    Joan Lavon Akers, age 42, of Jenkins, Kentucky passed from this life  on  December 31,2016 at her residence. She was born on August 24, 1974 in Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was a loving mother and enjoyed making crafts.  She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed foreverin the hearts of her family.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Shawn Caudill and her grandparents, Kernie Stewart and Ruth VanhooseStewart.

    Mrs. Akers is survived by her mother, Ruby Baker of Jenkins, Kentucky; one son, Kernie Dale Akers of Jenkins,Kentucky; one daughter, Autumn Lee Akers of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, Kyle Eugene Baker of West Liberty, Kentucky and David Ray Baker of Jenkins, Kentucky; one sister, Samantha Lynn Baker ofMount Sterling, Kentucky; along with a host of other family and many friends to mourn her passing.

   A memorial service is planned in the future, for Mrs. Aker, by her family.  Details will be announced at a later date.

 

  Phillip Allen Davidson ,age 76, of  Jenkins, Kentucky  passed from this life  on December 29, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, Kentucky. He was born on November 7, 1940 in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Denville C. Davidson and Katherine Orr Davidson.  Mr.Davidson was a veteran, who honorably served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a well-loved ball coach for many years and he had a wonderful sense of humor.

    Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Davidson Hanshaw.

   He is survived by his loving wife, Anita “Micky” Adkins Davidson, of almost fifty-five years; one daughter, Kathy Allene(Don) McCloy of Dandridge, Tennessee; one son, Richard Allen Davidson of Dandridge, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Brandon (Amber) McCloy, Jon Phillip (Chelsea) McCloy, Dylan (Kadi) Davidson andEmily (Aaron Goff) Davidson; six great grandchildren, Jordyn, Connor, Brylee, Boston, Ella and Ashton; a very special niece, Hershena (Chris) Stanley; along with other family and many friends tomourn his passing.

*Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 PM.

*Due to cemetery scheduling, friends & family will meet at the Jenkins funeral home at 1:00 PM on Wednesday to line-up forprocession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for  burial.

  Visitation will be held at the Polly & Craft Chapel in Jenkins, KY. on Sunday-January 1, 2017 from 6:00 PM to9:00 PM.  Military rites will be conducted on Monday-January 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel by the Pound Post of the VFW.  Mr. Davidson's funeral procession will line-up and begin at theChapel in Jenkins on Wednesday-January 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM and proceed to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Virginia for Burial.  Memorium will be conducted by friends andfamily.

   Clabe Edward Potter ,age 79, of  Neon, Kentucky  passed from this life  on  December 28,2016 at the Appalachain Regional Hospital of Whitesburg, Kentucky. He was born on November 12, 1937 in Hemphill, Kentucky to the late Morgan Potter and Virgie Hunter Potter. He was a member of Victory Temple Church and was a well-known mechanic.

    Mr. Potter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Niece   Potter.  They had been married foralmost  fifty-five years at the time of her passing.

   Mr. Potter was also preceded in death by one daughter, LaDonna Bentley; one son, Clabe Edward “Bug” Potter, Jr.; twobrothers, Norwood Potter and an infant brother, who was still-born. He was also preceded in death by one sister.

   Mr. Potter is survived by two daughters, Susie Fleming  of  Neon, Kentucky and Sherry (Bobby)Stamper of Thornton, Kentucky; one son, Casey Ray (Alfreda) Potter of New Hill, North Carolina; six brothers, Charles Eugene Potter of Jefferson City, Tennesse, Lee (Debbie) Potter of Lebanon,Virginia, William  McKinley (Janie) Potter of Birmingham, Alabama, James Morgan (Geraldine) Potter of Knobnoster, Missouri, Terry Wayne Potter of Kingsport, Tennessee,  Jeff (Michelle)Potter of Hemphill, Kentucky; four sisters, Minnie Faye Pratt of Newport, Tennessee, Wilma Jean Epifano of Thornville, Ohio, Vickie Lynn (Ken) Watts of Blackey, Kentucky and Regina (Mi ke) Wright ofErmine, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation for Mr. Potter will be held at the Carty Funeral Chapel in Neon, Kentucky on Friday-December 30, 2016 from 6 to 9 PM.  Funeral service for Mr. Potter will be conducted from the Chapel on Saturday-December 31, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Thomas, officiating.  Burial willfollow in the Haven Of Rest Cemetery at Mayking, Kentucky.

   Gary Charles Smith, age 39, ofJenkins, Kentucky passed away on December 19 , 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, Kentucky.  He was born on December 10, 1977 in Whitesburg, Kentucky to his parents, CharlesHenry Smith and Marieda Carol Esteppe  Smith of Neon, Kentucky.

   He is also survived by one daughter, Jasmine Elizabeth Smith of Jenkins, Kentucky; three brothers, Larry Allen Smith(Sabrina Collins) of Cromona, Kentucky, Ricky Lee (Barb) Smith of Fleming, Kentucky and Tommy Dean Smith of Neon, Kentucky; his fiance’, Sally Ann Childers of Jenkins, Kentucky; two nieces, HopeCarolAnn Smith and Ariana  Jacobs; three nephews, Larry Charles Smith, Caleb Jacobs and Zee Collins; five step-sons, Bruce, Paul, Sherman, Alex and Michael ; along with a host of other familyand many friends.

   Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM at the Seco Pentecostal Church of Seco, Kentucky on Friday-Decemeber 23, 2016. The funeral will begin at 12:00 Noon; with Pastor Ted Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Millstone Cemetery at Millstone, Kentucky.

   

   Lindsey Mae Sexton, age 78, of Jenkins, Kentucky passed from this life on Thursday- December 15, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on March 15, 1938 in Jenkins, Kentucky to thelate Dewey Sturgill, Sr. and Elsie Cooper Sturgill.

    Lindsey was also preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Kenneth Sexton; one daughter, Elizabeth GailKiser; three brothers, Martin Sturgill, Dewey Sturgill, Jr. and Jerry Douglas Sturgill; three sisters, Jeanette Reed, Lois Mills and Barbara Damron; one son-in-law, Johnny Hampton, Sr..

   She is survived by one daughter, Debra Jean Hampton (Jerry Mullins) of Bean Station, Tennessee; two sons, Michael Ray Sextonof Jenkins, Kentucky and Delbert (Mindy) Kiser of Jenkins, Kentucky; one brother, Terry (Phyllis) Sturgill of Vine Grove, Kentucky; two sisters, Sherry (Albert) Smith of Jenkins Kentucky and Dee(Leighton) Smith of Cornith, Kentucky.

   Mrs. Sexton is also survived by seven grandchildren, John  Kiser, Julie Grace Kiser, Albert “Bo” Smith and Stephen
Saylers; three great grandchildren, Nathan Ross, Isaiah Kiser and Peyton Salyers; also a host of other family and many friends.

   Lindsey was a strong, faithful Christian and a long- term member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. She devoted herselfto her family and her grandchildren were the love of her life. She spent the majority of her life keeping a warm and loving home.  Lindsey was the happiest with all of her family at her house,with their bellies full!

   Visitation will be held at the Polly & Craft Chapel in Jenkins, Kentucky from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday-December 17,2016 and Sunday-December 18, 2016.  Funeral service will be also from the Chapel on Monday-December 19, 2016  at 12:00 Noon.  Pastor Greg Polly, Rev. Wayne Keith and Bro. Bo Smithofficiating.  Burial will follow in the Fleming Family Cemetery in Jenkins, Kentucky.

 

     Howard Thompson, Jr. ,age84, of  Jenkins, Kentucky passed from this life  on  December 8, 2016 at his residence. He was born on November 16, 1932 in Cromona, Kentucky to the late Howard Thompson, Sr. andJessie Mae Mahone Thompson. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict; having served his country in the United States Army. He was an excellent handy-man, who seemed to be able to fix just aboutanything.  Mr. Thompson loved to fish and his pride and joy, in the latter part of his life, was traveling in his Lincoln Navigator to visit his family and friends.

     Besides his parents, Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by his first cousin, E. Marie Burgess.

    Mr. Thompson is survived by one aunt, Willie Pearl Young of Waldorf, Maryland; two first cousins, Michelle Y. (Oliver)Green of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Adrienne Young- (Keith) Battle of Bowie, Maryland; five second cousins, Shannon L. Maurice-Williams, Bryan Green, Evan M. Green, Brandon Battle and Aleah Battle;one third  cousin, Michaela Williams, and a host of family and many friends to mourn his passing.

   

   A future memorial service is also planned for Mr. Thompson on Memorial day, of 2017.

    Visitation for Mr. Thompson will be held on Thursday-December 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Polly & Craft FuneralChapel.  Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Steve Peakes officiating.  Burial will follow in the Upper Fleming Cemetery at Fleming-Neon, Kentucky.

 

     Marie “Mam” Reed, age 84, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, passedaway on December 8,  2016 at her daughter’s residence  in Wise, Virginia.  She was born on May  21, 1932 in Kona, Kentucky.  Marie was a member of the Payne Gap FreewillBaptist Church and was very dedicated to her family, as well. Marie also enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers.

   She was a daughter of the late Emmitt Kincer   and Victoria Craft Kincer.  She was also preceded in death byher husband of fifty years at his passing, James W. Reed; one brother, Walter Kincer; one sister-in-law, Billie Kincer; three sisters, Ella Newsome, Laverne Holbrook and Betty Ables.

   She is survived by one daughter, Vickie Hall of Wise, Virginia; one granddaughter, Shellie (Sammy) Elswick of Payne Gap,Kentucky; one great granddaughter, Reanna Elswick of Payne Gap, Kentucky; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Holbrook of Payne Gap, Kentucky and Roy Ables of Trotwood, Ohio. 

    Marie is also survived by her little dog, Yappy; along with a host of other family and many friends. 

     Visitation for Mrs. Reed will be held on Saturday-December 10, 2016 and Sunday-December 11, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Polly & CraftChapel in Jenkins, Kentucky; with Brother Hollis Bevins and Brother Luther Belcher officiating. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday-December 12, 2016 from the Chapel at 1:00 PM.  Burialwill follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery at Payne Gap, Kentucky.

 

        Samuel Potter ,age 87, of  Reynoldsburg, Ohio  passed from this life on  December 3, 2016 at the Mount Carmel East Hospital, of Columbus, Ohio. He was born on February 1, 1929 in Potter Town, Kentucky to the late Isaac Potter and Anna Little Potter. He wasa member of the Church of Christ for approximately sixty-five years. He worked as a coal miner for fourty-four years. 

    Mr. Potter married his late wife, Frankie Little Potter, on May 20, 1950.  They enjoyed sixty-four years ofmarriage together, until her passing on September 25, 2014.

   Mr. Potter was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Dana Lynn Johnson; one son-in-law, Glen Alton Johnson; fivebrothers, Conley Potter, Estill Potter, Rueben Potter, Charles Potter and Jack Potter; by one sister, Betty Lois Potter.

   Mr. Potter is survived by three daughters, Sharon Kaye Johnson of Virgie, Kentucky, Linda Ann (Teddy) Euman of  CanalWinchester,Ohio and Eunice Gaynell (Mark) Pape of Bowling Green, Kentucky; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends tomourn his passing.

    James W. “Jim” Poynter, age 63, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday - December 4, 2016 at hisresidence in Dunham, Kentucky.  He was born on November 15, 1953 in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Poynter honorably served his country in the United States Army.  He also worked many years as amining inspector for the Mine Saftey & Health Administration.  He also was a Chaplain for  both the Appalachain Regional Hospital and the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department.

     Jim was preceded in death by his  parents, James Wentifred Poynter, Sr. and Betty Penrod Poynter.; onegranddaughter, Leona Guard and his stepfather, Stewart L. Southworth.

   Jim  is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Cherry Iva Poynter; two daughters,  Betty C. Poynter ofFayetteville, North Carolina and Tiffinay Luna, of Kingsport, Tennessee; three sons, Michael R. (Rena Sweeney) Plumely of Lexington, Kentucky; Stuart (Pamela) Poynter of Dayton, Iowa and Brian K.(Natasha Meade) Plumley of Jenkins, Kentucky; one sister, Gwynn (Bruce) Whitaker of Owensboro, Kentucky; sixteen grandchildren  and a host of family and friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation for Mr. Poynter will be held at the Polly & Craft Chapel of Jenkins, Kentucky from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday-December 7, 2016. Funeral procession, led by varyious law enforcement agencies, will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday-December 8, 2016 from the Jenkins, KY.     Raymond James Bentley ,age 81, of Mayking, Kentucky passedfrom this life  on  December 4, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville, Kentucky. He was born on July 28 , 1935 in Deane, Kentucky to the late Ricahrd Broce Bentley and StellaYonts Bentley. He was a member of the McRoberts Church of Christ and served in the United States Army.

   He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Wanda Lee Bentley, Billie Jo Bentley and Norma Hall.

    Mr. Bentley is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Stella Yonts Bentley; one son, Raymond James BentleyJr; and one daughter Sherry (Tim) Shepherd of Knoxville, Tennessee; two granddaughters; Hannah Shepherd and Malia Shepherd and a host of family and many friends to mourn his passing.

     Visitation for Mr. Bentley will be held at the Carty Funeral Chapel of Neon, KY. on Wednesday-Decemeber 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with funeral servicebeginning at 12:00 Noon.  Burial will follow in the Riley Bentley Cemetery at Deane, Kentucky.  Pastor Chris Fleming officiating.

 

     Charles Glen Gallion ,age 90, of  Jenkins, Kentuckypassed from this life  on  November 28, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville Kentucky. He was born on August 6, 1926 in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Jim Gallion and MattieMullins Gallion. He was a Gospel Minister for over sixty- three years and a member of the Payne Gap Freewill Baptist Church. As a U.S.  W.W. II Veteran, he  served honourably in the UnitedStates Marine Corps. He was known by most people as “Slick” Gallion.

   He was also preceded in death by one son, Charles “Jeff” Gallion; six brothers and three sisters.

    Mr. Gallion is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Loretta Jo Mullins Gallion; one son, Roddy (Susan F.)Gallion of Jenkins, Kentucky; three daughters, Lana (William) Preston of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Ruth (George) Collins of Pikeville, Kentucky and JoNeil Gallion (Barry) Sanders of Lexington,Kentucky; one sister, Hazel Ratliff of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Carl “Jake” Gallion of Jenkins, Kentucky. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a host offamily and many friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation for Mr. Gallion will be held on Wednesday-November 30, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Payne Gap FreewillBaptist Church.  Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday-December 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Payne Gap Freewill Baptist Church with ministers, Brother Hollis Bevins and Brother LutherBelcher officiating.

 

 

     James Hobart "Jack"  Whitaker ,age 96, of  Payne Gap, Kentucky passed from this life on  November 21, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center of Pikeville Kentucky. He was born on February 4, 1920 in Payne Gap, Kentucky to the late John C. Whitaker and Vina Elizabeth RoseWhitaker. He was a member of the Payne Gap Freewill Baptist Church and was known by most people as “Jack” Whitaker.

   He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nona Johnson Whitaker;  two sons, Elbert Ray Whitaker and Jeffrey Whitaker;four brothers, Estes Whitaker, Bill Whitaker, Pat Whitaker and Marcus Whitaker; two sisters, Mae Reed and Valma Johnson.

    Mr. Whitaker is survived by one son, James Alvin (Shelia) Whitaker of Rising Sun, Maryland; three daughters, Sue Draganof Elkton Maryland, Brenda Lou (Robert) Johnson of Payne Gap, Kentucky and Judy (Danny) Clemons of Elkton, Maryland; two sisters, Caroline Mullins of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Wanda (Andrew) Wrightof Melvindale, Michigan; four brothers, Russell Whitaker of Payne Gap, Kentucky, Arcie (Ola Mae) Whitaker of Payne Gap, Kentucky, Chris Whitaker of Glen Burnie, Maryland and Clarence Whitaker ofBardstown, Ohio. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great-great granchildren and a host of family and friends to mourn his passing.

   Visitation will be held on Friday-November 25, 2016 at the Polly & Craft Chapel from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for the public. Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel on Saturday-November 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Hollis Blevins officiating.  Burial will follow at the Whitaker Cemetery in Payne Gap,Kentucky.

    

 

    Reba Jeanette Bentley, age 85, of Burdine, Kentucky,        passed away on November 20, 2016 at the Appalachain Regional Hospital of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on January 6, 1931 in Burdine,Kentucky to the late William Iru Depriest and Lillian Bell DePriest. Jeanette was a life-long resident of Jenkins, Kentucky, and she was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church forsixty-seven years. She also taught Sunday school for thirty plus years. She enjoyed attending church, crocheting, and tending to her many flowers and  fruit trees; as well as,  spendingtime at the lake in Tennessee.

    Mrs. Bentley was also preceded in death  by her husband of sixty-five years, Palmer Bentley Jr.; one son, KennethWayne Bentley; two brothers, Ansel DePriest and William Ralph DePriest;  one sister Mildred DePriest; one infant grandson, Scott Andrew Mullins and one son-in-law, Johnny Ray Mullins. 

   Mrs. Bentley is survived by her two sons, Gregory(Gemma)Palmer Bentley and Keith(Tonya) Bentley; one daughter, Sherry MullinsBentley; all of Payne Gap, Kentucky and also. one sister, Marie Vicars of Burdine, Kentucky.

   She is also survived by three granddaughters:  Leslie Bentley, Pamela Bentley and Keiley Shayelle Bentley;  twograndsons, William Kole Bentley and Klint Daniel Bentley; two great granddaughters, Courtney Lynn Mullins and Laikyn Bentley; one great grandson, Lucas Keith Bentley; one stepgrandson, Tyler; onestepgranddaughter, Shyanne and a special little buddy, Chance; along with a host of family and many friends to mourn her passing.

   Visitation is to be held on Tuesday-November 22, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral Service for Mrs. Bentley will beconducted at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church on Wednesday-November 23,2016 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Greg Polly officiating.  Burial will follow in the Jenkins/Payne Gap Cemetery at Payne Gap,Kentucky.

 

   Deborah Allene Mays, age 54, of Jenkins, Kentucky passed away onNovember 12, 2016 at her residence in Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was born on March 25, 1962 in Fleming, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Deborah was awonderful  mother, sister and grandmother. She also loved the outdoors  and was a very friendly, well-liked person.

   She was the oldest daughter of the late William H. “Tommy” Mays and Nannie Faye Webb Mays. Debbie was also preceded indeath by two twin grandsons, Jaden and Jaggur Mays.

   She is survived by her life partner, Wayne Cole of Jenkins, Kentucky; one daughter, Angela Mays  of Louisville,Kentucky; two sisters Sandra Brown(Alfred Honeycutt) of Jenkins, Melissa (Jess) Estrada of Hinesville, Georgia;  three grandsons, Michael Mays, Christian Helton, and Ashton Bates; one nephew,Alfred Honeycutt; three nieces, Jelissa Estrada, Alysia Estrada and Marissa Estrada. Deborah also leaves a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.    

Funeral service was held Saturday-November 19, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Polly & Craft Chapel in Jenkins, Kentucky with Pastor Jeff Slone officiating. Burial was in the Haven Of Rest Cemetery at Mayking, Kentucky.

 

 Reba Mae Greene, age 77, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, passed away on November12, 2016 at the Appalachain Regional Hospital in Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on February 9, 1939 in Neon, Kentucky.  Reba was a member of the Hemphill Baptist Church for fifty-twoyears. She enjoyed being a devoted Christian, mother and grandmother. 

   She was a daughter of the late John Potter   and Rosie Tolliver Potter.  She was also preceded in death byher husband, John Martin Greene; one son, Greg Hall; one great grandson, Jacoby Mullins; four brothers, George Potter, Sam Potter, James Potter and Daniel Potter; two sisters, Willie Jean Potter andColleen Potter.

   She is survived by two daughters, Shanda (Byron) Carter of Whitesburg, Kentucky and Martina (Josh) Yonts of Jenkins,Kentucky; two sons, Randy (Carolyn) Potter of Burdine, Kentucky and Eddie (Katrena) Hall of Jenkins, Kentucky; a special son, Alex Williams; two sisters, Betty Bentley of Jackhorn, Kentucky andPhyllis Bentley of Alabama; one brother, Melvin Potter of Pennsylvania.

    Reba also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren; along with a host of other family and friends.

   Funeral service was held on Tuesday-November 15, 2016 at the Hemphill Baptist Church at 1:00PM with PastorDanny Hurst officiating.  Burial was at the Ruben Potter Cemetery in Jackhorn, Kentucky.

 

   Nina Dostson, age 93, of  Shelbyville, Kentucky, passed awayon Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville in Shelbyville, Kentucky.  She was born on June 27, 1923 in Pound, Virginia to the late Frank and Savannah Adams.  Mrs.Dotson was a  member of the Simpsonville Baptist Church and of the Eastern Star.  

   Mrs. Dotson was married  to the late Eskie Dotson for forty-eight years.   She was also preceded in death bytwo brothers, Royce Adams and Tollie Adams; four sisters, Lona Reynolds, Clara Boggs, Myrtle Boyd and Maude Wilson.

   Mrs. Dotson is survived by three sons , Roger (Barbara) Dotson of Salvisa, Kentucky, Eskie Dotson of Birmingham, Alabamaand Daniel Dotson of Jenkins, Kentucky; one daughter, Janet (Bill) Robertson of Finchville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jeff Dotson, Stephanie Dotson, Kris Dotson, Steven Dotson, Cameron Dotson andPaige Rogers ;  three great-great grandchildren, Woodford Rogers, Sophia Rogers and Jack Dotson. She is also survived by a host of family and many friends.

   Graveside service and burial was held for Mrs. Dotson on Sunday-October 30, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Powell Valley MemorialGardens in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

 

     Charlotte Louise Potter, age 94, of  Burdine, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday November2, 2016 at her daughter, Patricia’s, residence in Burdine, Kentucky.  She was born on November 12, 1921 in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Nathaniel Jackson Adams and Sena Elizabeth FranciscoAdams.  Mrs. Potter  was a faithful seventy-eight year member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church, a charter member of the Burdine Ladie’s Auxillary and a member of the EasternStar.  She was the daughter of the late Julius and Elizabeth Barker. 

   Mrs. Potter was married for seventeen years to the late Paul Sweeton.  After his passing, she was married to the lateAllison Potter for twenty-three years.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul James Sweeton and Roger Carl Sweeton; one grandson-in-law, Tony Stanley and one grandchild, Michelle LynnBaker.

   Mrs. Potter is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Paul) Baker of Burdine,Kentucky; one granddaughter, Nancy Louise Stanley; two great grandchildren, Dustin Paul (Melissa) Wright and Christopher Allison Wright; two great-great grandchildren, Mason Kyler and Jackson RileyWright.  She is also survived by a host of family and many friends.

   Funeral Service for Mrs. Potter was held at 1:00 PM on Sunday-November 6,2016  at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Polly and Reverend Tommy England officiating.  Burial was at the Potter Family Cemetery in Ashcamp,Kentucky.

 

   Donald Ray Yonts , age 77, of  Goose Creek, Kentucky passedfrom this life  on  October  16, 2016 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was born on November 30, 1938 in Neon, Kentucky to the late William McKinleyYonts  and Ruth Kidd Yonts.

   He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sandy Ruth Yonts; five brothers and four sisters.

    Mr. Yonts is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Rae Yonts, of  57 years. He is also survived by one daughter,April Kay (George) Elkins of  Payne Gap, Kentucky;  one brother, David (Annette) Yonts, of Goose Creek, Kentucky. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and ahost of family and friends to mourn his passing.

    Mr. Yonts was a skilled carpenter by trade.  He was also a loyal member of the Church of Christ, located inGoose Creek.

   Funeral service for Mr. Yonts was conducted at the Goose Creek Church of Christ at 11:00 AM on Thursday-October 20, 2016with Pastor Kenneth Holbrook and Kenneth Holbrook, Jr. officiating.  Burial was at the Collier Family Cemetery in Goose Creek, Kentucky.

 

    Billie Jean Short, age 79, of  Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on October 29, 2016 at herresidence in Jackhorn, Kentucky.  She was born on August 9, 1937 in Etty, Kentucky to the late Clifton Meade and Elsie Stewart Meade.  Mrs. Short was a member of the Church of Christ forover forty years. She shared a love for listening to bluegrass music; as does her brother, Everett. She also  enjoyed going to church and spending time with her family and friends.  Thegreat joy of her life was her grandchildren.

    She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Short.; one brother, James Meade and one  sister, BrendaFields.

   Mrs. Short is survived by:  one son, Arthur (Stephanie) Short of Jackhorn, Kentucky; one daughter, Glenda (Rob) Flemingof Jackhorn, Kentucky; five brothers: Everett Meade of Deane, Kentucky, Coy (Bernice) Meade of Deane, Kentucky, Claude Meade of Deane, Kentucky, Gary (Dorothy) Meade of Virgie, Kentucky and Denver(Julie) Meade of Deane, Kentucky; two sisters, Mary Sexton of Jackhorn, Kentucky and Janet (Sammy) Baker of Haymond, Kentucky.

   She is also survived by three grandchildren:  Amanda, Patrick and Baileigh;  along with a host of family and manyfriends to mourn her passing. 

   Funeral service for Mrs. Short was held at the Neon Church of Christ at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday-November 2, 2016 with BradTaylor and Johnny King officiating.  Burial was at the Meade Family Cemetery at Deane, Kentucky. 

 

 

   Elsie Marie Ratliff, age 55, of Cromona, Kentucky passed away onOctober 31, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center.  She was born on June 30, 1961 in Pikeville , Kentucky.  Elsie was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. 

   She was a daughter of the late Bertley E. Mullins and Daisy Marie Blevins Mullins.  Elsie was also preceded in deathby a brother, Ronnie Mullins .

   She is survived by her husband, Rickey Ratliff of Cromona, Kentucky; two daughters, Valerie Renee Taylor  ofMillstone, Kentucky and Erica Montana Sexton of Cromona, Kentucky; two sons, Scotty Ray Goodman and Alex Lee Fleming both of Cromona, Kentucky;  five sisters, Connie Mullins of Cromona, KY,Lucille Little of Hellier, KY, Patricia Johnson and Arlene Stewart both of Hemphill, KY, Amanda Bentley of Deane, KY; four brothers, Emory”Fudge” Mullins of Neon KY, Larry Mullins of Vance, KY,Thomas Jake Mulllins and Daniel Mullins both of Cromona, KY; also four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a special little girl, Betty Whitaker, whom Elsie loved dearly and a host of familyand friends to mourn her passing.

   Funeral service for Mrs. Ratliff was held at 1:00 PM on Friday-November 4, 2016 at the Neon Church of God with PastorFreddy Johnson officiating.  Burial was at the Mullins Family Cemetery in Cromona, Kentucky.   

 

  Elva Brown, age 80, of Mayking, Kentucky, passed away on October 18, 2016 at her residence in Mayking,Kentucky.  She was born on February 15, 1936 in Dongola, Kentucky to the late Riley Miles and Clarenda Fields Miles.  Elva was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother.

     She was preceded in death by her spouse,  Raymond Ellis Brown and by  three brothers.

   Other than by her parents, Mrs. Brown is survived by her two sons, Ricky (Heidi) Brown   and Teddy  Roy Brown all of Whitesburg, Kentucky ,three grandchildren, Rikki (Jake)Nicole Bailey, Terrance (Tinisha) Kolby Brown, Jason (Misty) Myles Brown;  four great  grandchildren,  JuneMarie Brown., Sydney Madison Brown, Gracey Brown, Jason Brown Jr.; also two step grandchildren, Caleb Martin, and Jacob Martin.

   Funeral Service was held at the New Freedom Worship Center in Jenkins, Kentucky on Saturday-October 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM;with Pastor Danny Quillen officiating.  Burial was at the Brown Family Cemetery in Mayking, Kentucky.

 

 

   Hazel Marie Meade, age 83, of Fleming - Neon, Kentucky, passed awayon October 3, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on September 3, 1933 in Doran, Virginia to the late Charles Harmon and Bertha Mae Riggs Harmon. Uponthe death of her parents,  Mrs. Meade was raised by her aunt and uncle( the late Jack and Odessa Hounshell).

    She was  preceded in death also by one son, Archie Curtis Meade; one daughter, Emmazetta Meade; one brother, RaySnyder and  two sisters: Mabel Stokes and  Alma Harmon(who passed as an infant).

   Mrs. Meade is survived by her loving husband, Archie C. Meade; two daugthers: Jolynda Bailey of Lancaster, KY. and MarcieBrooks (Lonnie), of East Stone Gap, VA.

   She is also survived by three grandchildren:  Andrew(Ashley) Meade-Greenwood, IN,  Spencer Brooks and StanleyBrooks of East Stone Gap, VA . and  one great grandchild, Riley Meade.  

   Funeral Service was held at the Carty Funeral Chapel in Neon, Kentucky at 2:00PM on Wednesday-October 5, 2016 with PastorMark Wagoner officiating.  Burial was in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky.

 

   Molly Ann Sturgill, age 80, of  Jenkins, Kentucky, passed awayon September 15, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on August 13, 1936 in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Worley Hodges and Tiva Patrell Hodges.  Mrs.Sturgill was a member of the Saint George’s Catholic Church of Jenkins. She enjoyed baking, sewing and playing her keyboard piano.

    She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Sturgill, Jr.; a son, Mark Joseph Sturgill and two brothers,Frank Hodges and Victor Hodges.

   Mrs. Sturgill is survived by a son, David Sturgill (Cora Fleming) of Wise, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Sturgill ofJenkins, Kentucky; one brother, Worley J. (Nancy) Hodges of Mooresville, North Carolina; two sisters, Fanchon Collins of Daytona Beach, Florida and Rhonda Carty of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

   She is also survived by four grandchildren:  Gabriel, Caleb, Tadan and Caden;  along with a host of family andmany friends to mourn her passing.

   Thurman Wright , age 87, of  Jenkins, Kentucky passed fromthis life  on  September  12, 2016 at  his residence. He was born on April 23, 1929 in Cromona, Kentucky to the late Luther Wright and Allie Anderson Wright.

   He was preceded in death by four sisters:  Theda Tackett, Illee Fleming, Nava Jo Johnson and Ann Cable; sevenbrothers: Ray Wright, Roy Wright, Glenn Wright, Ernest Wright, Claude Wright, B.L. Wright and Billy Wayne Wright.

    Mr. Wright is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Wright, of  62 years. He is also survived by one daughter,Sharon (Gary) Johnson of  Virgie, Ky.; one son, Thurman (Marsha) Wright Jr., of  Meadowview Va.; one brother, Allen (Dana) Wright, of Hiawassee, Georgia. He is also survived by fourgrandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of family and friends to mourn his passing.

    Mr. Wright was a fifty year member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge #856. He was also a  forty-one year member ofthe Eastern Star and a member of the Elkhorn Shrine Club. He enjoyed a forty-four year career as a coal miner.

   Funeral service was held at Polly & Craft Chapel in Jenkins, Kentucky at 11:00 AM on Thursday-September 15, 2016 with Pastor Danny Hurst and PastorVan Webb officiating.  Burial was in the Payne Gap Cemetery at Payne Gap, Kentucky.

 

      Alka Murray, age 92, of  Ridgeway Nursingand Rehabilitation Facility of Owingsville, KY; (formerly of Jenkins, KY.) passed from this life  on September 6,  2016.  She was born in Shelby Gap, Kentucky.  She was a memberof the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

    Alka was the daughter of the late Quincy and Clementine Bryant Little.  She was preceded in death by herhusband, Ocie Murray;   a son: Asa Robert Adkins; stepsons, Tommy Murray (Annabelle) and Dean Murray; a grandson, Christopher Adkins; a sister, Georgia Belle Helton and a brother, JackDempsey Little.

    She is survived by  a son, Palmer Adkins(Sandra) of Morehead, KY; two stepsons, Jim Murray of Columbus, OH. AndOcie Murray Jr. “Dean” (Haddie) of Lebanon, VA; a stepdaughter, Barbara Boyd (Guy) of Bristol, VA..  “Mamma” is survived by thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and fourgreat-great grandchildren, along with a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

 

   The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility for the gentle loving care andsupport to Mom over the years.

    Belinda Sturgill, age 51, of Seco, Kentucky, passed away on September 4, 2016 at the University ofKentucky Medical Center of Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on December 29, 1964 in Covington, Kentucky to Don Bentley and Jean Pease Bentley.  Belinda was a dedicated Christian and agifted gospel singer. She also loved to read.

     She was preceded in death by one brother,  Michael Keith Bentley and by one sister, Donna JeanRatliff.

   Other than by her parents, Mrs. Sturgill is survived by her husband, Richard Allen Sturgill; her son, Ricky(Miranda)Sturgill of Thornton, Kentucky and by her daughter, Melanie(Brandon) Johnson of Whitaker, Kentucky; one sister, Teresa Ann McCall of Seco, Kentucky.  She is also survived by  fivegrandchildren and a host of family and friends.

   Funeral service for Mrs. Sturgill was held at New Freedom Worship Center at Dunham, Kentucky at 11:00 AM onFriday-September 9, 2016 with Pastor Danny Quillen officiating.  Burial was in the Quillen Family Cemetery in Whitaker, Kentucky.

 

 

    Timbrook ‘Tim’ Collins, age 86, of Dorton, Kentucky, passed away on August  30, 2016 at hisresidence with his loving wife by his side.  He was born on August 23, 1930  at Jenkins, Kentucky to the late William Thornton Collins and Kate Hollifield Collins.

   Mr. Collins was a 34 year-member of the People’s Fundamental Baptist Church in Dunham, Kentucky; where he served as aDeacon.  He was affectionately known as ‘Candy Man’, due to his loving to hand out candy;  especially to the children.  Mr. Collins was also a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and he  later retired from the Peabody Coal Company.

   Mr. Collins   was  preceded in death  by:  a son,  Steven Osborne;  a grandson, CoreyRay Collins;  a brother, Denver Odell Collins and a sister,  Judy Carol Collins.  

   He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Collins, of Dorton, Kentucky.  He is also survived by two sons: Timbrook‘Big Tim’ (Jamie) Collins Jr. of Farmersville, Illinois. and Neil (Noreen) Collins of New York; one daughter, Kathy (Keith) Hollifield of Marion, Alabama.; three sisters:   Stella Swansonof Michigan., Bonda Ogara of Indiana. and Patsy Jean Hall of Michigan. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren;  along with a host of family andfriends.

  

 

      Ruby Kathryn McPeeks, age 65, of Burdine,Kentucky, passed away on August 18, 2016 at the Appalachain Regional Hospital of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on March 20, 1951 in Seco, Kentucky to the late James McPeeks  andLovell Adams.  Ruby lived most of her life in Letcher County.

     She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

   Ms. McPeeks is survived by her children:  Kathy and Chris; her grandchildren:  Kathlena, Reggie,Jessica(Bradley), Austin, Dakota, Cheyenna and Chris; as well as, fifteen great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Shelby Seals and her name-sake, Kathryn Ison.

    Linda Sue Thompson, age 50, of Whitesburg, Kentucky, passedaway on August 18, 2016 at the Pikeville  Medical Center of Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on June 24, 1966 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Russell Thompson and Ruth CookThompson. Linda enjoyed sewing and hunting.

     She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Rusty Thompson and Johnny Thompson;  one sister, RuthHogg.

   Ms. Thompson is survived by her life partner, Curtis Absher of Whitesburg, KY.; two sons: Curtis(Briauna) Thompson andBilly(April) Thompson, both of Whitesburg, KY.; two granddaughters:  Aubreigh Thompson and Annabell Thompson. She is also survived by two brothers: Charles(Melanie) Ison of Whitesburg, KY. and Lyle(Linda) Thompson, of Atlanta, GA.; three sisters: Donna Thompson, Mary Hall and Geraldine Ison; all of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  Linda will also be missed by a host of other family andfriends.

    Easter Potter Cantrell, age 95, of  Indianapolis, Indiana,passed from this life  on Sunday August 14, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Novella Brewer,  in Vermilion, Ohio.  She was born on April 8, 1921 in Pike County, Kentucky to the lateIra B. Potter  and Kate Johnson Potter.

    She was preceded in death by her husband:  James Allen Cantrell;  a son: James Allen Cantrell, Jr.; adaughter:  Kate Caldwell Jones and two grandsons: Wesley Michael Vaught  and Cristopher Adam Cantrell, Jr.

    Mrs. Cantrell is survived by three sons:  Roy H.  Cantrell of Cleveland, TN., Auldin B. Cantrell of Dayton,OH. and Michael D. Cantrell of Cleveland, TN.; three daughters:  Dora L. Duncan of Jenkins, KY., Zetta Vaught Stein of Lillian, AL. and Novella Louise Brewer of Vermilion, OH.. She is alsosurvived by twenty grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.  Mrs. Cantrell also leaves behind a host of family and many friends, who will greatly missher.

   Easter was a true Proverbs 31:(vs. 10-31) woman. …. She opened her arms to the poor…watched over her household and does noteat the bread of idleness…. Her children arise and call her blessed.

   Louie Francis Meeks, age 100, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed awayon Sunday July 31, 2016 at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on March 21, 1916 in Palmer, Tennessee to the late Robert  and Savannah Sanders Meeks. Louielived most of his life in Letcher County, KY. Mr. Meeks was a long-time member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sadie Meeks,who was the love of his life ; hisdaughter, Nina Polly, and he was the last of his siblings to pass away.

   Mr. Meeks is survived by his son, Charles(Margaret) Meeks, of Springfield, OH.;  his daughter, Nevida(Jim) Spears, ofVersailles, KY.; six grandchildren(including his special buddy, Sean) and ten great-grandchildren.

   The Meeks family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Matthew Gooch and his staff along with the Letcher ManorNursing Home and staff.  Also they wish to thank Louie’s friends, known as the front-porch gang, and his wonderful neighbors:  James and Celeste Johnson, Delbert and Annetta Anderson, his care-giver, Janet Hill and his special close friends: Bill Blair and Fred Young.

   Darnillia Kay Sanders, age 64, of Haymond, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday July 21, 2016 at the WhitesburgAppalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on September 15, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland and lived most of her life there until making her home in Haymond, Kentucky for the last eight years.  Mrs. Sanders  worked many years in Baltimore before becoming disabled. She also loved spending time with her family and friends and was a member ofHenry Brecht Chapter 43 Order of the Eastern Star, for many years. Mrs. Sanders was of the Christian faith.

 

Darnillia was a daughter of the late Chester and Ruth E. Mullins Stewart.

 

   Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Danny Lynn Sanders, Haymond, Kentucky; one daughter, Chantel Vancouyghen (Phillip)of Baltimore, Maryland; one son, Mark Steven Taylor (Kandra) of Sparrows Point, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Mariah, Madison, Kristen, Autumn, Destiny, Austin & Gavin; and  a host of otherfamily and friends.

     Phyllis Ann Johnson, age 81, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away on July 11, 2016 at theAppalachain Regional Hospital of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on December 16, 1934 in Seco, Kentucky and spent most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Johnson attended theMcRoberts Church of Christ.

   Phyllis   was  married to the late, Morgan Luther Johnson.  She is thedaughter  of the late Emanuel and Martha Sieber- Boyd.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ray Boyd and her sister, Geraldine Mullins.

   Ms. Johnson is survived by her son, Travis Johnson, of Louisville, Kentucky and her daughter, Palma(Chris) Fleming, ofJackhorn, Kentucky; two grandchildren:  Philip(Polly) Fleming, of Kings Mountain, North Carolina  and Amber(Mike) Fields, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; one great-grandchild, BellamieFleming ; one sister, Elizabeth “Tincy” Ward, of Versailles, Kentucky.   Also she leaves behind a little fat dog and a host of relatives and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 13, 2016 and Thursday July 14, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Carty Funeral HomesNeon Chapel, Neon, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be held on Friday July 15, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Johnny Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Haven of RestCemetery, Mayking, Kentucky. 

 

    Thomas Alex Lockwood, age 70, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on Monday June 27, 2016 at hisresidence.  He was born on April 25, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and lived most of his life in Jenkins.  Mr.    was the son of the late Richard and EstherLockwood.  He  was preceded in death by his brother:  Richard Lockwood Jr. and two sisters:  Kay Hill and Shirley Cahlik.

   Mr. Lockwood is survived by his loving wife of over forty three years, Alice Rose Lockwood; twodaughters: Abigail Melissa Lockwood, of Frankfort,KY. and Amy Michelle Lockwood(Bobby Stidham Jr), of Pound, VA.. He is also survived by three grandsons:  Alex Hiatt, LoganHampton and Chase Hampton; three granddaughters:  Hope Stidham, Brook Hampton and Sophia Hampton  and five great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host offamily and friends to mourn his passing.

   Family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

 

  Barbara Ellen Sturgill Damron, age 79, of  Nichollasville, Kentucky; formerly of Dorton,KY.,passed from this life on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Central Baptist Hospital of Lexington, Kentucky.  She was born on September 14, 1936 in Jenkins, KY., where she lived much of herlife.  She was the daughter of the late Admiral Dewey “Skinny” Sturgill and Elsie Ellen Cooper Sturgill.  Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Damron on July 3, 1994and one daughter, Deandrea Lynn, on May 13, 1975.  She was also preceded in death by two sisters:  Jeanette Reid of Detroit, MI and Lois Mills of Coeburn, VA; three brothers:Dewey Sturgill, Jr. of Jenkins, KY, Jerry Douglas Sturgill of Jenkins and Martin Tase Sturgill of Fort Campbell, TN.

   She is survived by one daughter: Teresa Ellen Damron Collins of Jenkins; three sons: Stephen Douglas “Steve”Damron of Jenkins, KY; Kevin Fred (Darlene) Damron of Nicholasville, KY and Keith Robin (Donna) Damron of Nicholasville, KY.

   She had nine grandchildren: Kristi, Adam, Brad, Ashley, Aaron, Anthony, Makayla, Alexis andKennedy;  five great-grandchildren: Ally, Kassidy, Preston, Savannah and Easton; three sisters: Lindsey Mae Sexton of Jenkins, KY., Elsie Dee Smith of Corinth, KY., Sherry Ann Smith ofJenkins, KY and her brother, Terry Truman Sturgill of Vine Grove, KY. She leaves an abundance of nieces, nephews and friends.

   Barbara was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Nicholassville, KY. and she was formerly a member ofGrace Baptist Church  of Shelbiana, KY.  Barbara was a retired LPN, of Pikeville Methodist Hospital in Pikeville, KY.  Barbara “Wife, Mom, Mamaw, Granny, Sister, Auntand Daughter” was a great woman dedicated to her family and faith.  She taught others:  to know and serve God, how to enjoy and appreciate life, and continual thankfulness, evenduring difficult times. She was an inspiration to all and exemplified courage, knowledge, wisdom, tolerance, patience, strength and infinite love.  She is now in heaven holding Deandrea anddancing with Fred (Daddy). Let us rejoice that the Lord has gained a great Angel.  Barbara lived 2 Timothy 4:7-“I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course: I have kept thefaith.”  She is loved and will be missed by all, who knew her.

    Ruth Barker Fulton, age 93, of Hemphill, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday  June5, 2016 at Letcher Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on May 29, 1923 in Etowa, Tennessee and lived the last 23 years of her life inHemphill.  Mrs. Fulton also worked as a book-keeper prior to becoming a full-time housewife.  She spent countless hours making hundreds of blankets, booties and headscarfs forthose in need.  Mrs. Fulton was the daughter of the late Julius and Elizabeth Barker.  She was preceded in death by her brothers:  Cecil, George and Howard; also hersister, Bonnie.

   She was married for over sixty two years to the late Walter Daniel Fulton.  Mrs. Fulton is survived bythree sons: Julius McDaniel Fulton(Patsy), Richard Lee Fulton(Emmi Fe) and Robert Daniel Fulton; all of Nashville, TN.  She is also survived by three grandchildren:  Tonya,Brandy and Samantha;  and three great grandchildren:  Rhiannon, Michael and Olivia.  A host of family and friends.

   Georgia Bell Helton, age 91, of  Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away on June 6, 2016 at herresidence in Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was born on September 29, 1924 in Shelbiana, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Helton was a member of the BurdineFreewill Baptist Church for over fifty years.

   Georgia was a daughter of the late Quincy Little and Clementine Bryant Little.  She was also preceded indeath by  her husband, Gardner Helton; a daughter, Rita Helton; a grandson, Triston Lafe Mullins and a brother, Jack Little.

    Ms. Helton is survived by a daughter, Rissie (Lowell) Mullins of Lexington, Kentucky; one grandaughter,Kimberly; two great-grandchildren:  Gina Marie and Josh; a great-great grandaughter, Emily;  one  sister, Alka Murray, of Morehead, Kentucky, other family and manyfriends.

  Linda Louise Jenkins, age 70, of Dunham, Kentucky, passed away on May 30, 2016 at her sistersresidence in Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was born on May 8, 1946 in Jenkins, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Jenkins, Kentucky.  Ms. Jenkins  worked many years as an AvonRepresenative. She also loved spending time with her famiy and friends and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church.

   Linda was a daughter of the late Ray Edward and Edith Ellis Stallard. She was also preceded in deathby  her husband, Judson Jenkins, Jr., her  brothers, James Stallard and his infant twin brother Ray Stallard.

   Ms. Jenkins is survived by three daughters, Tracie Paratchek (Ken) of Florence, Kentucky, TammyJenkins (Wayne Vanover), of Jenkins, Kentucky & Tarren Jenkins, of Jenkins, Kentucky;  six grandchildren, Kyla Paratchek, of Lexington, Kentucky, Kevin Paratchek, of Richmond, Kentucky,Kathryn Mills, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Johnathan Jenkins, of Jenkins, Kentucky, Lindsay Hope Vanover, of Jenkins, Kentucky & Landen Jenkins, of Jenkins, Kentucky; one great-grandaughter, HollisMogan, of Lexington, Kentucky & another one on the way; one sister, Alice Johnson (Michael), of Jenkins, Kentucky; one brother, Roger Stallard (Joan), of Morristown, Tennessee.  Severalnieces & nephews and  a host of other family and friends.

   Lelar R. Baldwin, age 88, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away on May 28, 2016 at Parkview Manor NursingHome, Pikeville, Kentucky.  She was born on August 25, 1927 in Dungannon,Virginia and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms. Baldwin worked for over forty years as adietician at Jenkins Community Hospital in Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was a very low profile person who carried a very strong work ethic. She also loved cooking and spending time with her famiy andfriends.

   Lelar was a daughter of the late H.P. and Myrtle V. Castle- Baldwin. She was also preceded in death by a daughter,Dianaha Christianson;  three sisters: Ina Mae Baldwin, Nancy Baldwin & Linda Baldwin; four brothers: Carson Baldwin, Bill Baldwin, Jr., Coy Baldwin & RolieBaldwin.

   Ms. Baldwin is survived by her son, Kyle (Jo Ann) Baldwin, of Jenkins, Kentucky; fivegrandchildren:  Lori, Scott, Mark, Christopher & William “Bucky”; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Beutler, of Ottowa, Ohio; four brothers: Alfo Baldwin, of Montague,California, Glenn Baldwin, of Pound, Virginia, Shade Baldwin, of Burdine, Kentucky & Avis Baldwin, of Virgie, Kentucky. Several nieces & nephews and  a host of other family andfriends.

  Norma Jean McHone Huff, age85, of Neon Kentucky, passed away on April 30 , 2016 at Lake Cumberland Medical Center, Somerset, Kentucky. She was born on April 22, 1931 in Millstone, Kentucky.  Norma was a homemaker,who was of the Christian Faith.

   She was a daughter of the late Claude Lee McHone and Mammie Cowan McHone.  Norma was also preceded in deathby her husband, Clyde Huff, Jr.; a son, Jimmy Donald Huff; a brother, Claude McHone, Jr.; and three sisters, Geraldine Gibson, Billie M. DeSimone and Charlsie Sergent. 

   She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Dawn Pigman (Doug), of Eubank, Kentucky; threegrandchildren, Stacy Pigman, of Eubank, Kentucky, Kevin Pigman and Vanessa Lanigan (Doug), both of Somerset, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren, Owen Pigman, Emily Pigman, Adam Pigman, Dustin Laniganand Luke Lanigan, all of Somerset, Kentucky; a sister, Carrie Wright, of Wyandotte, Michigan; a brother, George McHone (Pat), of Millstone, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of otherfamily and friends.

   Harold Bryant, age 89, passed away on May 16, 2016 at home in his bed in the room where he wasborn.  He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Barbara; children, Kay (Dennis), Marsha (Marvin) and Bill (Becky); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

   He was a good man, a Freemason and a World War II Veteran.  He attended the Burdine Freewill BaptistChurch.  His family will hold a homegoing celebration in Wyoming at a future date. 

   Lydia Faye Bentley, age 42, of Millstone, Kentucky, passed away on May 7, 2016 at WhitesburgAppalachian Regional Hospital.  She was born on May 17, 1973 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Lydia worked for several years as awaitress.  She was baptized at Millstone Methodist Church and attended New Beginnings Church in Neon. 

   Lydia was a daughter of the late Connie Duty and a granddaughter of the late Lydia Granny Duty.   She wasalso preceded in death by two uncles, Roger Duty and Randy Duty. 

   Lydia is survived by her former husband, Roy Bentley, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a son, Samuel Bentley, of Payne Gap,Kentucky; two daughters, Abigail P. Bentley and Arianna N. Bentley, both of Payne Gap, Kentucky; two sisters, Alvena Sexton, of Millstone, Kentucky and Jennifer Ross, of Ermine, Kentucky; two aunts,Corinne Evans and Carol Weaver, both of Millstone, Kentucky; two uncles, Ronald Duty, of Cromona, Kentucky, and Robert Cornett, of Whitesburg, Kentucky; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Jeramie Wayne McFall,age 36, of Neon, Kentucky passed away on April 26, 2016 at his home.  He was born on January 26, 1980 in Whitesburg, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. Jeramie was of the Pentecostal Faith.

   He is preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Stewart McFall; three brothers, Nathan Wayne McFall, Payton Gage McFalland Aidan Wayne McFall; and three infant brothers, Howard McFall, Donnie McFall and Bobby McFall.

   Ida Mae Welch Allen, age 89, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on April 18, 2016 at WhitesburgAppalchian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born on June 29, 1926 in Haymond, Kentucky.  Ida worked as a secretary for Westinghouse Electric Corporation fornumerous years.  She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Faith for many years. 

   Ida was a daughter of the late R.H. Welch and Birtie Hubbard Welch.  She was also preceded in death byher husband, Sylvester Allen; a sister, Pearl W. Goode; two brothers, R.H. Welch, Jr., and Frank T. Welch; a niece, Linda Ison; and a sister-in-law, Lavenna Welch. 

   Ida is survived by a brother, John H. Welch, of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces andnephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Mary Violet Baker, age 83, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on April 11, 2016 at Providence CareCenter, Sandusky, Ohio.  She was born on March 28, 1933 in Myra, Kentucky, where she was raised.  Mary married Richard Baker and they spent numerous years living around the country and theworld, due to his commitments to the United States Military.  She later settled down in South Carolina and later moved to Ohio.  Mary was a homemaker, who was of the BaptistFaith.

   She was a daughter of the late Arthur Mullins and Minnie Elkins Mullins.  Mary was also preceded in death by herhusband, Richard Baker and a brother, Thelmer J. Mullins.

   She is survived by two sons, Richard A. Baker, of Huron, Ohio, and Arthur W. Baker, of Huron, Ohio; threegrandchildren, Dustin, Weston and Carl; two sisters, Doris Myers, of Summertown, Tennessee, and Patricia Shirley, of Conyers, Georgia; and a host of other family and friends.

   Harold Glen Webb wasborn on September 26, 1939 at Bilvia, Kentucky.  He was the son of the late Kenneth and Hester Thomas Webb.  Glen went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2016 at his home in WebbBranch.  He was of the Christian Faith.

   Glen was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and onenephew.

   Glen is survived by two sons, Michael (Rhonda) Webb and Jeff (Kenna) Webb; three daughters, Debbie Conley, Lana (Tim)Crawford and Glenda Hall; seven grandchildren, Brenda, Crystal, Michelle, Jeremy, Keanna, Breanna and Callie; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Ethan, Marissa, Chase, Raegan and Laney; two brothers,Alfred (Wanda) Webb and Harold Lloyd Webb; one sister, Jean Tackett; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

   Billie M. DeSimone,age 83 of McRoberts Kentucky, passed away on Friday March 18, 2016 at Morning Point Assisted living facility in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on December 10th 1932 to the late Mammieand Claude McHone.  Billie was born in Whitesburg, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Paul DeSimone and a brother,Claude McHone, Jr.  Billie was a member of the McRoberts Missionary Baptist Church.

   Billie is survived by four children, Paula Kavolus and husband Chris, of Greenville, South Carolina, Kelly Sturm ofLexington, Victor DeSimone and wife Beverly, of Richmond Kentucky, Jamie and Shelly DeSimone, of Inman, South Carolina; among them ten grand children, Joseph Kavolus, Michael Kavolus, MatthewKavolus, Stephen Kavolus, Thomas Kavolus, Samantha Sturm, A.J. Sturm, Victoria DeSimone, Luke DeSimone and Maria DeSimone; two sisters, Norma Huff, of Neon, Kentucky, and Carrie Wright, of Wyandotte,Michigan; a brother, George McHone, of Millstone, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Ruby June Knowles, age79, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away on March 3, 2016 at Saint Joseph-Jessamine Ambulatory Care Center, Nicholasville, Kentucky.  She was born on June 13, 1936 in Mayking, Kentucky.  Rubywas a homemaker and a member of the Hemphill Church of Christ.

   She was a daughter of the late Emery Lee Clifton and Cecil Simmons Clifton.  Ruby was also preceded in death byher husband, Fred Knowles; a sister, Pearl Kiser; three brothers, Luther Clifton, Bill Clifton and James Clifton; and a half-sister, Gloria M. Stidham.

   She is survived by a daughter, Freida Ann Knowles-Fleming (Jason), of Nicholasville, Kentucky; two sisters, MollieClifton, of Dalton, Kentucky and Mary Young, of Fleming, Kentucky; two brothers, Emery Clifton, of Vicco, Kentucky, and Gene Clifton, of Haymond, Kentucky; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Nevil Joy Johnson, age84, of Virgie, Kentucky, passed away on February 23, 2016 at her home.  She was born on May 5, 1931 in Pike County, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Long Fork, of Virgie, Kentucky. Nevil was a homemaker, who was a member of the Sepight Church of Christ, since 1959.  She greatly enjoyed gardening, spending time with her Border Collie dogs, reading the Bible and riding herfour wheeler.

   Nevil was a daughter of the late Smith Johnson and Rebecca Stuart Johnson.  She was also preceded in death by herhusband, George W. “Son” Johnson and three brothers, Saul Johnson, Coolidge Johnson and Robbie Johnson.

    Nevil is survived by a daughter, Judy Lee Johnson, of Long Fork, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Marian Graham(Jerry), of Bristol, Tennessee; a great-granddaughter, Sabrina Graham, of Bristol, Tennessee; three sister-in-laws, Virgie Johnson, of Long Fork, Kentucky, Marsie Johnson, of Virgie, Kentucky, andJulie Johnson, of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

  Lula Morris Belcher, age 80, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away on February 11, 2016 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  She was born onFebruary 3, 1936 in Newhall, West Virginia and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. Lula had worked for numerous years as a cashier at A&P. She was a
member of the UFCW Externational Union and was of the Christian Faith.
   Lula was a daughter of the late James Richard Graham and Lillian Mae Huff Graham.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Kaye Morris and a son, RichardB. Morris.
   Lula is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Sparks (Michael), of Neon, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Megan Lynn McCarty (Ryan), Ricky Sexton (Candice), Michael D. Sparks,Kelli Marie Sparks and Shellie Nicole Elswick (Sammy); five great-grandchildren, Deacon Matthew McCarty, Bishop Israel Sexton, Mia Faith Sexton, Jasmine Hope Sexton and Reauna NicoleElswick; a sister, Judy Jeanette Vatssas, of Surgoinsville, Tennessee; three brothers, John Perry Graham, of Rogersville, Tennessee, James Alvin Graham, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida,and Merrell Wade Graham, of Surgoinsville, Tennesee; and a

   Margaret Grethel Richardson, age 90, of Fleming, Kentucky, passed away on February 9, 2016 at herhome.  She was born on August 25, 1925 in Kona, Kentucky.  Margaret was a homemaker, who greatly enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, friends and hergrandchildren.  She was well known for spending a great deal of time working outside, with her paying particular attention to her yard work and shoveling snow.  She was of theChristian Faith.

   Margaret was a daughter of the late William L. Blair and Hattie Franklin Blair.  She was also precededin death by her husband, Elbert Richardson; a daughter, Debbie Sparks; a son, Walter Ables; a sister, Barbara Montgomery; and two brothers, Dan Blair and Hanzel Blair.

   Margaret is survived by a daughter, Lisa Ratliff, of Fleming, Kentucky; four grandchildren,Mikey, Kelli, Scott and Cody; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Gideon; a brother, William “Bill” Blair, of Hemphill, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Friday February 12, 2016 after 6:00 PM at the Neon First Church of God.  Funeralservices will be held on Saturday February 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the church, with Mark Wagoner officiating.  Interment will follow at Sparks Family Cemetery, McRoberts,Kentucky. 

   Gwendolyn Belle Dunmyer Hill, passed away Thursday in Bristol, TN at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Gwen was born on September 9, 1939 in Pittsburg, PA.  She lived most of her life in MD and moved toBristol after retiring from Verizon. Gwen was an avid Washington Redskins fan and was a passionate animal lover. She was a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church.

   Gwen is preceded in death by her parents William and Martha Dunmyer and her husband of 54 years, Jack BentonHill. 

   She is survived by one son, Tom, of Pocahontas, VA; her sister, Karen Schneider of Great Mills, MD; her dear friend,Carol Dunn; and several nieces and nephews.

   Visitation will be held on Friday January 29 from 6:00-7:00 PM at Providence Community Church, on Woodlands Hills Roadin Abingdon, VA with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 PM, with Reverend Laura Plaster officiating.  Burial will be Saturday, January 30 at 12:00 PM at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap,VA.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington County Virginia HumaneSociety.

   The family wishes express their thanks to the medical staff of ICU #4 at Bristol Regional Medical Center for theirwonderful care of Gwen and her family.

   Kathy Ann Hall Tolliver, age 59, of Deane, Kentucky, passed away on January 24, 2016 at the Greg andNoreen Wells Hospice Center.  She was born on January 31, 1956 in Jenkins, Kentucky and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Kathy was a homemaker and attended the HemphillBaptist Church. 

   She was a daughter of the late Harold Hall and Lois Johnson Hall.  Kathy was also preceded in death by a brother,H.R. Hall.

   She is survived by her husband, Larry Tolliver, of Deane, Kentucky; a daughter, Amanda Hall, of Deane, Kentucky; twosons, Chad Tolliver, of Deane, Kentucky, and Jason Hall, of Deane, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Kayli Hall; and a host of other family and friends. 

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 27, 2016 from 6:00-10:00 PM and on Thursday January 28, 2016 from5:00-10:00 PM at the Hemphill Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held on Friday January 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the church, with Danny Hurst officiating.  Interment will follow atHall and Quillen Cemetery, Deane, Kentucky. 

   Ray Webb, of Neon, KY, born on May 18, 1933 passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the WhitesburgARH after surviving on this earth for 82 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Lee Amburgey Webb, His sons Arnold Ray Webb and Bobby Franklin Webb. Also, his mother Elma,his father, John, brothers: John David, James Freddie, Sisters: Joy Della and Elizabeth.

   He was survived by two sons: Elmer Lynn Webb and wife Karen of Hemphill, KY, Jimmy Lester Webb and wife Anetta ofJenkins, KY. Two daughters: Patricia Darline Caudill and husband Doyle of Jenkins, KY,  Belinda Joy Fitchpatrick and husband John of Neon, KY. A daughter-in-law, Vickie Webb. Grandchildren: April Jean Fitchpatrick, Alan Ray Maggard, Kayla Marie Webb Damron, Michael Ryan Webb, Jackie Collins, Vivian Carrol Caudill. Step grandchildren: Anthony, Jeremy, Charlie, Don, Tiffanyand 10 great grandchildren. Along with a host of nieces and nephews to morn his passing.

   He was a faithful member of the Mayking Church of Christ for 22 years. He was a caring and loving man he seemed thathe never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone. He was concerned with everyone over himself.  He will be so missed by his family and surrounding community. Dad is finally at peace. 

   Visitation will be held on Thursday January 21, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM, with funeral services following at 8:00 PM,with Mark Wright officiating at Carty Funeral Homes Neon Chapel, Neon, Kentucky.  Family and friends will meet at Green Acres Cemetery on Friday January 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM for gravesideservices

   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ray Webb BurialFund.
