    Joseph Bukovich, Jr., age 95, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on SundayDecember 28, 2014 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on September 5, 1919 at Buhl, Minnesota, and had made Jenkins his home for over ninety years.  Hewas employed by Beth-Elkhorn as a lab technician at the Dunham Preparation Plant for over forty years.    Joe was a veteran of World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Crossfor extraordinary achievement in aerial flights in the southwest Pacific.  He was of the Baptist Faith.

   Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Bukovich. 

   He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Bukovich DePriest (Joe), of Jenkins, Kentucky; two granddaughters, AimeeDePriest Wilson (Tim), of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Stacey DePriest Minton (Robbie), of Wytheville, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Abigale Leigh Wilson, Amelia Grace Wilson, Luke Edward Minton,Joseph Kade Minton and Maggie Leigh Minton; a special lifelong friend, Wayne Collins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   The family would like to express a special thanks to Christine and Mary at the Senior Citizens in Jenkins, and hisbuddy Doug at the VA Center.  Your kindness will never be forgotten.

   Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 30, 2014 from 6:00-7:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel,Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM, with Joe DePriest officiating.  Family and friends will leave the funeral home at 11:15 AM on Wednesday December 31, 2014 andtravel in procession for interment at the Beverly Cemetery, Wise, Virginia. 

   Robert Stambaugh, Sr., 79, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28,2014, at his residence.

   Mr. Stambaugh was born on June 27, 1935 in Whitehouse, Kentucky, a son of the late Russell and Mae SpradlinStambaugh.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Stambaugh and Bill Stambaugh. 

   He retired in 1999 as a line worker for General Motors; was a United States Army Veteran; and was a member of theChurch of God in Greenup, Kentucky.

   Surviving are his wife, Helen Richardson Stambaugh; one daughter, Deanna Martin, of Ashland, Kentucky; three sons,Terry (Chayanna) Stambaugh, of Harlan, Kentucky, Robert (Belinda) Stambaugh, Jr., of Ashland, Kentucky, and Russell (Denise) Stambaugh; and six grandchildren.

   Visitation for family and friends will be at the Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Kentucky, from 6:00-8:00 PM onTuesday December 30, 2014.  Visitation will also be at Carty Funeral Home in Neon, Kentucky, after 6:00 PM on Wednesday December 31, 2014. 

   Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday January 1, 2015, at Carty Funeral Home by the Rev. HydenCurnutt and the Rev. Kevin Whitt.  Burial will be in the Whitaker Cemetery, Whitaker, Kentucky. 

   Chester Stewart, age 87, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday December 24, 2014 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg,Kentucky.  He was born on April 12, 1927 in Wise County, Virginia.  Chester was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a demolition expert and combat diver from1945-1947.   After his military service, he began his career at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore Maryland.  He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1982 after forty-five years of service. Chester was a thirty-second degree mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite, having belonged to the Patapsco Masonic Lodge # 183, Dundalk, Maryland; he was also a member of ShrinersInternational.  Some years after retiring, Chester moved back to Kentucky, where he lived as a child.  He lived every day to the fullest.

   He was the son of the late Matthew Stewart and Bertha (Killen) Stewart.  Chester wasalso preceded in death by a sister, Ruby (Stewart) Brown and a brother, John Stewart.  He married Ruth (Mullins) Stewart in May of 1948, and they had been married for forty-four years, when shepassed away in July of 1992.

   Chester is survived by a daughter, Darnillia Sanders, and her husband, Danny, of Jenkins,Kentucky; two grandchildren, Mark Taylor, of Sparrows Point, Maryland, and Chantel (Sanders) Pennepacker, of Dundalk, Maryland; two great-granddaughters, Mariah Taylor, of Baltimore, Maryland, andMadison Pennepacker, of Dundalk, Maryland; and a host of other family and friends.

   Allene Lockland AdkinsPennell, age 89, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday December 18, 2014 at Parkview Nursing andRehabilitation Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on April 17, 1925 in Letcher County Kentucky and was raised in Letcher County.  Allene was a homemaker and was of the BaptistFaith. 

   She was a daughter of the late AndrewJackson Haynes and Evaline Haynes.  Allene is preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Adkins; her second husband, John Pennell; five sisters, Alice Mullins, Alzonia Stomel, Alora Ratliff,Alta Mae Blevins and Alpha Haynes; and four brothers, Alfred Haynes, Albert Haynes, Alvin Haynes and Alfonso Haynes.

   She is survived by three daughters, Anita “Mickey” Davidson (Phil), Oma Pennell (Robert), both of Jenkins, Kentucky,and Patricia Lucas (Jerry), of Mooresburg, Tennessee; two sons, Sammy Adkins (Lisa), of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Tim Adkins (Lois), of Mooresburg, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Kathy, Rich, Trisha,Steven, Robbie, Jason, Jonathan, Angela, Sammy II., Josh, Timothy and Kayla; nineteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta Blevins, of Port Charlotte, Florida; and ahost of other family and friends.

   Royce  Edgar (Lester-Burr) Mullins, of Jackhorn, KY went home to be with his Heavenly Father onMonday November 24, 2014 at Hazard ARH.

   Royce was the son of Darwin and Ota Mullins of Jackhorn, KY. He was born May 13, 1934 in Pound, VA being 80 years, 6months and 11 days of age at the time of his passing and was a Christian and a devout student of the word of God for over 55 Years.

   He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Violet Mullins and loving daughter Beverly Lynn Mullins and was precededin death by daughter Darlene Mullins, sisters Yvonne Miller and Madonna Sue Mullins, a brother Clifford Mullins, brother-in laws; Ralph Paige,  James Meade and Johnny Elkins, a niece DebraMillion and a nephew Ricky Meade and a great-niece Ericka Nichole Miller.

   Also surviving are three sisters; Joyce Paige of Baltimore, MD. Loretta Meade of Deane, KY and Cathy Elkins of WhitePine, TN. Five brothers; Lennis Mullins of Baltimore, MD. Ellis Mullins and wife Felice of Baltimore, MD. J.C. Mullins and wife Mickey of Baltimore, MD. Ronald Mullins and wife Glenda of Jackhorn, KYand Michael Mullins and wife Pamela of Jackhorn, KY.

   Burr also leaves behind a brother-in-law Jessie Miller and many nephews, nieces great nephews, great nieces and a veryspecial little great niece “Abby” and a host of extended family members and dear friends to mourn his passing and to celebrate his “Life and Homecoming”.

   Dan Potter, beloved husband of the late Iva Lee “Ivy” Potter, loving father of Dan Potter, Jr. andAda Braun; also survived by seven grandchildren, Christina Albers, Dan Potter, III., Todd Potter, Courtney Evans, Eric, Aaron and Daniel Alex Braun; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen, Max Potter,Alex Cade, Isaac Morris, Phillip, Gabriella Evans and Rose Braun.  Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Ralph, Archie and Marty; and his grandson, Jonnie.  Dan passed away onNovember 10, 2014 surrounded by his family.  Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association.

   Gwendolyn Terry Rudd, age 80 of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on November 6, 2014 at WhitesburgAppalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on June 7, 1934 at Seco, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a homemaker, whoenjoyed cooking, watching cooking shows and shopping with her daughter.

   She was a daughter of the late Thomas H. Terry, Sr. and Norma Vanhoose Terry.  Ms. Rudd was also preceded indeath by two children, Dewanna Kaye Rudd and Timothy Wade Rudd; four sisters, Betty Ann Terry, Joy Terry, Ruella Mooney and Jewel Terry; and one brother, Thomas H. Terry, Jr.

   She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Willard Rudd, of Neon, Kentucky; a daughter, Sheree Wright (Barry),of Neon, Kentucky; three sons, David Rudd (Kaye), of Johnson City, Tennessee, Mike Rudd (Angie), of Bristol, Virginia; and Chris Rudd (Erin), of Jonesborough, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren;eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.

  RickyHolbrook, age 53, of Ermine, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday October 23, 2014 at Ermine, Kentucky.  Hewas born on June 28, 1961 at Gary, Indiana to Helen and Charles Holbrook.  Ricky Holbrook enjoyed camping and fishing to pass time.

   Ricky Holbrook was preceded in death byhis grandmother, Nannie; and two brothers, Alvin Holbrook, of Cowan, Kentucky, and Herman Godfrey Holbrook, of Whitesburg, Kentucky.

   Ricky is survived by one daughter,Margaret Marie Holbrook, of Ermine, Kentucky; one son, Ricky Walter Holbrook, of Neon, Kentucky; his true love, Maries Bates Holbrook, of Neon, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Shyann Leshae Holbrook, ofNeon, Kentucky; five brothers, Charlie Paul Holbrook, Ronnie Holbrook, of Hindman, Kentucky, Joe Holbrook, of Redfox, Kentucky, Damoon Holbrook, of Paintsville, Kentucky, and Tony Holbrook, ofLakeview, Ohio; one sister, Regina Bostic, of Pikeville, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

   WilliamDavis, age 50, of Thornton, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday October 9, 2014 at Millstone, Kentucky.  Hewas born on May 11, 1964 in Letcher County, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Davis was of the Freewill Baptist Faith.

   He was a son of the late Cotton Leo Davisand Dorothy Sturgill Davis.  Mr. Davis was also preceded in death by three sisters, Vickie Webb, Joyce Stanley and Regina Gose; and two brothers, Stevie Allen Davis and D-DayDavis.

   Survivors include, a daughter, TashaDavis, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; a son, Joshua Eric Davis, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; his ex-wife, Tina Davis, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; his companion, Naomi Muncy; a sister, Shelia Stallard, of Whitesburg,Kentucky; one half-sister, Dorothy Dallhare, of Lexington, Kentucky; one half-brother, Jimmy Davis, of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Coy Gail Riley,Sr., age 60, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday October 9, 2014 at Whitesburg AppalachianRegional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on May 16, 1954 at Whitesburg, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Riley worked in the coal mines,was a mechanic, an all-out handyman and served as a volunteer firefighter for several departments.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was of the Christian Faith.

   He was a son of the late Bige Riley andThelma Gibson.  Mr. Riley was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy Riley; a son, Jason Allen Riley; and two brothers, Wendall Lee Riley and Allen Riley.

   Survivors include three sons, Coy GailRiley, Jr. (Angie), of Thornton, Kentucky, Thomas Emanuel Riley (Catrina), of Isom, Kentucky, and Michael Ray Riley (Arielle), of Payne Gap, Kentucky; Nathan Snowden, of Mayking, Kentucky, whom Mr.Riley raised like a son; his step-father, Mark Gibson, of Haymond, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Kayla Riley, of Bottom Fork, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, with a little girl being on the way; threesisters, Verna Adams, of Camp Branch, Kentucky, Rena Collins, of Crafts Colley, Kentucky, and Bertha Kiser, of Pistol City, Kentucky; two brothers, Mark Gibson, of Haymond, Kentucky, and EmmitGibson, of Roxna, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Bill “Tater”Mullins, age 79, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday October 4, 2014 at his home in McRoberts,Kentucky.  He was born on January 13, 1935 in Pike County, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He was a retired coal miner and was a member of the United MineWorkers of America.  Bill served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1958.  Bill was a Freemason and had been a member of the Lonesome Pine Masonic Lodge #884, Neon, Kentucky,since 1974; he held the distinction of being a forty year member and was an Honorary Past Master of the lodge.  He was also a member of Shriners for the past twenty-five years and was a currentmember of the Elkhorn Shrine Club, Jenkins, Kentucky.  He married Mildred “Pegib” Little on June 1, 1954.

   He was a son of the late Daniel and PearlBentley, of Etty, Kentucky.   

   He is survived by his lifelong love,Mildred “Pegib” Mullins, for sixty years; one daughter, Kim Adams (Sam), of McRoberts, Kentucky; four sons, Billy “Sonny” Mullins (Charlotte), of McRoberts, Kentucky, Zack Mullins (Tina), of CampBranch, Kentucky, Jeff Mullins (Tabitha), of McRoberts, Kentucky, Jessee Mullins (Deanna), of Seco, Kentucky; three sisters, Willa Bushway, of Michigan, Eva Mullins and Erma Tackett, both of Etty,Kentucky; one brother, Scott Bentley, of Etty, Kentucky; two half-sisters, Fran Johnson, of Speight, Kentucky, and Matilda Newsome, of Longfork, Kentucky; three half-brothers, Don Taylor, ofTennessee, Lonnie Taylor and Billy Ralph Taylor, both of Morehead, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

   Frankie Potter, age 84, of Groveport, Ohio, passed away on ThursdaySeptember 25, 2014 at Mount Caramel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.  She was born on February 16, 1930 at Jackhorn, Kentucky, and was raised and lived in Letcher County, Kentucky, until 1968,when she moved to New Lexington, Ohio.  Ms. Potter was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ for over sixty-nine years.

   She was a daughter of the late Hayes and Cynthia Johnson Little.  Ms. Potter wasalso preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Lynn Johnson; a son-in-law, Glenn Alton Johnson; six sisters, Goma Bostain, Madge Bentley, Sophie Huston, Cleda Hall, Fern Ritchie and Lizzie Slone;and three brothers, Bobby Little, Tommy Little and Johnny Little. 

   She is survived by her husband, Sam Potter, of Groveport, Ohio; there daughters, SharonJohnson, of Long Fork, Kentucky, Linda Euman, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Gaye Pape, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; one brother, Terry Little, of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; eightgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   James CurtisArnett, age 38, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday September 18, 2014 at Whitesburg AppalachianRegional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on June 28, 1976 at Whitesburg, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Arnett was a horse enthusiast,who enjoyed horses and trading horses.  He also enjoyed fishing, four-wheelers, bon fires, teaching his daughters how to hunt and spending time with his family.  Mr. Arnett was a member ofAmerican Legion Post 104, Neon, Kentucky, was of the Pentecostal Faith and was an outgoing friend of the community.

   He was preceded in death by his motherSusan Hall Arnett; Michael “Mike” Lee Arnett; two infant children; his loving father-in-law, Timothy Slone; and his mother-in-law, Kathy D. Slone.

   He is survived by his wife, Kathy “Momma” Ann Arnett, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two daughters, Jamie “daddy’s piggie”Arnett and Leighanna “daddy’s cowgirl” Arnett, both of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Isaiah Jacob Sturgill Arnett, of Jenkins, Kentucky; his father, James Lee Arnett (Wendy), of Haymond, Kentucky; abrother, Shelbert “Scoob” Marion Arnett (Charlotte), of Jenkins, Kentucky; two step-sisters, Amber Bevins (Beezer), of McRoberts, Kentucky, and Misty Hensley, of Cumberland, Kentucky; several niecesand nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  Bobby GeneSturgill, age 78, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at Whitesburg AppalachianRegional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on May 29, 1936 at Kona, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Sturgill had worked as a mine operatorand had retired from the Southeast Coal Company.  He was a member of Hemphill Church of Christ; he enjoyed going to Cherokee Lake with his sons and grandsons and enjoyed watching the Universityof Kentucky basketball games.  Mr. Sturgill greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was fortunate to have had the opportunity of spending time with his grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren each day. 

   He was a son of the late Edgar and RosaLucas Sturgill.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Sturgill.

   He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Johnson Sturgill; three daughters, Tammy Adams, Judy Bentley,both of Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Kathy Mullins, of Neon, Kentucky; three sons, Michael Sturgill, Jeff Sturgill, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Jack Sturgill, of Payne Gap, Kentucky; thirteengrandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, James Sturgill, of Campbranch, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

  Lessie Johnson Fleming,age 87, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away at her residence on September 9, 2014.  She was born on July 7, 1927 on Cook Branch, at Hartley, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of the lateKennis and Caldonia Johnson.  She had been in failing health for several months and on Tuesday, she departed this life very peacefully.

   She was preceded in death by herhusband, Clinton Fleming; her oldest son, Keith Fleming; three brothers, Lonnie, Connie and Roscoe; and one sister, Evon.  She is survived by three children, Teddy (Judy) Fleming, of McRoberts,Kentucky, Kathy (Leslie, Jr.) McFall, of Neon, Kentucky, and Chris (Pam) Fleming, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; one sister, Lois Fleming, of Corbin, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren;two great-great-grandchildren; and two pets that were very close to her heart, a dog, Tipper and a cat, Baby.

   Lessie was baptized in April of 1944 and was a member of the Church of Christ.  She enjoyed the worshipservices of the church and spent many hours encouraging others to a greater faithfulness to God.  On December 24, 1943, Lessie and Clinton were married at the courthouse at Whitesburg. They were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on December 24, 2003.  She spent her life caring and cooking for her family.  Every year she worked hard to put food up for thewinter.  She would work tirelessly breaking beans to dry and put in the freezer.  Every fall it was a family event to make apple butter and mixed pickles.  She leaves behind manyfamily members and friends that will miss her love and guidance greatly.

  Norwood Potter, age 80, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Saturday August 23, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on June 2,1934 at Jackhorn, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Jackhorn, Kentucky.  Mr. Potter was a retired coal miner of thirty plus years.  He was a member of the Son of the American Legion,of Neon, Kentucky, Post 104.    

   He was ason of the late Morgan and Virginia Hunter Potter.  Mr. Potter was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Potter; his step-mother, Helen Potter; a son, Donnie Lee Potter; a step-son,Clarence Price; a sister, Jackie; and an infant brother. 

   Mr. Potter is survived by his six children, Johnny Potter (Teresa), of Jackhorn,Kentucky, Michelle Hall (Matt), of Tennessee, Deloris Najera, of Florida, Colleena Steel (Jesse), of Ohio, Judith Darlene Mullins, of Kentucky, and Sam Price, of Ohio; four sisters, Minnie Pratt, ofMorristown, Tennessee, Wilma Epifano, of Thornville, Ohio, Vickie Watts (Ken), of Blacky, Kentucky, and Gina Wright (Mike), of Crafts Colley, Kentucky; seven brothers, Clabe Potter, of Neon,Kentucky, Charles Potter, of Jefferson, Tennessee, Lee Potter (Debbie), of Lebanon, Virginia, James Potter (Gerldine), of Knob Noster, Missouri, McKinley Potter (Janie), of Kimbolton, Ohio, TerryPotter (Joanne), of Tennessee, and Jeff Potter (Michelle), of Jackhorn, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a long list of nieces and nephews; and a number of other familyand friends.

      Audra Estill Duty, age 77, of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky,passed away on Tuesday August 12, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  Audra was born on September 29, 1936 at Sheas Fork, McRoberts, Kentucky.  He served inthe United States Army for three years, from 1957-1960.  Audra attended Fleming-Neon Church of God, where he loved to sing and worship for many years.  He enjoyed teaching the Adult SundaySchool Class. 

   Audra was a son of the late Carl and Maxie Ramey Duty.  He was also preceded indeath by two sisters, Bea Trent and Janie Hampton; and four brothers, Albert Duty, Don Duty, Billy Duty and Tony Duty.

   Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Dean Potter Duty, of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky; a son,Kevin Anderson Duty, of Cromona, Kentucky; a grandson, Caleb Andrew Duty, of Cromona, Kentucky; three sisters, Betty Bush, of Cocks Creek, Kentucky, Bonnie Kriegh, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and BerniceEvans, of Middleburg, Florida; three brothers, Kirby Duty, Frank Duty and Kenneth “Kenny” Duty, of Indianapolis, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.

  Betty June Quillen, age 83, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday August 2, 2014 at her home.  She was born on May 3,1931 at Smoot Creek, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Quillen was a homemaker, who took great enjoyment in preparing meals for family, crocheting andspending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of the New Freedom of Worship Center and loved her church and attending.

  She was a daughter of the late Bennie Collins and Goldie Sexton Collins.  She was alsopreceded in death by her husband, John Quillen; a sister, Glora Faye Collins; three brothers, Carol Collins, Bill Collins and Paul Collins.

  Ms. Quillen is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Johnson (Gordon), of Neon, Kentucky; a son, DannyQuillen (Vickie), of Neon, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Nikole, Brandon, Joshua, Mandy, Mistie and Everett; fourteen great-grandchildren, Jordan, Casey, Becca, Erica, Alyssa, Jackson, Sidney, Judd,Gabbi, Katie, Jake, Gracie, Madison and Keaton; one great-great-grandchild, Braiden; three sisters, Francis Glardon, Mae Holbrook and Janice Haddix; a brother, Kenneth Collins; several nieces andnephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Nellie Marie Riddle Everidge, age 85, of Ermine, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday July 23, 2014 atWhitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on November 18, 1928 at McRoberts, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms.Everidge was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Willard Riddle and Etta Little Riddle.  She was also preceded in death by herstepfather, Coda Mullins and a sister, Nora Holmes.

   Louise “Tiny” Hall,age 70, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday July 19, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on Jun 26, 1944 at Ermine, Kentucky and was alifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a member of American Legion Post 66, and played the trumpet at military funerals for some time.  Ms. Hall was of the ChristianFaith.

   She was a daughter of the late Bill M. Stallard and Mary Ellen Adams Stallard.  Ms. Hall was also preceded indeath by an infant sister, Sharon Louise Stallard; a brother, William “Curly” Boyd Stallard; and her grandparents, who raised her, Ewens Adams and Maudie Adams.

   She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Louise Johnson (Randell “Buddy Boy”), of Camp Brance, Kentucky, and Regina“Jenny” Clifton (Anthony), of Whitco, Kentucky; three sons, Hiram “Buddy” Hall (Marcia), of Kite, Kentucky, Monty “Jobo” Hall (Chastity), of Jenkins, Kentucky, and James Gilliam (Susan), of Grayson,Kentucky; two grandsons, Randell Chase Johnson and Tyler Duwayne Hall; three step-grandchildren, Braxton Bentley, Nathan McCoy and Corey McCoy; a brother, James Darrell Stallard, of Ohio; and a hostof other family and friends.

   Carol Anne Litts, age 60, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday July 15, 2014 at St. JosephHospice Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on March 30, 1954 at Norton, Virginia, and was a lifelong resident of Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was a graduate of Jenkins High School andattended the University of Kentucky before returning home to take over the family business.  She was serving her third term for the Jenkins City Council; she served on the Mountain HeritageFestival Committee and was Chairman of the Raymond C. Litts Memorial Golf Tournament.  Carol Anne had formerly served on the Jenkins Community Hospital Board of Directors, was a past member ofthe Jenkins Days Committee, and was the past president of the Elkhorn County Club Ladies Golf Tournament.  She was business owner for over thirty-six years, as the owner of the Flower House inJenkins.  Carol Anne was very proud to have served the community, she strove for perfection in what she did, and held the notable distinction of doing weddings in five states.  She lovedher dogs all of her life, she enjoyed travelling extensively and was an avid golfer and swimmer.  She was as much a fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats as anyone, which caused frictionwith her mother, when the wildcats played her mother’s alma mater, the University of Louisville.  She had a rich full life and a plethora of friends with whom she enjoyed herlife. 

   She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond C. Litts.

   Carol Anne is survived by her mother, Thelma Hidvegi Litts, of Jenkins, Kentucky; her brother, Stevie Joe Litts, ofJenkins, Kentucky; several cousins; several special friends, Wendy Jones, Patty Wood, Debbie Hogg, Lisa Sanders, Kathy Sergent, Edith Davis, Jo Ann Baldwin, Kim Page and Sandy Spears; her belovedpets, Holly and Scooby; and a host of other family and friends.

 Gary Bruce Johnson, age 71, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away on Friday July11, 2014 at his home.  He was born on August 16, 1942 at Dorton, Kentucky and lived most of his life in McRoberts, Kentucky.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and aMaster’s Degree in Elementary Education from Pikeville University.   Mr. Johnson possessed a strong passion for education and taught at McRoberts Elementary School for twenty-sevenyears.  He was a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. 

   He was a son of the late Harrison and Sylvia Oaks Johnson.

   Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Helen Johnson, of McRoberts, Kentucky; a daughter,Lori L. Holbrook (Kevin), of Parkers Lake, Kentucky; two sons, David Johnson (Gayla), of Wise, Virginia, and Scott Johnson (Andrea), of McRoberts, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Corey Holbrook andAndrew Holbrook; two step-grandchildren, Alyssa Sturgill and Darren Duty; two brothers, Fred Johnson, of Robinson Creek, Kentucky, and Ted Johnson, of Shelby Gap, Kentucky; a sister, Madelyn Davis,of Shelby Gap, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  Kenneth “Dog” Ray Tackett, age 65, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away onJuly 5, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on October 12, 1948 at Jackhorn, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County,Kentucky.  He had worked as miner for the Scotia Coal Company.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served two tours during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Tackett had thedistinction of receiving a Purple Heart for his action in Vietnam.  He served as commander of the American Legion Post 104.  He was a loving father to his two daughters.  Mr. Tacketthad been baptized and had received the Lord as his savior.

   He was a son of the late William Tackett and Barbara Hall Tackett.  He was alsopreceded in death by three sisters, Brenda Gayle Tackett, June Mullins and Carol Samu; and six brothers, Raymond Tackett, Haroldene Tackett, Garland Tackett, Virgil Tackett, Milford Tackett, TrumanTackett and Carl Tackett.

 Barbara Blood Cantrell, age 76, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away  onSaturday July 5, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee.  She was born on April 7, 1938 at McRoberts, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Ms. Cantrell was a homemaker and attended the Cornerstone Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be greatly missed bymany. 

   She was a daughter of the late Sherwood and Myrtle Fleming Little.  She was alsopreceded in death by two husbands, David L. Blood and Millard Cantrell; her companion of seventeen years, Bobby Thompson; and two sisters, Myrtle Bartley, of Michigan, and Shelby Mullins, ofMcRoberts, Kentucky.

   Oda Faye Miller, of Kona, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday June 30, 2014 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital,Hazard, Kentucky.  The daughter of the late Albert and Ella Holbrook Slone, she was born on July 8, 1941 at Bottom Fork Kentucky, making her seventy-two years, eleven months and twenty-two daysof age at her passing. She was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Faye worked in the public eye for most all of her life as a cook, having previously been employed by LKLPHeadstart for thirty-five years, the Garden Restaurant, Tooties and the Drug Store in Neon.  Prior to her passing, she dedicated herself to the Lord.  Faye was a devoted mother,grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be missed by many. 

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, WoodySlone.

 Thelma J. “Jackie” Pannell Minor, widow of Estil James Minor, a devoted andloving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.  She was a member of Man O’ War Church of God.  Jackie and Estil lived in Burdineuntil 1967, when they moved to Pompano Beach, Florida to establish their own business.  Jackie moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 2000 to be with her family. 

   She was a daughter of the late William and Delphia Tucker Pannell.  She was precededin death by brothers, Hobart Pannell and Dewey Pannell, and sisters, Nannie Miller, Billie Vanover and Lena Priest. 

   She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tommy Davis, of Lexington,Kentucky; two grandsons, Chad Davis and his wife, Caroline Calcote, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Brian Davis and fiancé, Leigh Ann Jordan, of Lexington, Kentucky; four great-children, Cal Davis,Mark Davis, Grace Davis and Hope Davis; two brothers, Dave Pannell and wife, Margaret, and Fred Pannell and wife, Cathy; sister, Pearl Richardson and husband, John; and numerous other family membersand friends.

   Luther Houston Meade, 89, of Kingscreek,Kentucky passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Bluegrass Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on January 12, 1925 at Pound, Virginia to the late Oliver and Dessie Bougess Meade, andlived most of his life in  Letcher County, Kentucky.

    Mr. Meade was a veteran of the United States Navy,leaving his family at the age of 17 to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was aboard the USS Missouri when the Peace Treaty with Japan was signed, ending the war.

    After the war, Luther joined his brother, Tate, inworking for the company that constructed a power plant on the Ohio River. He spent 20 years working in construction in northern Kentucky and southern Ohio before returning to the mountains to beginhis career in the mining industry.

    In the early 1970’s Mr. Meade founded L & N CoalCompany in Pike County with a partner. Within a few years, Luther returned to his childhood home at Kingscreek and along with brother, Jack Meade, and another local businessman, Lawrence Shepherd,founded Meade and Shepherd Coal Company.

    Through the years, hundreds of coal miners learned howto operate and repair heavy equipment under the careful instruction of Luther Meade.

    He was also renown for his cooking expertise. Throughthe years, Luther hosted pig roasts for Gov. Louie B. Nunn, Gov. Martha Layne Collins, U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers, State Senator Gary C. Johnson, and U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell. He was also calledupon to organize the Pig Roasts that ultimately began the Letcher County Mountain Heritage Festival, feeding crowds of 5,000 people.

    Though he was well respected for his work in the coalindustry and his civic involvement, Luther’s greatest joy came from the time he shared with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His home was filled with joy andlaughter as those he loved were always welcome to come and fish from his pond, trek through the hills, and enjoy the seemingly endless treats coming off his grill.

   Those who knew and loved him will forever smile whenever they think of Luther Meade.

   Luther was preceded in death by four brothers: Dempsey, Otto, Charles and Ed; and three sisters: Hazel Meade, PaulineMeade and Lida Hogg.

   Kenneth Bryan Gooch, age 78, of Millstone, Kentucky, passed away onMonday June 2, 2014 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, KY.  He was born on July 26, 1935 at Neon, KY, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, KY.  Mr. Goochbegan his professional career by teaching at Goose Creek, Seco, and Hemphill schools.  Kenneth began his banking career at First Security Bank at Neon and later moved to the Whitesburg Officeand retired as Executive Vice President of the Whitesburg Market, Community Trust Bank after 38 years.  Mr. Gooch was the pastor of Deane Baptist Church for thirty-five years.  He dearlyloved reading, poetry, gardening and dancing. Mr Gooch was an avid sports fan and he loved watching his children and grandchildren play their individual sports.  He enjoyed taking his family towatch Cincinnati Reds baseball. He enjoyed watching and talking football (especially with his Dad). Kenneth also enjoyed golfing with family and friends.

   He was the son of the late Jennings Bryan Gooch and Katie Meade Gooch.  Mr. Goochwas also preceded in death by a sister, Ina Hall; and two brothers, Vernon Gooch and James Gooch.

   Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Ernestine Gooch, of Millstone, KY; adaughter, Robin Elaine Bonnell (Allen), of Corbin, KY; four sons, Mark Anthony Gooch (Pat), of Pikeville, KY, Kenneth Bryan Gooch, Jr., of Neon, KY, Phillip Christopher Gooch (Cynthia), of Hazard,KY, and Dr. Kevin Matthew Gooch (Missy), of Millstone, KY; a daughter-in-law, Robin Morgan, of Millstone, KY; eight grandchildren, Gabriel, Natalie (Michael), Stacie, Whitney (Josh), Jonah, Kassidy,Rachel and Noah; a sister, Draxie McMillan, of Ravenna, KY; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

 Jacqueline Collins, age 88, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, went to be with her Lordand Savior on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at her home.  She was born on February 9, 1926; the daughter of Edna and Millard Vaughn, of Payne Gap, Kentucky.

   Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Cassie and Bobby; and one son,Donnie.

   She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Orlando Collins; five sons, Jerry,Gene, Tommy, Bobby and Ronny; three daughters, Sue, Jill and Lesa; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Millard Vaughn, Jr., of Spring Hill, Florida; along with other family andfriends.

   Charlsie Pauline Sergent, age 88, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at the Nim Henson Geriatric Center, Jackson, Kentucky.  She was born on December 1, 1925 at Millstone,Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Sergent worked as a nurse’s aid at the Seco and Jenkins Hospitals.  She was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Claude McHone and Mamie Cowan McHone.  She was also preceded in death by her firsthusband, Elbert Young and later her second husband, James Sergent; a sister, Geraldine Gibson; and a brother, Claude McHone, Jr.

    She is survived by three sisters, Billie DeSimone, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Norma Huff, of Neon, Kentucky, andCarrie Wright; one brother, George McHone, of Millstone, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  LarryAllen Nelson, age 69, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on May 5, 1945 atCromona, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Nelson had worked as a coal miner.  He was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church but in recent years had beenattending the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church.     

   He was a sonof the late Denver Nelson and Lexie Bailey Nelson.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Jerry Nelson, Ronald Nelson, Ruby Sowards, Joyce Polly and Harold “Dinky”Nelson. 

   Survivors include his wife, Nettie Nelson, of Neon, Kentucky; a daughter, Michelle(Larry) Barber, of Morehead, Kentucky; a son, Justin Nelson, of Neon, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Trey Barber, of Morehead, Kentucky, Kylan Nelson, Lexi Nelson and Hannah Nelson, all of ElkhornCity, Kentucky; a brother, Donald “Sonny” (Norma) Nelson, of Haymond, Kentucky;  two sisters, Betty Quillen, of Haymond Kentucky and Dee “Lala” (Ralph) Ginn, of Burlington, Kentucky; severalnieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  Lorrie Bernice Bevins, age 50, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian RegionalHospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on August 27, 1963 in Letcher County, Kentucky and lived most of her life in the Letcher County.  She enjoyed spending time on Facebook,tending to her cats, reading the bible, her daily devotion and playing Wii bowling; Tyler gave her his Wii, so she could play whenever she wanted.  Ms. Bevins was a homemaker and was of theChristian Faith.

   She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Bevins, and her paternal grandmother,Bessie Cantrell.

   Survivors include her two sons, Randall (Ashley) Matthew Gilliam, of Mebane, NorthCarolina, and Tyler (Joanie) Gilliam, of Jenkins, Kentucky; her mother, Brenda Bevins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Alison Gilliam and Alexa Gilliam; two sisters, Dianna Meade, ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, and Brenda Bevins, of Burdine, Kentucky; four brothers, David Bevins, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Marty Bevins, of Georgia, Wayne Bevins, of North Carolina, and Steve Bevins, ofCalifornia; a great-aunt, to whom she was very close with, Leah Brummett; a niece  Anistan Oliver; four nephews, Ryan Bentley, Dylan Bentley, Andrew Oliver and Ayden Oliver; a great-nephew,Rylan Bentley; and a host of other family and friends.

  EddieWayne Howard, age 54, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on May 28, 1959 atMcRoberts, Kentucky; he was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky and had made Letcher County his home for the last ten years.  Mr. Howard took great pride and enjoyment in working as anunderground coal miner for Jim Walter Resources.  He attended and was baptized at the Victory Temple.     

   He was a sonof the late Earl and Marybelle Howard.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Howard, Jr., Michael “Sonny” Lewis Howard, Jeffery Niel Howard and Timothy “Bo”Howard.

   Virginia Anne Childers, age 57, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away onSaturday May 10, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on June 11, 1956 at Jenkins, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Ms. Childers loved to travel, especially to beaches, and her favorite place to visit was Myrtle Beach.  She greatly enjoyed spending time with family, especially hergrandchildren, and was a noted fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team.  Ms. Childers was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Sexton Gilley.  She was alsopreceded in death by a grandchild, Garren Childers and a sister, Paula Artrip.

   Rose Florence Dingus, age 84, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian RegionalHospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on May 9, 1930 at Jenkins, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Dingus was a former hairdresser and teacherat Mayking Christian School for about 15 years.  She completed her longtime goal and graduated from Clear Creek Bible College in 2000 and held the distinction of being the oldest graduate fromthe program at the time.  Ms. Dingus was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Jenkins.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, andwas a fan of Jenkins and the University of Kentucky sports.

   She was a daughter of the late Kelly Williams and Thelma Brown Williams.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Bobby RayDingus; two sons, Robert Dingus and Charles Dingus; one grandson, Fon Jay Adkins; and three brothers, Paul Williams, Thomas Williams and Charles Williams.

   Survivors include a daughter, Rosetta Adkins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; three sons, Joseph Dingus, Carl (Ruthie) Dingus, both of Beckley, West Virginia,and Samuel (Beth) Dingus, of Florence, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy (Grover) Barker, of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Alma McIntosh, of Zanesville, Ohio;two brothers, Carl (Jean) Williams and Johnny (Carolyn) Williams, both of Kingsport, Tennessee; and a host of other family and friends.

   Trenton Paul Carty, age 8, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at theWhitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky, due to injuries sustained from a bicycle accident.  He was born on September 25, 2005 at Pikeville, Kentucky and was a lifelongresident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Trent was an energetic child with a heart as big as the world.  He was very loving and protective of his family, especially his sister,Arabella.  Trent greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his brothers and sister, spending time with members of the community, especially his friend Jacob, swimming, hiking,playing video games, playing basketball, going to church, ATVing, drawing, which he possessed a talent far beyond his age, and was a noted Batman fan.  Trent was very involved with computers andenjoyed making movies on his laptop and taking pictures on his Ipad.  Trent was well known for being very compassionate and willing to help other regardless of the task.  Trent had anoutgoing and mature personality and had a number of adult friends.  He acquired several nicknames from friends and family but was proud and most noted for “stripe” from the film Gremlins, whichwas given by his granddad, who he was very close with.  Trent had a smile that could light up a room and capture your heart.  He had a passion for magic and possessed several magic kits andwas very proud of the card tricks that he had recently learned and was able to perform very well.  Trent was often described as a very generous little fellow that would give anything of his toanybody.  He was a third grade student at the Burdine Elementary School, where he held the distinction of remaining on honor roll, since his enrollment, and attended the Burdine Freewill BaptistChurch, where he carried his “holly” bible when in attendance. 

   Trent was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Paul Sanders; his paternal grandfather, Verlin Keith Carty, Sr; his maternal great-grandfather,John DePriest; and his paternal great-grandfathers, Hubert Carty and Jack Redman.

  Robert Gene Adams, age 81, of Haymond, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at the WhitesburgAppalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on January 5, 1933 at Mayking, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Adams was a United StatesArmy veteran and served in the Korean War.  He had worked in appliance repair.  Mr. Adams was the minister for the Mayking Church of Christ for over thirty-five years and had hosted atelevision program, where he ministered.  He was passionate about spending time with his grandchildren and church family.  He delighted in spending time at the Pine Mountain Grill, sippingunsweetened tea, with extra lemon, where he would partake in fellowship with family and friends.  

   He was a son of the late Orville and Roxie Kincer Adams.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Buckleyand Jenny Bowlsbey and two brothers, Elmer Adams and J.R. Adams.

  Denzil “Porky” Bentley, Jr., of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the WhitesburgAppalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. “Porky” was born on October 2, 1970, making his stay here on earth forty-three years, seven months and thirty days.  He worked in the coalmines before becoming too sick.  “Porky” fought a long battle with diabetes.  He was a sports fan, loved riding horses and was a very skilled carpenter.  He loved spending time withhis son, Lance and cherished him dearly.  He will be missed dearly. 

   “Porky” was a son of the late Sally Jane Bentley.

   “Porky is survived by a son, Lance Walker Bentley, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; his father, Denzil Bentley, of Jackhorn,Kentucky; two step-children, Stevena Caudill, of Jenkins, Kentucky and Wayne Caudill, of Isom, Kentucky; two sisters, Billie Deanna Bentley, of Yonts Fork, Kentucky and Tonya Denise Kincaid, ofBlackey, Kentucky; nephews, Austin Bentley and Justin Bentley and several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Joseph Kenneth Cantrell, 64, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at the HazardAppalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Kentucky. He was born to Pauline and the late Atchie Cantrell, on October 5, 1949, in Cromona, KY, the youngest of 6 children. He graduated fromFleming-Neon High School in 1968.  He attended Calvary College and Whitesburg Vocational School. He was a proud resident of Letcher County his entire life.   He was a miningelectrician and worked for various companies including Elmac, Fairchild, and most recently Hall Equipment.  Kenny was quite a conversationalist, a great storyteller, and enjoyed the companyof his friends and family.  Kenny was an active member of The Ben Caudill SCV Camp #1629 and Lonesome Pine Masonic Lodge #884.  He was a self-declared historian and passionate abouthonoring the forgotten Civil War soldiers.  He participated in numerous reenactments and headstone settings in the Kentucky and Virginia area.

   He is a son of the late Atchie Cantrell.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Anderson, and twobrothers, Harold Cantrell and Jack Cantrell.

   Survivors include his mother, Pauline Isbell Cantrell of Cromona, Kentucky; two sisters Regina C. Carmony (Jesse) ofHopewell, Virginia, and Alice Faye Jowers (Frank) of Charleston, South Carolina; a very special friend Connie Mullins of Cromona, Kentucky;  several nieces and nephews; and a host of otherfamily and friends.

   Jackie Calvin Newman, age 72, of Maysville, Kentucky, formerly of LetcherCounty, Kentucky, passed away Friday April 25, 2014 at Jonesborough, Tennessee.  He was born on December 22, 1941 at Glamorgan, Virginia and lived most of his life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Mr. Newman worked as a maintenance repair technician in several industries, was a veteran of the United States Army, was fan of the University of Kentucky basketball and was an avidfisherman.      

   He was a son of the late George Calvin Newman and Audrey Mae Jenkins Newman.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, CarolynFaye Newman.

   Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Heard, of Maysville, Kentucky; two sons, Jeffrey Newman and Jackie C.    Anna Sue Tucker Bentley, age 81, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passedaway Sunday April 13, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on January 17, 1933 at Letcher County, Kentucky and lived most of her life in LetcherCounty, Kentucky.  Ms. Bentley was well known throughout the community for being the cook at the Sugar Shack and for the delicious donuts that she made.  She enjoyed caring for her flowers,spending time with kids and grandkids and she was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.        

   She was a daughter of the late Otho and Nancy Alice Hall Bentley.  She was also preceded in death by a son, AllenBentley; twelve sisters, Atha Caudill, Sabrina Blair, Wilma Benge, Lake Pass, Cora Mullins, Opal Bentley, May Bentley, Mary Bentley, Lettie Totten, Stella Salyers, Nettie Taylor and Laura Stallard;and five brothers, Otho Bentley, Jr., John Vint Bentley, Jimmy Bentley, Can Bentley and Willie Bentley.

   George Estil Johnson, age 76, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed awayWednesday April 9, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on March 3, 1938 at Eolia, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Mr. Johnson worked in surface mining and was of the Baptist Faith.  He was an animal lover, who raised both dogs and horses and rode and trained horses. 

   He was a son of the late Willard Edward and Bonnie Daily Johnson.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters,Lorretta Elkins and Eva Mae Hicks; a brother, Henry Estil Blair; and two grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and Phillip Aaron Bare. 

    Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Nadeau, of Whiteville, North Carolina; two sons, George Willard Johnson, ofVirginia, and Robert Estil Johnson, of North Carolina; his lifelong companion, Viola Sawyer, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; four brothers, Eddie Johnson and James Estil Blair, both of Wilmington, NorthCarolina, Willard Johnson and David Johnson, both of Jenkins, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.  

   A private service will be held on Saturday April 12, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins,Kentucky.

  Harold “Dinky” Dean Nelson, age 63, of Whitesburg, Kentucky,passed away Wednesday April 9, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on August 17, 1950 at Fleming, Kentucky and lived most all of his life in LetcherCounty, Kentucky.  Mr. Nelson worked as a coal miner and was of the Christian Faith.  He enjoyed writing poems and collecting coins. 

   He was a son of the late Denver C. and Lexie Bailey Nelson.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, RubyJanella Sowards and Joyce Anna Polly; and two brothers, Jerry Allen and Ronald Gene.   

   Survivors include his two daughters, Karma (John) Wright and Desiree (Todd) Teague; a son, Mercury Dean Nelson; twosisters, Betty (late Clyde) Quillen and Delois “Lala” (Ralph) Ginn; two brothers, Donald “Sonny” (Norma) Nelson and Larry (Nettie) Nelson; and a host of other family and friends. 

   Visitation will be held on Saturday April 12, 2014 after 1:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel, Neon, Kentucky.  Memorialservices will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home, with Mark Wagoner officiating.  A private burial will take place at a later date in the Thornton Cemetery, Thornton,Kentucky.  

   Iris Ann Monroe, age 56, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed awayWednesday April 9, 2014 at her home.  She was born on September 28, 1958 at Baltimore, Maryland and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Monroe was a homemaker and wasof the Baptist Faith.  She loved her grandchildren and greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.      

   She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Ralph Chandler; a son, Marcus Monroe; and a brother, Alex EveretteChandler.

   Survivors include her husband, Norman Monroe, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two daughters, Getamnia Monroe, of Burdine, Kentucky,and Norma (Byron) Lucas, of Cromona, Kentucky; her mother, Carolyn Bowman, of Bishop, Virginia; two sisters, Robin McFall, of Norton, Virginia, and Billie Meadows, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; twobrothers, Ricky Chandler, of Bishop, Virginia, and Vernon “Randy” Randall Chandler, of Crouse, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Bella Lynn Lucas, Austin Lee Little and Jedediah Blair; and a hostof family and friends.

   Bobby Franklin Webb, age 47, of Fleming, Kentucky, passed away Monday April 7,2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on September 25, 1966 at Inez, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr.Webb worked as a diesel mechanic for Universal Well Service and was a member of the Hemphill Church of Christ.  He was well known throughout the community for his passion and ability to work onand paint cars, which were activities he greatly enjoyed doing.  Mr. Webb had a great football career while attending Jenkins High School and was a huge fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.

   He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Amburgey Webb and a brother, Arnold Ray Webb.

   Survivors include his wife, Vickie Webb, of Fleming, Kentucky; a son, Michael Webb, of Fleming, Kentucky; his father, Ray Webb, ofFleming, Kentucky; two sisters, Belinda (John) Fitchpatrick, of Fleming, Kentucky, and Patricia (Doyle) Caudill, of Burdine, Kentucky; two brothers, Elmer (Karen) Webb, of Hemphill, Kentucky, andJimmy (Anetta) Webb, of Payne Gap, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Jerry Wayne Abbott, age 53, of Canmer, Kentucky, formerly ofLetcher County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Markey Cancer Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born on October 23, 1960 at Dayton, Ohio and lived most of his life inLetcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Abbott worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church.  He enjoyed travelling, riding his motorcycle and listening tomusic. 

   He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Squire Sparkman. 

   Survivors include his mother, Betty Jean Sparkman, of Lexington, Kentucky; his father, Joe Abbott, of Michigan; hispartner, Cynthia Spangler, of Canmer, Kentucky; three sisters, Linda Larkey, of Lexington, Kentucky, Terri Abbott, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Denise King, of Lexington, Kentucky; three brothers,Glenn Sparkman, of Nashville Tennessee; Joe Abbott, Jr. and Eddie Abbott, both of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Opal Taylor, age 67, of Ashland, Kentucky formerly of Jenkins, Kentucky, passedaway Sunday March 30, 2014 at her home in Ashland, Kentucky.  She was born on April 29, 1946 at Payne Gap, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Jenkins, Kentucky.  Ms. Taylor was ahomemaker and was of the Christian Faith.   

   She was a daughter of the late Archer and Bertha Mae Justice Perry.  She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Tackett,Ruth Slone and Betty Vanover; and two brothers, Roy Perry and Orville Perry.

   Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Legat, of Dallas, Texas; her son, Claude Shannon Whitaker, of Cumberland, Kentucky; twosisters, Wanda Settles, of Camden, Ohio, and Patty Winters, of Colorado; three grandchildren, Christopher Whitaker, Bethany Whitaker and Mackenzie Whitaker; her favorite niece, Cindy Vanover, ofWilliamson, West Virginia; many loved nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Laurel “Yaya” Anne McCall, age 56, of Neon, Kentucky, passedaway Tuesday April 1, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on March 4, 1958 at Whitesburg, Kentucky and lived most all of her life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  Ms. McCall attended Alice Lloyd College, where she received her associate’s degree, then attended Pikeville College, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree, and then attendedMorehead State University, where she obtained a Rank 1 Master’s degree.  Her education career spanned over thirty years, which included her teaching at several of the elementary schoolsthroughout Letcher County and served as principal of Letcher Elementary School and was teaching at Letcher County High School at the time of her retirement.  She coached cheerleading and wasvery active in the sports program throughout her career.  Ms. McCall was very passionate about her students and the education they received.  She was a member of the Kentucky EducationAssociation and attended the Seco Freewill Baptist Church. 

   She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Orville Bentley, Sr.; a brother, Daniel Orville Bentley, Jr.; and asister, Kathy Ann Bentley. 

   Survivors include her husband, James McCall, of Neon, Kentucky; five daughters, Tina Hall, Wanda McCall, both ofCumberland, Kentucky, Cecilia McCall, of Jackson, Kentucky, Amanda Bates, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Ashley McCall, of Neon, Kentucky; a son, James Allen McCall, of Berea, Kentucky; her mother,Nellean Bentley, of Neon, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Carol Addington, of Beefhide, Kentucky, Beverly Hunt, of Pikeville, Kentucky, Lana Billiter, of Payne Gap,Kentucky; one brother, Michael Bentley, of Neon, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

  Ronnie Dale McLemore, age 60, of Wise, Virginia, formerly ofLetcher County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday March 15, 2014 at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Louisville, Kentucky.  He was born on December 12, 1953 at Fleming, Kentucky andlived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. McLemore spent a number of years working in Martinsville, Virginia at a glass factory as a general laborer.  He enjoyed playingguitar, fishing and spending time with family and friends.  Mr. McLemore was a United States Army veteran, who held the rank of Private First Class and was stationed in Germany.  He was ofthe Pentecostal Faith. 

   He was a son of the late Hiram and Elsie Hughes McLemore.  Mr. McLemore was also preceded in death by a brother,Harvey Watson McLemore. 

   Survivors include four sisters, Billie Jo Raliegh, of Eubank, Kentucky, Deborah Lavone Wyatt, of Appalachia, Virginia,Eloise Wyatt, of Wise, Virginia, and Cordelia Tuttle, of Wise, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.   

   Visitation will be held on Monday March 17, 2014 after 6:00 PM and Tuesday March 18, 2014 after 4:00 PM at the New Freedom of WorshipCenter, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 12:00 PM at the New Freedom of Worship Center, Jenkins, Kentucky, with Danny Quillen and John Wyattofficiating and V.F.W. Post 9600, Pound, Virginia, performing military rites.  Interment will follow at the McRoberts Cemetery, McRoberts, Kentucky.  

   Jack Edward Stephens, age 55, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed awayThursday March 13, 2014 at the Markey Cancer Center, Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born on April 15, 1958 at Jenkins, Kentucky.  He was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky and worked as anelectrician, which required him to work and live throughout the United States.  Mr. Stephens enjoyed playing golf and was a fan of the University of Kentucky Basketball team.  He was amember of the American Legion Post 104, Neon, Kentucky, and was of the Christian Faith.

   He was a son of the late Jack and Dorothy Hughes Stephens.  Mr. Stephens was also preceded in death by hisgrandparents, Woodrow and Ruby Stephens.

   Survivors include his wife, Beverly Stephens, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two daughters, Rachel (Doug) Hayes, of Whitesburg,Kentucky, and Latrissa Gibbs, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Dewayne (Misty) Gibbs, of Goose Creek, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Tanner Blake Edward, McKinlee Hayes, Hailey, Dredon and Kellie; threebrothers, Lee Stephens, of Coeburn, Virginia, Mark Stephens and Scott Stephens, both of Georgia; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.   

   Janet Meade, age 77, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her home.  She wasborn on September 9, 1936 in Seco, Kentucky.  She was a longtime resident of Neon, Kentucky but had also made her home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan for a period of time.  Mrs. Meade was along-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 16 of Flat Rock, Michigan.  

   She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hazel Allen, her loving daughter, Tajuana Sue Meade, a twin sister,Janice Smith and two brothers, Ted and Jack Allen.

   Survivors include her husband of 58 years, J.D. Meade, Seco, Kentucky; one daughter, Theresa (Tony) CyGanik, Michigan;three grandchildren, Jerry (Rachel), Melissa and Heather (Eric); three great grandchildren, Jordan, Madison and Kameron; one sister in law, Joan Allen, Florida; several nieces and nephews and host ofother friends and relatives to mourn her passing.

   A private service will be held by the family at a later date.  She will be forever and always loved and missed byall who knew and loved her.  

  Fitzgerald “Gerald” Hall, age 56, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday March3, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  He was born on November 16, 1957 at Geneva, Ohio and lived most all of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Hall worked forover 28 years for the Kentucky Department of Transportation and retired as a bridge foreman.  He was well known for being a devout and loyal fan of the University of Tennessee sportsprogram.  Mr. Hall was of the Church of God Faith.

   He was a son of the late Ercell Mullins and Janice Bryant Belcher.  Mr. Hall was also preceded in death by his infant daughter,Rachel Lynn Hall and Harrison Belcher, who was like a father to him and raised him. 

   Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Edwards Hall, of Jenkins, Kentucky; three daughters, Bobbie Sue Hall, of Pound, Virginia, Sabrina(David) Perry, of UZ, Kentucky, Jessica (Lee) Garrett, of Bainbridge, Indiana; one son, Steven (Delilah) Anderson, of Norton, Virginia; four sisters, Mavis Crane, of Barstow, California; MelissaLittrell, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Sherry Hall, of Jenkins, Kentucky, and Linda (Ricky) Newsome, of Dorton, Kentucky; six brothers, Marvin Mullins, of Burlington, Kentucky, Marty “Red Top” (Crystal)Mullins, of Neon, Kentucky, Donald Ray Hall, of Louisville, Kentucky, Paul (Teresa) Hall, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Michael (Debbie) Hall, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Timmy (Rhonda) Belcher, of Jenkins,Kentucky; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

  Thurman Ray Wyatt, age 50, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed awayMonday February 17, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  He was born on July 6, 1963 at Jenkins, Kentucky and lived most all ofhis life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Wyatt worked as a chemical cleaning specialist for Protek.  He attended the Peoples Fundamental Baptist Church and was a past member of theSkyview Park Committee.  Mr. Wyatt enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.  He was also an avid fisherman, enjoyed Duck Dynasty and was a big fan of the Universityof Kentucky basketball team. 

   He was preceded in death by his father, George Wyatt; three sisters, Jonella Wyatt, Yolanda Wyatt and Diane Wyatt; and abrother, George Edward Wyatt. 

   Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Deranda Wyatt, of Cromona, Kentucky; two daughters, Ashley (Deran) Hatton, ofPayne Gap, Kentucky and Amber Wyatt, of Burdine, Kentucky; a son, Matthew Wyatt, of Cromona, Kentucky; his mother, Anna Tompkins Wyatt, of Jenkins, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Shaylee Smith, BryleeSmith, Hannah Damron, Jacelyn Hatton, Kinzleigh Damron and Bryson Wyatt; three sisters, Nettie Anderson, Connie Profitt and Goldie Triplett, all of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, Willie Wyatt, ofRockwood, Tennessee and John Wyatt, of Jenkins, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Richard Boyd Morris, age 59, of Neon, Kentucky, passed awaySaturday February 15, 2014 at his home.  He was born on July 13, 1954 at Fleming, Kentucky.  He was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky and moved to Lynch, Kentucky, where he taught schooland coached basketball and football at Lynch High School and later moved to the Louisville area, where he worked for Monumental Life Insurance Company until he retired a few years ago.  Mr.Morris was a graduate of Pikeville College and was of the Christian Faith. 

   He was preceded in death by his father, James “Jimmy” E. Morris and a sister, Lisa Kaye Morris.

   Survivors include his mother, Lula Graham Belcher, of Neon, Kentucky; two children, Constance (Colin) Ritter, of Indianaand Annette Hatfield, of Indiana; a granddaughter, Cyanne Wimberly, of Indiana; a sister, Jennifer (Michael) Sparks, of McRoberts, Kentucky; five nieces and nephews, Megan (Ryan), Ricky (Candice),Shellie (Sammy), Mikey (Brooke) and Kelli; four great nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Mia, Bishop and Reanna; a special friend who was like his brother, Chris Collier; and a host of other family andfriends.

   James “Big Red” Wesley Hall, age 79, of Neon, Kentucky, passedaway Wednesday February 5, 2014 at the St. Joseph Select Specialty Hospital, Warren, Ohio.  He was born on June 5, 1934 at Hemphill, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Letcher County,Kentucky.  He was owner of Wesley Hall Trucking Company and was of the Christian faith. 

   He was a son of the late Mart and Nannie Hall.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosella Johnson and fourbrothers, William “Cookie” Hall, Ballard Hall, Gratz Hall and Jessie Hall.

   Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hall, of Neon, Kentucky; a son, Wesley “Buggy” Hall and his companion, Amanda Hall,of Neon, Kentucky; a grandson, Ryan Michael Hall, of Neon, Kentucky; a sister, Florence Stines, of Neon, Kentucky; three brothers, Bernard Hall, of Goose Creek, Kentucky, Connie Wayne Hall, ofSergent, Kentucky, and Alfred Hall, of Hemphill, Kentucky; also Sierra Hall and Austin “Hoss” Hall who he loved dearly; and a host of other family and friends.

   Aldene Back, age 63, of Windsor, Connecticut, formerly ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Monday February 3, 2014 at her home.  She was born on December 6, 1950 at McRoberts, Kentucky.  Ms. Back worked as a nurse at Jenkins Community Hospital forover thirty years and was of the Christian Faith. 

   She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Back and a brother, Steve Back.

   Survivors include her mother, Lydia Back, of McRoberts, Kentucky; a sister, Lisa Pease, of Crafts Colley, Kentucky; three brothers, Jack Back, of Summerville, South Carolina, Terry Back, of McRoberts, Kentucky, and David Back, of Stafford, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family andfriends.   

   Memorial services will be held on Saturday February 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the McRoberts Community Center with JimJohnston officiating.  Inurnment will follow at the McRoberts Cemetery.

     Robert Lee Polly, age 61, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 28, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital,Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on August 30, 1952 in Letcher County, Kentucky and lived most all of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He worked for Stuart Adams for a number ofyears at Adam Stone performing various jobs.  Mr. Polly was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who was very proud that he was able to serve his country, and was a member of AmericanLegion Post 66, Jenkins, Kentucky. 

   He was a son of the late Brose and Goldie Caudill Polly.  Mr. Polly was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Polly and Charles Ervin Polly. 

   Survivors include his three brothers, Allen Polly, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, Donald Polly, of Bill Moore Branch, Kentucky, and Glay Polly, of Shelby Gap, Kentucky; and ahost of other family and friends. 

   A memorial service will be held at a later date.

  Carl Potter, age 76, of Rogersville, Tennessee, formerly of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Wellmont Hospice CareCenter, Bristol, Tennessee.  He was born on October 8, 1937 at East Jenkins, Kentucky, and made his home here in Letcher County, Kentucky for several years. As a young man, Mr. Potter moved toWayne, Michigan where he worked for General Motors and had advanced to the position of Foreman where he remained employed for fourteen years. Mr. Potter returned home to the Jenkins area in 1976where he owned and operated several small businesses. He was a United States Air Force veteran, enlisting in 1956 with his twin brother, Carlos Potter.  Carl loved cooking, boating, fishing andwas of the Baptist faith. 

   He was a son of the late Roy Calvin& June Bryant Potter and was also preceded in death by two sons, Carl Potter, Jr. and Timmy Potter; his two brothers, Bobby Ray Potter & Carlos Potter; and a sister, Arlene Evans. 

   Survivors include five daughters,Darlene Vicars, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Diana Warner, of Canada, Arelene Denise Potter Cole, of Rogersville, Tennessee, Ardath Tena Lynn Potter Wallace, of Pound, Virginia, and Kozetta Kay VanoverSmith, of Michigan; one son, Edward Marvin Potter, of Michigan;  three sisters, Thelma Gahagan, of  Port St. Lucie, Florida, Linda Elkins,  of Hindman, Kentucky, and Nina Bentley, ofAshcamp, Kentucky; seven grandchildren;  eleven great grandchildren;  several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing.

   Visitation will be held on FridayJanuary 10, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Tom England and Ronnie Englandofficiating.  Interment will follow at Roy Potter Cemetery, Ashcamp, Kentucky. 

  Brandy Nicole Rose, age 35, of Newland, North Carolina, formerly of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 at the JohnsonCity Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee.  She was born on March 22, 1978 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and had lived most all of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Brandy was a mother,homemaker and caregiver for the elderly. She had recently fulfilled the necessary requirements to obtain her high school diplomacy and was very proud of her accomplishment.

   She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jack and Sarah Collier; and alo her paternal grandparents, Homer and Savannah Rose.

   Survivors include her parents, Richard “Wayne” Rose, of Neon, Kentucky and Alice “Delphie” Collier, of Newland, North Carolina; two daughters, BryleighShepard and Tynley Shepard, of Newland, North Carolina;  one son, Braedan Rose, of Newland, North Carolina; one sister, Angela Rose, of Neon, Kentucky; six brothers, Richard Rose, Jason Rose,Robert Buchanan and Dewayne Buchanan, all of Newland, North Carolina and Jody Rose and Dylan Rose of Neon, Kentucky; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives andfriends to mourn her passing.

   Visitation will be held on Thursday January 9, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Jeff Slone officiating.  Interment will follow at the Rose Family Cemetery, Haymond, Kentucky. 

  Michael Keith Bentley, age 55, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Whitesburg Appalachian RegionalHostpital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on April 22, 1958 in Jenkins, Kentucky, and was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Bentley was a certified heating, ventilation and airconditioning technician and worked for several large companies that required him to travel throughout the United States.  He worked privately in Letcher County where he had made his home for thelast ten years.  Mr. Bentley often made complimentary service calls to local residences for repairs, simply to make sure his neighbors and friends of the community had heating and cooling. He was a veteran of the United States Military.

   He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Bentley and one sister, Donna Ratliff.

   Survivors include his parents, Don and Jean Bentley, of Seco, Kentucky;  two daughters, Jessica (Jeff) Welch, of Chapsworth, Georgia, Melissa(Charles) Overby, of Dalton, Georgia;  one son, Josh Pigman, of Haymond, Kentucky; five grandchildren;  two sisters, Belinda Sturgill, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Teresa McCall, of Seco,Kentucky;  his close friend, Linda Hughes, of McRoberts, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 7, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel.  Funeral services will be held on WednesdayJanuary 8, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel with Lester Boggs officiating.  Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Ermine, Kentucky.
