johnson.    

   He is survived his wife, Deloris “P’Jib” Duncan Johnson, Jackhorn, Kentucky; one brother, Jacob PatrickJohnson, Jr., Jackhorn, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Fred Thomas Davis entered into eternal rest Saturday, February 14, 2015,at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  Fred was a son of the late A.C. and Grace Davis.  He was born November 26, 1927, in Coeburn, Virginia.  He was a United States NavyWorld War II veteran.
   Fred lived most of his adult life in Jenkins, Kentucky.  He was an employee of Champion Stores, Pet Dairy, retired as a heavy equipment operator from Beth Elkhorn and worked as aFuneral Director Assistant at Polly and Craft Funeral Home for over twenty years.  He was a UMWA member and a Kentucky Colonel.  Fred was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed being withfamily and friends.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a delight for him.
  In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Taylor Davis, three sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter.
   Survivors include one daughter, Katherine (Paul) Thompson, of Jenkins, Kentucky; one son, Tommy (Karen) Davis, of Lexington, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Chad (Caroline Calcote) Davis,of St. Petersburg, Florida, Brian (fiancé, Leigh Ann Jordan), of Lexington, Kentucky, and Shellie Thompson, of Lexington, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Cal Davis, Mack Davis, both of St.Petersburg, Florida, Grace Davis and Hope Davis, both of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

    Visitation will be held on Friday February 20, 2015 from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM at CartyFuneral Homes Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Danny Mullins officiating.  Entombment at Green Acres, Ermine, Kentucky, will beheld at a later date.

      AnnaL. Davis went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2015 at the Greg and NoreenWells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  Anna was a daughter of the late Gib and Alpha Taylor born August 15, 1928.  She was born in Dunham, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of LetcherCounty, Kentucky.   

   Anna was a wife, mother and homemaker.  She was a member of the DunhamFreewill Baptist Church for over 60 years and at the time of her death was the oldest member.  She was an employee of Jenkins Clinic, working in the kitchen. Anna loved attending church, familyevents and visiting with friends.   

   She was preceded in death by her parents, sisterand a granddaughter.  

   Survivors include her husband, Fred Davis, ofJenkins, Kentucky; one daughter, Katherine (Paul) Thompson, of Jenkins, Kentucky; one son, Tommy (Karen) Davis, of Lexington, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Chad (Caroline Calcote) Davis, of St.Petersburg, Florida, Brian (fiancé, Leigh Ann Jordan), of Lexington, Kentucky, and Shellie Thompson, of Lexington, Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Cal Davis, Mack Davis, both of St. Petersburg,Florida, Grace Davis and Hope Davis, both of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Pauline Marie (Isabell) Cantrell, betterknown as Icebee, went to Heaven on January 20, 2015 at the age of 105 years and 2 months. Icebee passed at Letcher Manor in Whitesburg, KY, where she had been a resident for the past few months. Shewas of Cherokee descent and born on November 20, 1909 in Rockwood, TN.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Atchie Ono, 3 sons, Harlold Rutherford, Jack Delano, and Joseph Kenneth (Kenny)Cantrell, and one daughter, Thelma Ruth Anderson.  She is survived by 2 daughters, Regina Carol Carmony(Jesse) of Hopewell, VA and Alice Faye Jowers(Frank) of Hanahan, SC.,12 grandchildren, 14great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren, Connie Mullins a close friend and caregiver, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  Before marriage, Icebee worked in Chattanooga, TN,in a hosiery mill.  Later she performed domestic duties for people in the community to help support her family due to the chronic illness of her husband.  She was a hard worker and nevershirked her responsibilities. She witnessed the span of changes in society, technology, and life in general that most people will never experience.  Her life was a patchwork of hardship, sorrow,joy, and blessings.

   In her senior years she was active in the Ben Caudill SCVCamp with her son, Kenny.  She was the belle of the camp at reenactments and stone dedications when she arrived in her Confederate dress.  She was named an Honorary Member of the BenCaudill  #1629 SCV Camp as well as Matron of Honor and Lifetime Achievement Award.   Other honors she received were being named an Honorary Deptuy Sherrif by the Letcher CountySherrif’s Department and Letcher County Fiscal Court proclaimed October 3, 2009, “Pauline Icebee Cantrell Day.  She loved God and her family and was an inspiration of determination to all whoknew her or heard of her.  She will be sorely missed by her family and friends on earth but, oh what a homecoming was had when she arrived in Heaven!

   Visitation will be held on Thursday January 22, 2015 from6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel, Neon, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Friday January 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Wendall Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Whitaker Cemetery, Seco, Kentucky. 

   Ruby Nell Combs Collins, age 74, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center,Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on August 18, 1940 at Whitesburg, Kentucky and had lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ruby had worked as a nurse for over fortyyears.  She enjoyed bluegrass music, attending bluegrass performances, touring with Seals Tours, travelling and spending time with family and friends.  Ruby was a member of the PineMountain Chapter #247 O.E.S., Jenkins, Kentucky; she was a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church and had attended the Jenkins Methodist Church.

   She was a daughter of the late John Stidham and Rosa Mae Whitaker Stidham.  Ruby wasalso preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Combs; two sisters, Kathleen Edwards and Lucille Holbrook; and two brothers, George Stidham and John Stidham, Jr.

   She is survived by her husband, Hiram Collins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; four daughters, YanaPannell, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Sandra Combs, of Georgetown, Kentucky, and her fiancé, Dr. Ugwuala Nwauche, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Melissa Cummings, and her husband, Lucas, of Georgetown,Kentucky, and Amy Mullins, of Stamping Ground, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

   Noll Davis, Sr., age 96, of Dunham, Kentucky, passed away on Friday January 16, 2015 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was bornon May 18, 1918 at Roda, Virginia and had lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Davis

had worked for forty-twoyears as a coal miner for Clinchfield Coal Company, Bethlehem Steel and Consol Energy and retired as an assistant superintendent at Mine 26.  He joined the Masonic Order in 1971, thus being amember for over forty-three years; he was a member of Jenkins Masonic Lodge #856, the York Rite Jenkins Chapter 164, P.S. Wheeler Council #99 and Pikeville Commandry #45.  Mr. Davis was an avidpool player; he enjoyed playing his guitar and mandolin, target shooting and loved to picnic with family and friends.  He was a member of the Peoples Baptist Church and was a KentuckyColonel.

   He was a sonof the late Arnolldus Davis and Julia Ann Collinsworth Davis.  Mr. Davis was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Thompkins Davis; three children, Nilean Davis, Ernest Ray Davis and NollDavis; three grandchildren, Crystal Davis, George Earl Davis and Dewayne Davis; four sisters, Eva Turnmyre, Kate Smith, Pearl Cummins and Sarah McCowan; and three brothers, Jim Davis, Haskell Davisand

      Curtis EugeneSmith, age 60, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at the Greg & Noreen WellsHospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on July 26, 1954 in Letcher County, Kentucky and had lived most of his life in Letcher County.  Mr. Smith had worked for numerous years as ahandyman for the Letcher County community.  He was of the Christian Faith.

   Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Smith; hisfather, Odell Smith; and a brother, Billy Paul Smith.

   VernonHall, age 72, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday January 11, 2015 at his home.  He was born onMay 25, 1942 at McRoberts, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Hall was a veteran of the United States Army.  In 1967, he married Shelby Jean Isaac andfrom that union, one son, Rodney, was born.  He dedicated a great deal of his life to assisting the people of eastern Kentucky in numerous roles.  He served as a deputy to Letcher CountyJailor Ben A. Adams, a deputy to Letcher County Sheriff Maynard Hogg, a deputy to Letcher County Sheriff Lewis Hall, Chief of Police of Jenkins, Kentucky and Chief of Police of Neon, Kentucky. Mr. Hall decided to enter in to politics and was elected Jailor of Letcher County for a four year term, then was elected Sheriff of Letcher County for a four year term. He then served as a judgepro-tem for Letcher County Judge Ruben Watts.  He then served as director and owner of Mountain Outreach in Pike County and McRoberts, Kentucky; during his tenure, the Outreach Program inJenkins and McRoberts gave out food, clothing, heat pumps and furniture for fifteen years.  Mr. Hall owned and operated the Adult Daycare Center in McRoberts, Kentucky and owned the JenkinsCounty Club.  He was on the Jenkins Christian Radio Station for numerous years, with the owner, Jerry Martin, doing their Sunday Christian program.  Mr. Hall served on the boards of theKentucky River Area Development District the Leslie-Knott-Lethcer-Perry Community Action Agency and others in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  He was elected president to the Jaycees in Neon and was aformer member of the Neon Volunteer Fire Department.  Mr. Hall always extended a helping hand and treated everyone equally; he has left behind a legacy of how a vision can become a reality inextending a loving kind hand. 

   He was a son of the late Orie Hall andZettie Justice Hall.  Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hall and Windell Hall; and a sister, Christine Gibson.

   He is survived by his wife, Shelby JeanHall; a son, Rodney Hall (Monica), of Lexington, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Malorie Hall, of Lexington, Kentucky; a brother, Jimmy Hall, of McRoberts, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a hostof other family and friends.

      Eunice Marie MaggardWebb, age 90, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday January 11, 2015 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on July 25, 1924 at Pound, Virginia,and had made Letcher County, Kentucky her home for the past seventy-six years.  Eunice had worked at P & Q Department Store in Neon for thirty-eight years.  She was a cancer survivorfor thirty years.  Eunice had given her heart to Jesus since childhood; she was baptized in the 1950’s at Mount Zion Regular Baptist Church in Pound, Virginia and later attended Stevens ChapelChurch in Glamorgan, Virginia.

   She was a daughter of the late Elbert andMary Short Maggard.  Eunice was also preceded in death by her husband, George Ellis Webb; two sons, George Ellis Webb, Jr., and Miles Henry Webb; two daughters, Arlena Wilson and EunicellWatkins; a granddaughter, Tanya Watkins; a grandson, Willie Carl Webb, Jr.; two sisters, Cassie Irene Harris and Pauline Williams; and seven brothers, Archie Arlie Webb, Cecil Webb, Carl Webb, FreddyWayne Webb, Willis Burnis Webb, Vollie Webb and Elmer Webb.

   She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Webb Yates, of Pembroke, Kentucky; a son, Willie Carl Webb, of Webb Branch,Kentucky; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-four great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Eb Wright, of Neon, Kentucky, and Shirley Lucas, of Smooth Creek,Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

      Robert “R.B.” BroseHall, age 93, of Fleming, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday January 7, 2015 at the Greg & Noreen WellsHospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on December 5, 1921 at Quillen Fork, Kentucky and was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Hall had made Cleveland, Ohio his home, whileworking as a line worker for General Motors, then after retiring he returned to Letcher County and had made this his home for the last forty years.  He was an avid coon hunter and enjoyedworking on coal trucks with his son, Ronald.  Mr. Hall was baptized on October 26, 2008 at the McRoberts Church of Christ and was of the Church of Christ Faith.

    He was a son of the late Solie“Bowdy” Hall and Allie Jane Reynolds Hall.  Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by his wife, Verna Collier Hall; a son, Robert W. Hall; a granddaughter, Tina Keith; a grandson, Robert Lee Hall;four sisters, Roda Baker, Rosa Gilliam, Lilly Buchanan and Vicco Richardson; and four brothers, Ben Hall, Sol Hall, Grosie Hall and William Buddy Hall.

   He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Clingan, of Cleveland, Tennessee; a son, Ronald Hall (Lora), of McRoberts,Kentucky; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren, including Jayden Potter, who was very close with Mr. Hall and had given Jayden the nickname, “Little Man”; one great-great-grandchild; asister, Elsie Meade, of Rock House, Kentucky; a brother, Richard Hall, of Georgia; a close and special friend, Hargis “Lucky” Fulton; and a host of other family and friends.

      Grover Edward BarkerSr., age 72, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday January 4, 2015 at his home.  He was born onOctober 10, 1942 at Glomar, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Jenkins, Kentucky.  Mr. Barker had worked for numerous years as a utility worker for Adams Stone.  He greatly enjoyedwatching NASCAR and the University of Kentucky basketball team; and was a nature enthusiast, who took pleasure in spending time outdoors.  Mr. Barker was a member of the United Steel Workers andwas of the Baptist Faith. 

   He was a son of the late Alonzo LloydBarker and Alta Chapman Stewart Barker.  Mr. Barker was also preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Miller and an infant sister; and his step-father, Paul Stewart.

   He is survived by his wife, Peggy Barker,of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Grover Edward Barker, Jr., of Richmond, Kentucky; a daughter, Melinda Ratliff (Jeff), of Jenkins, Kentucky; three grandsons, Granite Ratliff, Colton Ratliff and AndrewRatliff, all of Jenkins, Kentucky; a brother, Maxie Barker, of Arizona City, Arizona; and a host of other family and friends.

   James Clinton Hopkins,Sr., age 72, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday January 3, 2015 at his home.  He was born onAugust 20, 1942 at Wheelright, Kentucky and was raised in Pike County Kentucky; he had made Jenkins his home for over forty years.  Mr. Hopkins had worked as a railroad inspector for CSXTransportation.  He had served in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  Mr. Hopkins attended the Marshalls Branch Freedom of Worship Church.  He enjoyed riding hismotorcycle, was an avid fisherman and was a great fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team.       

   He was a son of the late James FreelandHopkins and Mary O’Kulich Hopkins.  Mr. Hopkins was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Griffin Hopkins.

   He is survived by two sons, James C. Hopkins, Jr., of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Tony Hopkins, of Dalton, Georgia; sixgrandchildren, Kyra Smallwood, of Morristown, Tennessee, Jaida Hopkins, of Bean Station, Tennessee, Emma Marie Sumner, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, James Matthew Hopkins, Shawn Daniel Hopkins and NatalieHopkins, all of Jenkins, Kentucky; two great-grandchildren, Lilli Jonah Smith and Archer Raylan Reed Sumner; two sisters, Marie Epling, of Virgie, Kentucky, and Irene Wright, of Jenkins, Kentucky; abrother, Jack Hopkins, of Virgie, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Dennis Bentley, age 73, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on January 3, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. Hewas born on March 28, 1942 at Neon, Kentucky. Mr. Bentley had worked in security in the coal mining industry. He was of the Church of Christ Faith.

He was a son of the late Daniel Bentley and Verna Meade Bentley. Mr. Bentley was also preceded indeath by two brothers, Jimmy Wayne Bentley and Dwight Bentley.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Bentley, of Jenkins, Kentucky; four sisters, Doris Bradley, ofNicholasville, Kentucky, Lois Centers, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Karen Ramey and Joyce Forsight, both of Ohio; two brothers, Lonnie Van Bentley and Bill Bentley, both of Ohio; a special friend that wasthought of as family, Michael Mullins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Iolene Fleming, age71, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday December 31, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on November 5, 1943 at Jonancy, Kentucky, andlived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Fleming was a charter member of the Letcher County Coal Miners Memorial Organization, secretary treasurer for the Hemphill CommunityCenter for several years, a former member of the Kids’ Day committee, former secretary of the Letcher County Chapter of the Kentucky Arts Council; she sang with the King’s Traverlers’ Quartet andsang with the Joint-Heirs for thirty-eight years.  Ms. Fleming was a homemaker and was a member of the Hemphill Baptist Church.

   She was a daughter of the late Kennel Roberts and Hattie Baldwin Roberts.  Ms. Fleming was also preceded in deathby her husband, Dennie Fleming.

   She is survived by her son, Dennie Christopher “Chris” Fleming (Norene), of Jackhorn, Kentucky; two grandchildren,Charissa Fleming and Quaydenn Fleming, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; one great-grandchild, Adyxavier Miller; two sisters, Ina Lee Potter, of Seco, Kentucky, and Phyllis Ann Mullins, of Hemphill,Kentucky; one brother, Timmy K. Roberts, of Paintsville, Kentucky; a special friend that she thought of as a daughter, Paula Miller, and her daughter, Carlee Sexton, both of Tennessee; and a host ofother family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Friday January 2, 2015 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Homes Neon Chapel, Neon,Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Danny Hurst officiating.  Interment will follow at Roberts Family Cemetery,Jonancy, Kentucky.
