If a loved one passes away at home, please call 911 immediately. Unless the person was under hospice care, it will be necessary for a coroner to be contacted. The 911 personnel can assist you with calling the coroner. The coroner or hospice nurse will contact us when they feel it is appropriate.
If a loved one passes away a long distance from their home, in another city or state, unless the death occurs in a hospital, nursing home or hospice, you should probably call 911. If the death has occured in a hospital or nursing home, or hospice house, someone in charge will ask you if there is a funeral home that you would like contacted. If it is the intention of the family to have the deceased returned to Letcher County-without any type of services where the death has occured-then please contact us directly. It is not necessary for you to contact a funeral home in the town or city where the death occured. We can make the arrangements to have your loved one returned to Letcher County from nearly anywhere in the world.
