   Norma JeanPennell, age 51, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, (formerly of Mooresburg, Tennessee and Jenkins, Kentucky) passed this life to be withher Lord and Savior on Tuesday January 1, 2013, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She fought a courageous battle against lymphoma and leukemia for the last 5years.

   She was of the Christianfaith and was baptized at the Slate Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Mooresburg, Tennessee.

   Norma was the daughter ofthe late John and Delsie Pennell of Mooresburg, Tennessee (formerly of Jenkins, Kentucky), and was born on September 16, 1961 at Clintwood, Virginia to Hester and the late JuniorVance.

   She is survived by herdaughters, Amanda Lamb of Mooresburg, Tennessee and Shannon Lamb of Whitley City, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Ariana and Aurora Wadell of Newport, Tennessee. She is also survived by sisters, CarolLoretta Burke, Lorene Newsom, Irene Arnold, Pat Puckett, Genetta and Christine Vance; brothers, Robert Pennell, Johnny, Clayton, Jimmy, Clyde, Patton, Fred and Tommy Vance; special friend, TammyKeirsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, amd friends. She was predeceased by four brothers, Donald, Tex and Ollis Pennell and Tracy Vance, and one sister, Vonda Vance.

   Visitation will be at Polly& Craft Funeral Home on Thursday January 3, 2013, from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be conducted following visitation at 7:00 pm, with Jimmy Jarnigan and Lee Wayne Grubb, officiating. Intermentwill be on Friday at 1:00 pm at the Rob Ratliff Cemetery. Lou Vera Fulton,age 60, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 1, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky. Shewas born on February 25, 1952, at Deane, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a professor at Hazard Community & TechnicalCollege, Hazard, Kentucky. She was a member of the Goosecreek Church of Christ. She loved her job at the college, and had worked there for twenty-nine years.

   She was a daughter of thelate Willie & Billie Jo Bentley, and was also preceded in death by her husband, David Glynn “Cotton” Fulton.

   Survivors include threesons, David Shadrick Fulton & wife Tracy Ann, of Georgetown, Kentucky, Jordan Robert Fulton & wife Sam, of Kona, Kentucky, and Shiloh Glynn Fulton, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; two grandchildren,Colton Lee Fulton and Clayton Shade Fulton; a sister, Cheryl Bentley, Lexington, Kentucky; three brothers, Tony Craig Bentley and Sheldon Kent Bentley, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Timothy VanBentley, of Richmond, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charlotte LouiseMabe, age 84, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at the TanbarkHealth Care Center, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on December 12, 1928, at Evarts, Kentucky, made her home in Jenkins for many years, and had lived in Lexington, Kentucky, for the lasttwenty-five years. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of the Jenkins Methodist Church for many years.

   She was preceded in deathby her father, Mike Kennedy; her husband, French Mabe, Jr.; a son, French Mabe III; and a brother, Donald Kennedy.

   She is survived by herdaughter and son-in-law, Sandra & Oakie Greer, Lexington, Kentucky; her mother, Margaret Kennedy, Williamson, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Jason Greer and Jeremy Greer & wife Moriah;three great-grandchildren, Connor, Madison, and Makenzie; a sister, Ginny Davis, Williamson, West Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

James EmmettMcCullum, age 79, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday January 7, 2013, at his home. He was born on January 8, 1933, atFleming, Kentucky, and lived nearly his entire life in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was a retired coal miner, having retired from BethEnergy, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.He was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Mr. McCullum was also a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Jenkins.

   He was a son of the lateRobert McCullum & Mae Reed McCullum, and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Chilton McCullum, Bobby McCullum, and Ronnie McCullum.

   Survivors include his wifeof over fifty-eight years, Dorothy Carrello McCullum, of Jenkins; two sons and daughters-in-law, James McCullum, Jr. & wife Janet, of Jenkins, and Larry McCullum and wife Cathey, of Honolulu,Hawaii; five grandchildren, James III, Ashtan, Kristan, Katelan, and Caly; two sisters, Irene Hill, Round Rock, Texas, and Sandy Dettloff, of St. Claire Shores, Michigan; a brother, Stacy McCullum,of Shelbyville, Indiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Margaret Elizabeth Honeycutt,age 67, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Thursday morning January 10, 2013, at her home. She was born April 3, 1945, at Breathitt County, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in Letcher County,Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a longtime member of the Dunham Freewill Baptist Church.

   She was preceded in death by her father, AlfredLee Roberts, and her husband, Chester Lee Honeycutt. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Cora Shephard.

   Survivors include a daughter, ElizabethHoneycutt, of Elkhorn Creek; three sons, Alfred Lee Honeycutt & wife Sandra, Eddie Dewayne Honeycutt & wife Lynnette, and Billy Joe Honeycutt, all of Jenkins; her mother, Mollie Roberts,Jackson, KY; five grandchildren, Tina, Samantha, Alfred, Ashley, and Karasma; two brothers, Orin Roberts and Willie Roberts, both of Jackson, KY; special friends, Charlene and Nancy; and a host ofother relatives and friends.

She was born August 25, 1953 in Knoxville, TN to Robert Buford Sr. and Mary Elizabeth HoskinsHampton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who had the blessing to know her.

She was a devoted member of the New Freedom Worship Center in Jenkins.

Doriss is survived by her husband of 38 wonderful years, Johnny R. Williams Sr. Two sons, Johnny R. Williams Jr.of Richmond, KY and C. Shaun Williams (Christy) of Leitchfield, KY. Four Grandchildren, Aislynn Raylee Williams, Carley Araya Williams, Jerrick Porter Williams, and Kendric Royce Williams.

Marjorie H. Mills, age 90, of Sun City Center, Fla passed away January 20,2013. She retired as an elementary school teacher for Fleming-Neon Elementary School and was a life member of Neon United Methodist Church where she was a pianist and organist, and played fornumerous weddings and funerals over the years.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, Euian C. Mills, her infant daughter,Cynthia Gayle Mills, her sister, Vivian Myers and her brother, Dan J. Harman, Jr.

   Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Cam and Gary Bullock, grandson,Joshua Bullock and his wife, Jennifer, granddaughter, Betsy Scarborough and her husband, Tom, and five great grandchildren, Anna and James Bullock and Ashlee, Avery and Alex Scarborough. Wilma JoHighfill, age 69, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital,Whitesburg, Kentucky. She was born on February 1, 1943, at Batesville, Arkansas, and lived in Jenkins for many years. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. Her favoritehobby was crocheting.

   She was a daughter of thelate William R. Bolin & Wilma Cannady Bolin, and was also preceded in death by her long-time companion, Paul Ray Johnson.

   Survivors include adaughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Dean Mullins, Whitesburg, Kentucky; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Jeanette Jerrigan, of Batesville, Arkansas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild;a sister, Billie McDonald, of Batesville, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Atha Lee Collier Bare,age 72, of Coeburn, Virginia, formerly of Letcher County, Kentucky, passed away Monday January 21, 2013. She was born on June19, 1940, at Neon, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in Seco, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a retired cook from Fleming-Neon Elementary School. She was of the FreewillBaptist faith, and greatly enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   She was a daughter of the late BrittCollier & Georgia Hall Collier, was the widow of Gene Bare; and was also preceded in death by five brothers, Vernice Collier, Luther “Inkie” Collier, Elmer Collier, Mack Collier, and Ike Collier;and a sister-in-law, Jennifer Collier.

Arthur Ray Goff,age 80, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday February 2, 2013, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee. He was born onApril 20, 1932, in Pike County, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Jenkins. He was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service, and had been postmaster in Jenkins for a number ofyears. Mr. Goff was a United States Army veteran, and was a member of the Jenkins United Methodist Church. He was an avid bass fisherman and was a very skilled wood carver. He greatly enjoyedputting-up bird houses for purple martins to live in.

   He was a son of the lateGarfield Goff & Mary Belle Mullins Goff, and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Orville Goff, James Goff, and Ovie Jean Goff.

   Survivors include his wife,Sandy Carter Goff, of Jenkins, Kentucky; a daughter, Lisa Lynn Goff Ratliff, of Jenkins; a son and daughter-in-law, Tracy Ray Goff & wife Angela, of Jenkins; four grandchildren, Ali, Tanner,Jarret, and Joseph; two sisters, Ann Geeser, Merit Island, Florida, and Janice Adams, of Jenkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ed Bentley, age 81, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Monday February 4, 2013, at his home. He was born on December 31, 1931, in Pike County, Kentucky, andlived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He was a member of the Hemphill Church of Christ formany years.

   Mr. Bentley was a son of the late William Payne Bentley & Nancy Ann Stewart Bentley, and was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary, Marie, and Helen;  and eightbrothers, Bill, Wilburn, Robert, Walter, Elish, Jesse, Payne, Jr., and Ballard.

Mrs. Savannah Marcum Rose, age 85, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away Monday February 11, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional hospital, Whitesburg,Kentucky.  She was born on November 30, 1927, at Bold Camp, Virginia, and had lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a member of the Millstone Missionary BaptistChurch, Millstone, Kentucky.  She was a homemaker, a mother, and very much enjoyed sitting on her porch every day watching the birds in her yard.

   She was a daughter of the late Noah and Julia Boggs Marcum, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer Rose, Sr.;  two great-grandchildren, Nova Savannah Rose andKeighley Rose Patton;  two sisters, Inez and Ezelle;  and three brothers, Ed, Bill, and Charles.

   Survivors includethree daughters, Rhonda Polly (Gill), Morrow, Ohio,  Barbara Fox (Mackie), of Jenkins,  Evelyn Johnson (Randy), of Neon, Kentucky,  six sons,Luther W.     Mrs. Geraldine  Collins,age 71, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday February 12, 2013, at her residence in Jenkins, Kentucky. Shewas born on June 11, 1941, in Jenkins, Kentucky, and had lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a member of the Peoples Fundamental Baptist Church in Dunham, Kentucky. She was ahomemaker, a mother and very much enjoyed caring for her flowers and was also an avid gardener.

   She was a daughter of the late Hubert and Gertrude Mullins Mullins, and was also preceded in death by four brothers, Sam Mullins, Johnnie Mac Mullins, Henry Mullins &Russell Joe Mullins.

   Survivors include her husband, Billy Ray Collins, Jenkins, Kentucky; a daughter, Elizabeth Pruitt (Keith), Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandchildren, Angelina Lee & MelissaPruitt; three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Kaleb & Noah; two sisters, Louise Stanley, of Wise, Virginia, & Margaret Bentley, of Jenkins, Kentucky; four brothers, Freddie Mullins, of Bunker Hill,West Virginia, Harold Mullins, David Mullins & Emory Mullins, all of Jenkins, Kentucky; several nieces & nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Della Mae Mullins White, age 101, passed away Friday night, February 15, 2013, at the Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood, Virginia. She was born onNovember 30, 1911, at Beefhide, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in Jenkins, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker.  Della was a member of the McRoberts Old Regular BaptistChurch, McRoberts, Kentucky, and had also been a member of the Jenkins Senior Citizens, and also the AARP.

   She was a daughter of the late Manford & Nancy Mullins, and was the widow of Sampson Andrew White, who passed away on February 8, 1980.  She was also preceded in deathby a son, Hursel Lee White;  four grandchildren;  one great-grandchild;  three sisters;  and seven brothers.

   Survivors include five daughters, Virginia Daryl Bartram, of Jenkins;  Mary Ethel Brown, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky,  Alpha Louise Mullins, Jenkins;  Judy Gail Rowe,Clintwood, Virginia, and Joyce Ann McComas, of Hurley, Virginia;  six sons, Billy West White, Red Fox, Kentucky,  Fred Kirby White and Samuel Homer White, both of Jenkins, Douglas McArthurWhite, Iowa City, Iowa,  Arvil White, Elkhorn City, Kentucky,  and Ricky White, also of Jenkins;  over fifty grandchildren;  seventy-five great-grandchildren;  thirty-fivegreat-great-grandchildren;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

Susan “Susie”  Lambert Redman, age 63, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away early Tuesday morning February 19, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center,Johnson City, Tennessee.  She was born on August 15, 1949, at Cleveland, Virginia, and was a lifelong resident of Russell County, Virginia.  She had worked for a number of years as Directorof the Jobs Training Partnership Act Program in Russell County, and later owned and operated the Southwest Virginia Tractor Trailer Training Center.  She graduated from Cleveland High School andattended the Bristol Commercial College.  Susie greatly enjoyed growing her flowers, decorating her house both inside and outside, and cooking.  She was a member of the Green Valley BaptistChurch, Lebanon, Virginia.

   She was a daughter of the late Stallard Lambert & Gertrude Deel Lambert, and was also preceded in death by an infant daughter;  and a brother, Billy Lambert.

   She is survived by her husband of over twenty-one years, Preston Redman,  of Lebanon;  a sister, Glenda Blevins, Chilhowie, Virginia;  four brothers, Don Lambert,Abingdon, Virginia,  Eddie Lambert, Doug Lambert, and Gary Lambert, all of Lebanon;  her mother-in-law, Nancy Redman, Norton, Virginia;  several nieces and nephews;  and a host ofother relatives and friends.

   Visitation will be on Thursday February 21, 2013, at the Green Valley Baptist Church, Lebanon, Virginia, from 5:00-8:00 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm, withRev.     Josephine Rogers Richardson, age 76, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away Monday February 18, 2013, at her home.  She was born on December18, 1936, at McRoberts, Kentucky, lived in Louisville, Kentucky, for a number of years, and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a homemaker, and had worked as asecretary at a paint manufacturing company in Louisville for many years.  Josephine was a member of the Haymond Freewill Baptist Church.

   She was a daughter of the late Dewey Rogers & Gerushia Salyers Rogers, and was the widow of Paul Richardson, who passed away in 2007.  She was also preceded in death bytwo sisters, Frances Branham and Eva Winkle; and a brother, John Rogers.

Phyllis Ann HallWilliams, age 74, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away early Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, at her home. She was born on March 5, 1939 at McRoberts, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident ofLetcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and worked as a secretary for sixteen years for the Jenkins Independent School District, and for Letcher County Golden Years Rest Home as abookkeeper for twenty-three years. She enjoyed cooking, working cross word puzzles, wrestling, ‘her’ dogs, and spending time with her family and friends.

She was a daughter of the late Sam &Flora Quillen Hall, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Ava Jean Baker.

   Survivors include twodaughters and sons-in-law, Carla Gibson and husband William, McRoberts, Kentucky, and Tracy Oden and husband Shane, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Williams and wifeLiz, of McRoberts, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, Nick, Lindsay, Whitney, Judy Ann, and Ryan; a great-grandchild, Myla; two brothers, Sammy Hall, of Mays Lick, Kentucky, and SteveHall, of Whitesburg, Kentucky;   a special friend, Lois Thompson, of McRoberts, Kentucky; a special aunt, Edith Bolen, of Herrin, Illinois; and a host of other relatives andfriends.

Mrs. Pelma BlairDixon, age 95, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday March 12, 2013, at her home. She was born at Premium, Kentucky, on May16, 1917, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a retired school teacher, having taught twenty-six years at Burdine Elementary School.Mrs. Dixon was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Kentucky Education Association-Retired, and was also a member of the Little Ruby Old Regular Baptist Church. She also taught four years of extensionclasses from EKU to area teachers that were working on their certifications. Her years of involvement, both as an active and retired teacher, in educational organizations, including the PrichardCommittee for Academic Excellence in Kentucky, reflected her desire that all students get the best educational opportunities possible.

   Her volunteer work includedLetcher County Public Library Board, Home Health Advisory Committee and volunteer at the Jenkins Hospital, Letcher County Cancer Council, and Senior Citizen Council for Letcher County. She served astreasurer for the local Senior Citizen organization that was so very dear to her. As a member of the Old Jenkins High School Renovation Committee, she was extremely proud of the committee’s hard workto save the old building. Among her awards and achievements, being named recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award for the Jenkins Days Festival was probably the one mostcherished.

   Perhaps though, she will bemost remembered for the love she gave, not only to family, but to all honored to know her.

   Pelma was a daughter of the late Hiram Blair & Melvina Whitaker Blair, and was the widow of Dennis Dixon. She was alsopreceded in death by a son, Roger Dixon; three sisters, Christine Fields, Ethel Jones, and Loretta Caudill; three brothers, Edward Bryant, Earl Bryant, and Mitchell Bryant; a daughter-in-law, LannaDixon; and son-in-law, Ronald Crosbie.

   Survivors include twodaughters, Peggy D. Crosbie, Huntington, West Virginia, and Pat Bowman, Winchester, Kentucky; two sons, Larry Dixon, Winchester, Kentucky, and D. Charles Dixon, of Jenkins, Kentucky; tengrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorla Whitaker, Roxana, Kentucky, and Glenora Eldridge, of Indiana; five brothers, Phillip Bryant, Robert Bryant, Donnie Ray Bryant, Jack Bryant,and Jerry Bryant, all of Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Robert McMillan, age82, of Broadhead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday March 16, 2013, at the Rockcastle Health & Rehabilitation Center, Broadhead, Kentucky. He was born in Kansas, and had made his home in severaldifferent states during his life. He was a United States Army veteran. He had worked in the oilfields in different states for many years, and also was a long-distance truck driver.

   He is survived by a son KenMcMillan, of Kansas; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 amon Friday March 22, 2013, at the Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery, Jenkins, Kentucky, with Rev. Van Webb, officiating. Military rites will be given by the Big Sandy DAV Chapter #18.

   Larry Monroe Ratliff, age 73, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Thursday April 25, 2013, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville,Kentucky.  He was born on June 13, 1939, at Jenkins, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He was a United States Army Veteran.  Larry worked for manyyears in the septic tank business and was well known in Letcher County.  He was of the Protestant faith.

   He was a son of the late Hendrix Ratliff & Julie Wells Ratliff, and was preceded in death by his wife, Alora Haynes Ratliff, who passed away on August 19, 1997.  He wasalso preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Calhoun and Virginia Fugate;  and two brothers, Ralph Ratliff and Billy Joe Ratliff.

   Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, James Elmer Ratliff and wife Joyce, of Roseboro, North Carolina;  long-time friend and brother-in-law, Leo Fugate, Jenkins,Kentucky;  and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

   Visitation was on April 27 and April 28, 2013, at Polly & Craft Funeral Home, Jenkins, KY.  Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 pm Monday April 29, 2013, at thefuneral home chapel, with Rev. Jerry Allen Vanover, age 40, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Friday April 26, 2013, at his home.  He was born on July 13, 1972, in Alexandria, Virginia,and lived most of his life in Jackhorn.  He had worked as a lab technician for over twenty years at Standard Laboratories.       Jerry was of the Church of Christfaith.

   He was a son of the late Harold & Helen Vanover.

   He is survived by his wife, Anita Collins, of McRoberts, Kentucky;  a daughter, Emily Vanover, McRoberts, Kentucky;  a son, Ritchie Vanover, of McRoberts,Kentucky;  a brother, Danny Vanover, of Sergent, Kentucky;  girlfriend Rana Brace and her daughter Liza Beth Brace;  step-father, Connie Hall;  step-sister, Misty Griffith; step-brother; Richard Hall;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Mr. William Edwin “Bill” Gibson, age 82, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday April 27, 2013, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.  He wasborn on September 16, 1930, at Weeksbury, Kentucky, later lived in Virginia, West Virginia, and moved to Jenkins, Kentucky, in 1974, where he lived the rest of his life.  He received abachelor’s degree in mine engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and later worked for Bethleham Energy, and later worked for the Virginia Iron Coal & Coke Company.  Bill joined theBurdine Freewill Baptist Church in 1982, and became a deacon of the church.  He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, and was also a Shriner.

   He was a son of the late Edwin Joseph Gibson & Irene Depew Gibson, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Click.

   Survivors include his wife, Gwenda Wicker Gibson, of Jenkins;  a son, James Edwin Gibson, of Lexington, Kentucky;  two daughters, Barbara Gibson Collins and Deborah IreneAnderson (Christopher), of Jenkins;  four grandchildren, Corey, Stachia, Christopher, Jr., and Allison;  a sister, Alice Martin, of Pikeville, Kentucky;  and a host of other relativesand friends.

   Visitation was on April 28, 2013, at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 am on Monday April 29, 2013, at the church, with Joe DePriestand Albert “Bo” Smith, officiating.  Interment followed at the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Allen, Kentucky.

Fon Jay Adkins, age 40, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday May 18, 2013, at his home.  He was born on September 12, 1972, at Pikeville, Kentucky,and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Jay graduated from the Mayking Christian School in 1989.  He was a member of the Jenkins First Baptist Church.

   He was preceded in death by his father, Fon Junior Adkins.

   He is survived by his mother, Rosetta Dingus Adkins, of Jenkins;  two sisters, Virginia Hope Hopkins, Elkhorn City, Kentucky,  and Linda Gail Adkins, of Orange County,California;  three brothers, Fon Johnny Adkins, Tucson, Arizona,  Donnie Randall Adkins and Bryon Dean Adkins, both of Lexington, Kentucky;  his maternal grandmother, Rose FlorenceDingus, of Jenkins;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Visitation was 6-8 pm on Monday May 20, 2013, at the Polly & Craft Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services were conducted following visitation at 8:00 pm, with LarryBradshaw and Carl Dingus, officiating.  Interment followed at the Rob Ratliff Cemetery at Shelby Gap, KY. 

 

    Easter Ellen Huff, age 86, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away early Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, at her home.  She wasborn on October 27, 1926 in  Letcher County, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of the county.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of the Neon Free PentecostalChurch.

  She was a daughter of the late Eli Dixon & Emily Fields Dixon, and was the widow of Lloyd Huff.  She was also preceded in death by three sons, A.P. Huff, Randall Huff, andMuncy Huff.

   Survivors include four daughters, Virgie Mae Sturgill, Kings Creek,  Alice Faye Burke, Big Cowan,  Lois Smith, Sand Lick,  and Macy Bowlen, of Floyd County; five sons, Truman Huff, of Big Cowan,  Darrell Huff, Neon,  Archie Huff and Maynard Huff, both of Big Cowan,  and Roy Lee Huff, of Neon; a host of grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

   James “Jim” Lynn Eastridge, Sr., age 58, of Effingham, South Carolina, passed away Sunday June 2, 2013.  He was born in Jasper, Indiana, on May 13, 1955, livedmost of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky, and was living in South Carolina, when he passed away. He was a grounds maintainance mechanic at the McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SouthCarolina, and was a member of the Christian Assembly Church in Florence, South Carolina.

   He was a son of the late Anna Mae Speedy Collier.

   Survivors include his wife, Deborah Louise Jent Eastridge, Effingham, South Carolina;  a son, James Lynn Eastridge II, of Effingham, South Carolina;  his father, JohnnyCollier, Whitesburg, Kentucky;  three sisters, Marilyn Eastridge, Hazard, Kentucky,  Becky Bates, Lexington, Kentucky,  and Lisa Selvedge, of Whitesburg, Kentucky;  and a host ofother relatives and friends.

   Visitation was at the Deane Baptist Church, Deane, Kentucky, on Thursday June 6, 2013.  Funeral services were at 1:00 pm Friday June 7, 2013 at the church, with intermentfollowing at the church cemetery.

  

 

   Robert Lee Collins, age 72, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday June 10, 2013, at his home.  He was born on August 18, 1940, at Dunham,Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  He was a retired employee of Food City, and in addition to other jobs he worked at, had been employed as a police officer forJenkins.  Mr. Collins had preached and sang at various local churches, and was a member of the New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Jenkins.  He was a United States Army veteran. He liked running, and had participated in running marathons.

   He was a son of the late Andrew & Grace Collins, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Anderson Collins.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, MaryJoyce Collins;  two sisters, Pauline Collins and Lucille Collins;  and two brothers, Paul Collins and Ralph Collins.

   Survivors include daughters Lori Collins and spiritual daughter Kim McElroy, of Sergent, Kentucky,  and Jennifer Adams and husband William, of Jenkins;  sons, RobertNeil Collins and wife Denise, of Jenkins,  and Timothy Collins and wife Brenda, also of Jenkins;  eight grandchildren, Darrin, Andrew, Tara, Kaylin, Kody, Corey, Makayla, and Trinity; a great-granddaughter, Payge;  a sister, Nancy Benge, of Indianapolis, Indiana;  a brother, Larry Collins, of Lenoir, North Carolina;  and a host of other relatives andfriends.

   Visitation was on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and June 12, 2013, at New Beginnings Assembly of God Church, in Jenkins.  Funeral services were on Thursday June 13, 2013at the church, with Pastor Robbie Delph, officiating.  Military rites followed funeral services at the church.  Interment followed at the Jenkins-Payne Gap Cemetery. 

 

   Barbara Anne McCown, age 66, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday June 19, 2013, at the Mountainview Regional Medical Center, Norton,Virginia.  She was born on June 25, 1946, in Floyd County, Kentucky, later moved from there, and came to Jenkins in 1974, where she lived the remainder of her life.  She was a mother and ahomemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.

   She was a daughter of the late George Hoyt Simmons & Dora Fields Simmons, and was the widow of Richard “Gary” McCown.  Barbara was also preceded in death by twosisters, Mable Marie Simmons and Ruth Simmons;  seven brothers, Kenneth “Ken” Simmons, James Russell Simmons, Milford “Mick” Simmons, George Hoyt “June” Simmons, Jr., Billy Newton Simmons, DoyleSimmons, and Wayne Simmons.

   Surviving family members include her children, Patricia Lynn McCown and Robert McCown;  a sister, Janet Louise Simmons;  two brothers, Jerry Simmons and Chester“Chetty” Simmons;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Stevie Darrel Toler, age 59, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Thursday June 27, 2013, at his home.  He was born on August 18, 1953, inWhitesburg, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  He had worked as a coal miner.  Mr. Toler was of the Protestant faith.

   He was a son of the late Elbert Toler and Mary Dorothy Mullins Toler, and was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Fleming Toler;  a son, Kevin Fleming;  two sisters,Corrine Toler and Joan Hughes;  and four brothers, Howell Toler, Henry Toler, Roy Toler, and Lester Ray Toler.

   Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Carter and husband Charles, of Wise, Virginia,  and Linda Collins and husband Robbie, of Sweetwater, Tennessee;  twograndchildren, Robin and Angelica;  a great-grandson, JayJay;  four sisters, Juanita Hugart, Berea, Ohio,  Dallie Smith, Grafton, Ohio,  Christine Richmond, Nicholasville,Kentucky,  and Stella Amick, of Ramey, West Virginia;  four brothers, Elbert Toler, Cleveland, Ohio,  Okie Toler, Elyria, Ohio,  Michael Toler, Jenkins, Kentucky,  andCharles Toler, of Sparta, Kentucky;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Ruby H. Zidaroff, age 87, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away early Friday morning, June 27, 2013, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center,Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on September 8, 1925, at Sergent, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a retiredschool teacher, having taught science classes at Jenkins High School for fifty years.  Mrs. Zidaroff was a member of the McRoberts Missionary Baptist Church, and was also a member of theKentucky Retired Teachers Association.  She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and sewing.

   She was a daughter of the late Benjamin Hasel Holbrook & Bernice Nichols Holbrook, and was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Holbrook Taylor.

   She is survived by her husband, James Zidaroff, of McRoberts, Kentucky;  a daughter, Shelia Hill and husband Jack, of Huber Heights, Ohio;  a son, Timothy Zidaroff andwife Sharon, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky;  three sisters, Ann Yost, Clayton, Ohio,  Nell Adams, Brookfield, Ohio,  and Phyllis Lucas, Venice Beach, Florida;  three grandchildren,Lori Schroeder and Jan Morris, both of Huber Heights, Ohio,  and Whitney Allison, of North Carolina;  five great-grandchildren;  one great-great-grandchild;  and a host of otherrelatives and friends.

    Jason Allen Riley, age 27, of Mayking, Kentucky, passed away June 26, 2013.  He was born on December 31, 1985, at Whitesburg,Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He had worked as a mason, and also hunted ginseng to support himself and family.  Jason was of the Pentecostalfaith.

   He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Johnson Riley, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

   Survivors include his wife, Kayla Eldridge Riley, Mayking, Kentucky;  daughters, Americas Riley, of Indiana,  and Jacie Marie Riley, of Mayking;  sons, Jason OtisRiley, of Indiana,  and Dawsyn Nathaniel Dean Riley, of Mayking;  his father, Coy Gail Riley, Sr., of Mayking;  three brothers, Coy Gail Riley, Jr., (Angela), Thornton, Kentucky, Thomas Riley (Katrina Wright), of Isom, Kentucky,  and Michael Ray Riley (Arielle), of Jenkins, Kentucky; one niece and four nephews;   and a host of other relatives andfriends.

   Visitation was on Sunday and Monday, June 30 and July 1, 2013 at the Lighthouse Church.  Funeral services were on Tuesday July 2, 2013 at the Lighthouse Church, with GlennGross & Charlie Hughes, officiating.  Interment followed at the Colson Family Cemetery. 

 

   Glory Jean Carter Arnold, age 61, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Thursday June 27, 2013, at her home.  She was born on December 7, 1951, inNew York, New York, and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker, did seamstress work and also hairdressing.  She was a member of CorinthBaptist Church in Fleming, Kentucky.

   She was a daughter of the late David Carter & Mae Ella Daniels Carter, and was the widow of Winston Arnold.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, MichelleCarter;  and a brother, Ronald Carter.

   She is survived by three sons, Leslie Carter, of Goose Creek,  Tori Maurice Carter, of Alabama,  and Reginald Carter, of Neon, Kentucky;  eightgrandchildren;  a sister, Angela Carter Carpenter, Norton, Virginia;  a brother, David Carter, Jr., of New York;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Visitation was from 11-1 on Tuesday July 2, 2013 at Corinth Baptist Church, Fleming, Kentucky.  Funeral services followed at 1:00 pm at the church, with Rev. Steve Peake,officiating.  Interment followed at the Upper Fleming Cemetery.

   Kimberley Sue Collier, age 50, of Neon, Kentucky, passed away Monday July 8, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg,Kentucky.  She was born on September 22, 1962, at Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived most of her life in the Neon area.  She had worked as a patient caregiver and was a member of the CornerstoneChurch in Whitesburg, Kentucky. 

   She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Collier.

   Survivors include her mother, Revil Million Collier, Neon;  a sister, Ann Archer, Jackhorn, KY;  a brother, Ernest Collier, Jr., of Jenkins, KY;  and a host ofother relatives and friends.

   The family held a memorial service at the home of Revil Collier on Sunday July 14, 2013.

   Mrs. Ruth Marie Jenkins, age 85, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday July 20, 2013, at her home.  She was born in West Virginia, andlived most of her life in Jenkins.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and worked for thirty years as a cook in the cafeteria at the Jenkins Community Hospital.  She was a member of theBurdine Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxillary.  She was a huge UK Cats fan, and her greatest joy in life was being with her grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren.

   Mrs. Jenkins was a daughter of the late Greenbury Harris & Virgie Roberts Harris, and was the widow of Lester Jenkins.  She was also preceded in death by a son, LesterJenkins, Jr.;   three sisters, Mabel Woods, Vonda Mullins, and Emil Downing.

   Survivors include a son Greg Jenkins & wife Toni, of Jenkins;  a daughter, Mattie Ann Jenkins, of Chicago, Illinois;  four grandchildren, Leslie, Greg, Jr.,Clayton, and Bradley;  seven great-grandchildren;  seven sisters, Julie Cogan, Nora Akers, Avonell Robinson, Hester Faye Petlikowski, all of Ecorse, Michigan,  Mary Mullins, ofBeefhide, Kentucky,  Ethel Hunnicutt, of Norton, Virginia,  and Tammy Walker, of Jenkins;  a brother, McArthur Harris, of Ecorse, Michigan;  and a host of other relatives andfriends.

   Ernest Cleo Tucker, age 75, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away Monday evening July 22, 2013, at his home.  He was born on June 7, 1938, atElkhorn Creek, later lived in Chicago, Illinois, for ten years, and lived the rest of his life in Burdine.  He was a United States Navy Veteran, and upon leaving the Navy, he worked as amaintenance supervisor for a Chicago company.  He later moved to Burdine, where he worked as a truck driver.  Ernest was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith, and attended the New FreedomWorship Center in Jenkins. 

   He was a son of the late Grady Tucker and Pearl Stanley Tucker, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Adkins Tucker.  He was also preceded in death by adaughter, Tammy Tucker;  and a brother, Alfred Tucker.

   Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Lucas, Lexington, Kentucky;  a son and his companion, Glenn Tucker & Alice, of Burdine;  two grandchildren, Hollyanne Lucasand Hannah Grace Lucas, and also C.J. Machniak;  four sisters, Mary Gordon, Indianapolis, Indiana;  Carol Brown, Ocala, Florida,  Wanda Grigsby, Burdine, Kentucky,  and DarleneBurton, Edinburgh, Indiana;  a brother, Lee Tucker, of Rogersville, Tennessee;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Mildred Ruth Robinson, age 85, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday July 29, 2013, at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on April 28, 1928, at Dunham, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of the Jenkins First BaptistChurch.  Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pine Mountain Chapter, where she was a past matron.  She enjoyed the Jenkins Senior Citizens, and greatly enjoyed going tochurch.

   She was a daughter of the late Kenneth Hughes and Mollie Whitaker Hughes, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Robinson;  a son, Jimmy Robinson;  andthree grandchildren, Jason Robinson,  Michelle Robinson,  and Christopher Shoulders.

   Survivors include two daughters, Patty Ann Hughes (Adrian), of Richmond, Kentucky,  Melody Rumpke (Bob), Berea, Kentucky;  four sons, Carl Robinson, Jr. (Lisa),Harlan, Kentucky,  Stephen Robinson, Frankston, Texas,  Rodney Robinson (Marty), Jenkins, Kentucky,  and Chris Robinson (Lori), of Georgetown, Kentucky;  twenty-onegrandchildren;  thirty-one great-grandchildren;  three great-great-grandchildren;  special friends, Paul Ed Narramore and Mary Smith;  sister-in-law, Phyllis Robinson;  and ahost of other relatives and friends.

   Visitation on Wednesday July 31, 2013, from 6-9 pm at Polly & Craft Funeral Home, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral services will be on Thursday August 1, 2013, at 11:00 amat the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Larry Brashear, officiating.  Interment will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

James Kiser, age 88 years, formerly of McRoberts, Kentucky passed away at Stein Hospice located in Sandusky, Ohio on August 2 2013.  He was born on August25, 1924 to the late Fred and Lucinda Collins Kiser in Democrat, Kentucky.  He proceded in death his wife of forty-nine years to the late Irene Cloud Kiser.

James worked and retired 1982 from Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a Continuous Miner Operator and Loading Machine Operator.  James also served during WWII aboard the USS HutchinsonPF 45 as First Class Seaman and received three medals from the Coast Guard.  James was also an active member and  Deacon of the Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters:  Carolyn Wright and Dwana Isaac of Bellevue, Ohio.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great greatgrandchildren.

 

Visitation was on Monday August 5, 2013,  from 2-4pm and after 6:00 pm at the Hemphill Freewill Church.  Funeral services were at 12:00 pm Tuesday at the church, withPastor Danny Hurst, officiating.

   Ruth Iniz Davidson, age 88, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Monday August 5, 2013, at her home.  She was born in Pike County, Kentucky, onSeptember 11, 1924,  and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and attended the Jenkins First Baptist Church.

   Ruth was a daughter of the late Nelson Tackett & Alva Broadhead Tackett, and was the widow of Larry Davidson.        She was also precededin death by five brothers, Woodrow, Ronnie, Donald, Cleo, and Bennie.

   Survivors include two sons, Mike Davidson, Mark Davidson (Sandra), all of Jenkins;  three grandchildren, Mike, Jr., Christopher, and Kim;  seven great-grandchildren,Summer, Christopher, Grace, John, Avery, Alyssa, and Payton;  and a host of other relatives and friends. 

   Visitation on Thursday August 7, 2013, at Polly & Craft Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services on Friday at 10:00 am in the chapel, with Rev. Larry Brashear,officiating.  Burial at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

 

   Christopher Wade Pease, age 43, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Thursday August 8, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center,Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born on July 16, 1970, in Letcher County, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County.  He had worked as a heavy equipment operator on strip miningoperations.  He was a member of the American Legion.  He was of the Protestant faith.

 

   He is survived by his wife, Sue Brannon Pease, of McRoberts;  two sons, Christopher Aaron Pease and Brandon James Pease, both of McRoberts, Kentucky;  his mother,Alpha Stewart, of McRoberts;  his father, James Pease, of Jackhorn, Kentucky;  two brothers, James Floyd Pease, of Jackhorn, Kentucky,  and Tommy Joe Pease, of Ermine, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.  Christopher would have soon been a grandfather.

   Visitation was on Wednesday August 14, 2013, at Carty Funeral Home from 1-5 pm.   There were no services.

   Bonnie Jean Bentley Hall,  age 75, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Thursday evening, August 22, 2013, at her home.  She was born onMay 24, 1938, in Pike County, Kentucky, and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a mother and a homemaker, and was of the Church of Christ faith.

   She was a daughter of the late William Payne Bentley & Nancy Ann Stewart Bentley, and was also preceded in death by two daughters, Melissa Castle and Lesa Castle;  agrandson, Kenneth Bentley, Jr.;  a great-grandson, Lucas Gabriel Everly;  three sisters, Helen Potter, Marie Burke, and Mary Fleming;  and nine brothers, Wilburn Bentley, Bill Bentley,Jesse Bentley, Elish Bentley, Walter Bentley, Ballard Bentley, Edd Bentley, Payne Bentley, Jr., and Robert Bentley.

   Surviving family members include three daughters, Tresa Gibson (Kennie), of Mayking, Kimberly Hunsucker (John), of Dry Fork,  and Dorothy Renae Hamilton, of Burdine; three sons, Kenneth Bentley (Heather), of McRoberts,  Kevin Castle, Buckhannon, West Virginia,  and Larry Anthony Collier (Brittany), of McRoberts;  nine grandchildren;  sixteengreat-grandchildren;  a sister, Millie Bentley, of McRoberts;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

   Dennie Fleming, age 72, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday evening August 13, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center,Lexington, Kentucky.  He was born on August 11, 1941, at Speight, Kentucky, lived in Pike County, Kentucky for sixteen years, and made his home in Letcher County, Kentucky, for the remainder ofhis life.  He had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal strip-mining industry, and was a United States Army veteran.  Dennie was a member of the Neon Methodist Church and was anordained minister for forty years.

   Charles Wendall “Charley” Mullins, age 38, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away Friday August 23, 2013, at his home.  He was born on April 11,1975, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Charley had worked as a butcher in the past.  He was a member of the Seco Freewill BaptistChurch. 

   He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Mae Johnson Mullins.

   Odus Durham,age 90, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday August 29, 2013, at the East Kentucky Veteran’s Center, in Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on January 15, 1923, in Haymond, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Durham was a retired coal miner and minister. He was an United States NavyWWII veteran and a member of the U.M.W.A. Odus was a dedicated Bishop, District Overseer, Pastor & member of the Church of God of Prophecy for over fifty years. He pastored at Elwood, EastCumberland, McRoberts, Burdine, Little Leatherwood & Prestonsburg, Kentucky, at the Church of God of Prophecy.   

   He was the son of the late Dennis and Cora Winchell Durham and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Clark Durham; a sister, Betty Combs; three brothers, Ray,James & Bobbie Durham; and also his infant sister, Niema Durham.

Mr. Russell Smith, age 85, of Payne Gap, Kentucky, passed away Friday September 13, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg,Kentucky.  He was born on January 18, 1928, at Seco, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He worked as a coal miner for Southeast Coal Company and was a memberof the United Mine Workers of America.  He was a collector of coins, baseball cards, knives and hats from all over the world.  He also enjoyed gardening, attending church and was a memberof the Haymond Freewill Baptist Church.

   He was a son of the late George R. and Eula Ashley Smith, and was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Lillian Collier, Ruby Phillips, Loraine Holbrook, Alice Nichols, DixieCollier, Lola Pugh and Edna Strong; and a brother, Harold Douglas Smith.

   Survivors include his wife, Nancy Allen Smith, Payne Gap, Kentucky;  two sons, George Smith, Payne Gap, Kentucky and Eddie Smith (Ava), Aiken, South Carolina; fourgrandchildren, Carissa Hughes (Bob), Jeremy Smith, Kristen Roberts (Joe) and Whitney Smith; and a host of family and friends.

   Yvonne Marie Miller, of Payne Gap, KY went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, September 9th,2013 at Pikeville Medical Center.

   Yvonne was the Daughter of Darwin and Ota Mullins of Jackhorn, KY.  She was born June 27th, 1951 in Jenkins, KY being 62 years, 2 months and 13 days of age atthe time of her passing.  She was a member of the Dunham Freewill Baptist Church for 17 years.

   She is survived by her loving husband, Jessie Miller of 46 years, 7 months and 14 days.  Her two sons, Jessie Lane Miller Jr and wife Katy.  Timothy Eric Miller andwife Susan and her daughter, Tammy Yvonne Miller.  Also surviving are her Grandchildren, James Michael Miller, Josie Ann Miller, Nicholas Kyle Mullins, Kiah Cheyenne Mullins, Dakota ShaneMullins, Abigail Loraine Miller, and Andrew Tate Miller.  Two Great Grandchildren, Willow Payne Miller and Trace King.  Her Step Grandchildren include, Snow Krystal White, Paige MarieWhite, Caleb James White and Allyson Marie Jean Meloy.

   Also surviving are her 7 brothers Royce Mullins of Jackhorn, KY, Lennis Mullins of Baltimore, MD, Ellis Mullins of Baltimore, MD, Ronald Mullins of Jackhorn, KY, CliffordMullins of Neon, KY, J.C. Mullins of Baltimore, MD and Michael Mullins of Jackhorn, KY.  Also surviving are her three sisters, Joyce Paige of Baltimore, MD, Loretta Meade of Deane, KY, and CathyElkins of White Pines, TN.

   Other than her Parents, she was preceded in death by her Grand Daughter, Erica Nicole Miller, and Her sister, Madonna Sue Mullins.

   Yvonne leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life. 

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 11 and September 12, 2013 at the Dunham Freewill Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held on FridaySeptember 13, 2013 at the church at 1:00 PM with Hollis Blevins, Charles Gallion and Calvin Bates officiating.  Internment will follow at the Payne Gap Cemetery.

 

 

   Harlen EricSmith, age 21, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Thursday September 19, 2013, at Jenkins, Kentucky.  Hewas born on June 20, 1992, at Whitesburg, Kentucky, and lived all of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky. 

   He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Herma Jacobs; two aunts,Corina Caudill and Linda Slone; and two cousins, Bryan Collins and Ann Gilley.

   Survivors include his mother, Goldie Smith, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two sisters,Hermianna Erica Smith and Kimberly Smith, both of Jenkins, Kentucky; two brothers, Jake Smith, of Jenkins, Kentucky and Billy Jacobs, of Neon, Kentucky; his maternal grandfather, Sherman Jacobs, ofNeon, Kentucky; his paternal grandmother, Rebecca Smith, of Knott County, Kentucky; and a host of family and friends.

Clifford Harold Mullins, of Neon, KY, who loved everyone and never met a stranger, left us Friday, October 4, 2013 at his home 350 S. Abdoo Neon, KY to be withour heavenly father and to join our loved ones that have already made the journey.

   Clifford was the son of Darwin and Ota Mullins of, Jackhorn, Kentucky.  He was born on October 11, 1943 in Boldcamp, Virginia.  He was 69 years of age at the time ofhis passing.  He was a member of the Dunham Freewill Baptist Church for 10 years.  He was a United States Army veteran and member of the Pound VFW Post 9600.

   He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Mullins, of 22 years; two sons, Clifford Edwin Mullins and wife Michele, of Glasgow, KY, Timothy Thomas, of Neon, KY; his daughter,Donna Christine Miller, of Glasgow, KY; eight grandchildren, Bucky (Will) Kado, Dustin Kado, Britni Mullins, Roxanne Dillio, Tyler Mullins, Christopher Mullins, Kayla Slagal, Anthony Hackworth; twounborn great grandchildren; parents: Bucky and Amanda Kado (Boy-Kyran Christopher) and Britni and Tyler (name unknown); six brothers, Royce (Burr) and wife Violet Mullins, of Jackhorn, KY, Lennis(Den) Mullins, of Baltimore, MD, Ellis (Elkie) and Felice (Arta) Mullins, of Baltimore, MD, Ronald (Ronnie) and wife Glenda Mullins, of Jackhorn, KY, J.C. and wife Micky Mullins, of Blatimore, MD,Michael (Mike) and wife Pam Mullins, of Jackhorn, Ky; three sisters, Joyce Paige, of Baltimore, MD, Loretta Meade, of Deane, KY and Cathy Elkins, of White Pines, TN; his brother-in-law and lifelongbest friend, Jessie Miller, of Payne Gap, KY.

   Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Madonna Sue Mullins and Yvonne Marie Miller.

   Clifford leaves behind many nieces and nephews, extended members and dear friends to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life.

   Visitation will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 2013 and October 8 2013 at the Hemphill Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9 2013at the church at 2:00 PM with Danny Hurst officiating.  Internment will follow at the Payne Gap Cemetery.  

   Verlin Keith Carty, Sr., age 59, of Wise, Virginia, passed away Thursday October 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on August 27, 1954in Norton, Virginia.  As a boy, he moved to Vermilion, Ohio and returned to Southwest Virginia as a young man and has lived in the region since.  He completed the Mortuary Science Programat John Tyler Community College in 1976 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Public Administration from Clinch Valley College in 1979.  He owned and operated several funeralhomes in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky, with over fourty years of funeral service experience.  Mr. Carty was a member of Hoge Masonic Lodge #8 FA & AM, also two time pastWorshipful Master, the Wise County Shrine Club, York Rite, Oddfellows, Jenkins Kiwanis, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #171 Wise and #134 Norton, Phi Sigma Kappa and a Kentucky Colonel.  Hewas interested in music, having been the head drummer in high school.  He greatly enjoyed spending his free time at the beach and on his land.  He was of the Christian faith.

   He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Carty and his grandparents, Willard and Nannie Carty.

   Survivors include his wife of thirty four years, Dana Carty, of Wise Virginia; a daughter, Hannah Carty, of Wise, Virginia; two sons, Verlin Keith (Megan) Carty, Jr., of Jenkins,Kentucky and David Carty, of Wise, Virginia; his mother, Hilda Marie Carty, of Vermilion, Ohio; a sister, Denise (John) Zielske, of Vermilion, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Nancy Redman, of Norton,Virginia; four grandchildren, Trey, Trent, Ethan and Arabella Carty; six nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

   Visitation will be held Sunday October 20 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky and Monday October 21 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Mt. OliveFreewill Baptist Lighthouse Church, Wise, Virginia.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 22 at 1:00 P.M. at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia, with pastors Van Webb,Jeff Slone and Mark Wagoner officiating.  Entombment will follow at the Temple Hill Mausoleum.  Family and friends will travel in procession from Mr. Carty’s residence at 12:00 P.M. to thecemetery.

William Patton Branham, age 94, ofMcRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Monday October 14, 2013 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on December 8, 1918, in Pike County, Kentucky, andspent most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Mr. Branham was a retired coal miner.  He was a member of the McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Church for over 49 years.

   He was the son of the late Lorenzo and America Johnson Branham. He was also preceded in death by hiswife, Flonnie Tackett Branham; three sisters, Hattie Hughes, Odell White and Ester Potter; and two brothers, Jonas Branham and Jack Branham.

  Mr. Branham is survived by two daughters, Patty (Sid) Baker, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Mary Adams, ofMcRoberts, Kentucky; one son, Jonah (Gloria) Branham, of McRoberts, Kentucky; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Pina Gibson, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Johannah DeBruell andLucy Anderson, both of Michigan; two brothers, John Branham, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Willie Branham, of Michigan; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Thursday October 17, 2013 at the McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Churchafter 6:00 PM.  Funeral services will be held on Friday October 18, 2013 at 12:00 PM at the McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Church.  Internment will follow at the Branham FamilyCemetery

   Stanley Gibson, age 73, of McRoberts, Kentucky, passed away Thursday October 31, 2013 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center,Hazard, Kentucky.  He was born on August 14, 1940 at Neon, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus of McRoberts and theUnited Mine Workers of America.

   He was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for Beth-Elkhorn Coal Company for many years and retired from there.

   Stanley always loved the community of McRoberts and its people. 

   He was one of the founding members of the Committee for a Better McRoberts which he helped organize along with some of his fellow members of the communityto make McRoberts a better place to live and raise their children.  Stanley was instrumental in bringing about many positive changes in the community. 

   Always ready to help with whatever needed done, Stanley has spent many long days working at the recreation center assisting in remodeling it to make itserviceable for his neighbors and still keeps up with the activities there.

   He retired as Vice-President of the Committee for a Better McRoberts in 2011 due to health problems and has been sorely missed.

   He was a son of the late Monroe Gibson and Ora Collins Gibson.  He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Kermit McIntosh, Arnold Gibson,McKinley Gibson, Lowell Gibson, Edgar Gibson and a sister, Dianne Hall. 

   Stanley is survived by his wife, Wilma Gibson, of McRoberts, Kentucky, and together they have two lovely daughters, Tina Holland (Brett), of Neon,Kentucky and Angie Collins (J.R.), of Premium, Kentucky; two grandsons, Nick and Cody Holland; one granddaughter, Kimber Collins; a sister, Geraldine Mosgrove, of Detroit, Michigan; several niecesand nephews; along with his dear friends of the McRoberts Community Center and his special buddy, Jim Scott.

   Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the McRoberts Community Center from 12-5 PM.  A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM withFreddy Johnson, Steve Peake and Willie Lamb officiating.  

Wilma Jean Campbell, age 62, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday November 6, 2013 at her home.  She was born on July 30, 1951 in KnottCounty, Kentucky. She was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky and had made Jenkins, Kentucky her home for the last year.  She attended the St. George Catholic Church.

   She was a daughter of the late Denver Sexton and Wonder Sexton and was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Faye Sexton.

   Survivors include her son, Robert Craft, of Covington, Georgia; three grandchildren, Devon Robert Lee Craft II, Kelsey Victoria Craft and Noah RileyCraft; two sisters, Patricia (David) Sanders, of Conyers, Georgia; Phyllis Sexton, of Lexington, Kentucky; three brothers, Marlin (Pam) Sexton, of Parsons, West Virginia, Gary (Edwena) Sexton, ofWhitesburg, Kentucky and Anthony Paul (Patty) Sexton, of Wolcottville, Indiana; and a host of family and friends. 

   Visitation will be held on November 9, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Polly & Craft Chapel, Jenkins, Kentucky.  Funeral mass willbe held afterwards at 7:00 PM with Father Michael officiating.  A private interment will be held at a later date.  

   Mrs. Rosa Meade Tackett, age 87, of Deane, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday November 6, 2013, at her residence.  She was born on May14, 1926, at Jackhorn, Kentucky and live most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She married Burnette Hurston Tackett on September 6, 1947.  She was a member of the Church of Christfor over 65 years.  She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family.

   She was the daughter of the late Marion and Ellen Meade.  She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Glenda Jeanette Johnson and Linda GailFields; two sisters, Hazel Quillen and Myrtle Bentley.

   She is survived by her husband, Burnette Tackett; one son, Gary (Della) Tackett; one daughter, Sandra Little; one son-in-law, Alfred Fields; Thirteengrandchildren, Sletta Cerva, Wayne (Cathy) Tackett, Michelle Fields, Angela (Scotty) Church, Garry Neal (Debbie) Tackett, Alfred (Jammie) Fields, Amanda (Brian) Johnson, James (Elizabeth) Johnson,Kevin (Missy) Little, Rebecca Kouns, Matthew (Randi) Fields, Jon-Michael (Taylor) Fields and Joseph Ingram; twenty-three great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; three brothers, PaulMeade, Silas Meade, Winston (Kathy) Meade and a number of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Billie Loraine McKinney, age 85, of Fleming, Kentucky, passed away Sunday November 10, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on July 26, 1928 in Goose Creek, Kentucky. She was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church and Daughters of the AmericanRevolution. 

   She was a daughter of the late Wesley Holcomb and Nettie Bentley Holcomb and was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel McKinney, a daughter,Nettie Lou Hogg and a sister, Virginia Vanover.

   Survivors include a son, Sam McKinney, of Elliotville, Kentucky; three sisters, Laura Jane Fannon, of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Georgia Hufford, ofHillsboro, Ohio, Sadie Jones, of West Union, Ohio; Bessie Lou Hewitt, of Wilmington, Ohio; three brothers, Otho Holcomb, of Cleveland, Ohio, Prince Holcomb, of Roanoke, Virginia and Hiram Holcomb, ofDetroit, Michigan; three grandchildren, Shane McKinney, Ashley Belcher, Jasarae McKinney and her mother, Ingrid; and a host of family and friends.

Janice Marie Johnson, age 69, of Haymond, Kentucky, passed away Sunday November 10, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. She was born on June 2, 1944 in Norton, Virginia. She lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  She had worked for H&R Block for many years as a tax preparer and attended  the Burdine Church of God of Prophecy. 

   She was a daughter of the late Everett Hunsaker and Juanita Kilgore Hunsaker and was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Mullins.

   Survivors include her husband of forty six years, Samuel “James” Johnson, of Haymond, Kentucky; a daughter, Juanita Denise King, of Pikeville, Kentucky;four grandchildren, Rachel King (Devon) Caudill, of Burdine, Kentucky, Charlie Mullins, Cody Mullins and Cayman Mullins, all of Haymond, Kentucky; one great-grandson, Riley Jett Caudill, Burdine,Kentucky; three sisters, Helen (Lonnie) Mullins, of Wakeman, Ohio, Shirley Hunsaker, of Pikeville, Kentucky and Karen Hunsaker, of Lorain, Ohio; one brother, Everett (Rachel) Hunsaker, Jr., ofJenkins, Kentucky; she is also survived by two special nieces, host of other nieces and nephews and relatives and friends.

Harold  Don  Brown, age79 , of Seco, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday November 19, 2013 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard,Kentucky.  He was born on October 23, 1934 in Hemphill, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky. Mr. Brown was a truck driver for Adams Stone for over 30 years.  He was of the Christian Faith.

 

   Mr. Brown was the son of the late Tom Brown and Lula Hughes Brown and was also preceded in death by, a daughter, Joyce Ann Brown; several brothers andseveral sisters.

 

   Survivors include a daughter, Keisha Newsome, Pikeville, Kentucky; two sons, Tommy Ray Brown, of Haymond, Kentucky & Donnie Andrew Brown, LetcherCounty, Kentucky; one grandchild, Daniel Keith Tommy Ray Brown; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

William Thomas Bentley, 87, of Eubank, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  He was born in Etty, Kentucky onJune 20, 1926, son of the late Andrew Jackson and Marilyn Burkes Bentley.  He was a retired miner from Beth Energy and a member of Eubank Church of Christ.  He was a U.S. Armyveteran.

 

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Joyce Mullins Bentley, his parents, step son, Tim Todd, onebrother, Douglas Fairbanks Bentley and four sisters, Hazel Johnson, Barbara Strange, Annie Elkins and Janie Yarber.

 

He is survived by his wife, Leona Todd Bentley of Eubank, one daughter, Shirley Bentley Ingram & (Russell) ofNancy, step son, Herbert K. Todd of Kings Mt., Kentucky, two grandchildren, Marcus & (Lori) Ingram and Jennifer & (Chris) Wilson, two step grandchildren, Kaitlyn Leanne Todd and Logan AndrewTodd and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Hampton and Madeline Wilson.

      Juanita Grace Bevins, age 66, of Neon,Kentucky, passed away Friday November 29, 2013, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, Kentucky.  She was born on March 8, 1947 at Hogg Hollow, Neon, Kentucky. She had lived inOsteen, Florida and had made Letcher County, Kentucky her home for the last six years.  In her younger years, she was passionate about writing poetry and enjoyed art and being an artist. Juanita was an avid antique collector.  She was a homemaker and member of the McRoberts Church of Christ. 

   Ms. Bevins was a daughter of the late George and Gladys Juanita Baker Hall.  She was also preceded in death by herhusband, Allen D. Bevins and an infant brother.

   Survivors include her two daughters, Sheryl Yvonne (Paul) McVay, of Deltona Florida and Deborah Lynn (Shawn) Bowman, ofNew Smyrna Beach, Florida.

   Elaine Hall, age 87, of Haymond, Kentucky passed away Monday December 9, 2013, at the Parkview Nursingand Rehabilitation Center, Shelby Valley, Kentucky.  She was born on February 7, 1926 at Jenkins, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a homemaker andwas a member of the Haymond Freewill Baptist Church. 

   She was a daughter of the late Eva and Georgia Whitaker Roberts.  She was also preceded in death by her husband,Elbert Hall; her brother, James Roberts; and a grandson, Bobby Fleming.

   Survivors include two daughters, Madonna (Bobby) Pass, of New Philadelphia, Indiania and Dorthy Fleming, of B&O Hill,Jenkins, Kentucky; a sister, Dorothy Sowards, of Belleview, Florida; two brothers, Jack Roberts, of Belleview, Florida and Larry Roberts, of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren, Rhonda Fleming, ofJenkins, Kentucky, Michael Quillen, of Versailles, Kentucky and Steven Quillen, of Fairfax, Virginia; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family andfriends.

   Darrell “Porky” Leonard Hall, age 67, of New Market, Tennessee, passed away Sunday December 8, 2013, at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital,New Market, Tennessee.  He was born on March 2, 1946, at Neon, Kentucky and was raised in Letcher County, Kentucky.  He owned a boat dock in and lived in Glasglow, Kentucky, he later livedin Fort Myers, Florida and had made New Market, Tennessee his home for the last fifteen years.  He worked in the timeshares industry for Diamond Resorts, served as a District Deputy Grand Masterfor the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, was a member of the Lonesome Pine Lodge #884 of Neon, Kentucky and was a member of the York Rite 

   He was a son of the late Leonard “Hooker” and Grace Hall.

   Survivors include his wife, Karen Hall, of New Market, Tennessee; a son, Erik Hall, of Fort Myers, Florida; a daughter, Kim Jones, of Fort Myers, Florida;two step-daughters, Shawna Wyatt and Megan Deweese, both of London, Kentucky; two grandsons; a step-granddaughter; and a host of other family and friends.

   Nannie Cook, age 93, of Kona, Kentucky passed away Monday December 9, 2013, at the Genesis Homestead, Lancaster, Ohio.  She was bornon December 28, 1919 at Sandlick, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a homemaker and attended the Hemphill Baptist Church. 

   She was a daughter of the late Shade and Elsie Combs Adams.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion Cook; three children, Billie Cook,Charlotte Cook and Eddie Cook; three sisters, Isabella, Eliza and Georgie; two brothers, Tanny Adams and Hillard Adams; and a grandson, Richard Hall.

   Survivors include two daughters, Emma Jean (Jimmy) Reed, of Elkhart, Indiana and Linda (William) Climer, of Lancaster, Ohio; two sons, Roy (Linda) Cook,of Louisville, Kentucky and Johnny (Denica) Cook, of Wellston, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Doug, Tammy, Melvin, Lisa, Brian, Jason and Jonathan; fourteen great-grandchildren; fourgreat-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Fred (Caldonia) Adams; special friends, Francine (Gary) Potter, of Kona, Kentucky; her loving animal companion, Jake; and a host of other family andfriends.

   Billy Edward Wright, age 79, of Neon, Kentucky passed awayTuesday December 10, 2013, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on November 19, 1934 at Fleming, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of LetcherCounty, Kentucky.  He had worked as a coal miner for Bethlehem Steel.  Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers of Americaand the Mayking Church of Christ.

   He was a son of the late Robert and Lola Lewis Wright.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Wright; asister, Bobbie Cornett; and a niece, Carol Cornett.

   Survivors include his daughter, Vickie (Bobby) Webb, of Neon, Kentucky; his grandson, Michael Webb, of Neon, Kentucky;and a host of other family and friends.

     Jenny Christine Watts, age 18, of Thornton, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday December 11, 2013.  She was born onFebruary 14, 1995, at Whitesburg, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  She was a very warm hearted person, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  She loved spendingtime with her friends and family and was very close to her sister, Lindsey.  She was a graduate of Letcher County Central Class of 2013, where she had the distinction of maintaining a 4.0GPA.  Jenny was looking forward to studying nursing at Alice Lloyd College in January.

   She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ray Adams, Jr. and Linda Hatton, and her paternal grandparents, Harold Vanover and Helen VanoverHall.

   Survivors include her mother, Melissa Watts, of London, Kentucky; her father, Danny Vanover, of Sergent, Kentucky and his partner, Lyndsey Whitt, ofMillstone, Kentucky; her sister, Lindsey Danielle Watts, of London, Kentucky; her fiancé, Dustin Bradshaw, of Isom, Kentucky; and a host of other friends and family. 

   Visitation will be held on Friday and Saturday December 13 and December 14, 2013 after 6 PM at the Neon United Methodist Church.  Funeral serviceswill be held on Sunday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Neon United Methodist Church, with Frank Holbrook and others officiating.  Interment will follow at the Dixon Cemetery, Red Star,Kentucky.

 

   Willard Marion Hall, age 67, of Cromona, Kentucky, passed away Sunday December 22, 2013 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tennessee.  He was born on July 13, 1946 atMcRoberts, Kentucky and was a lifelong resident of Letcher County, Kentucky.  He worked for over thirty years as a diesel mechanic for Adams Stone.  Mr. Hall was a veteran of the UnitedStates Army, member of the American Legion Post 104, Neon, Kentucky, and was of the Christian faith.

   He was a son of the late Curt and Bessie Johnson Hall.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Curt Hall, Jr.and a sister, Susan Arnette.

   Survivors include his wife, Donna Hall, of Cromona Kentucky; two daughters, Rebecca Hunter and Jennifer Conley, both ofDalton, Georgia; three sons, James Hall, of Neon, Kentucky, John Hall, of Crandle, Georgia and Willard Hall, Jr., of Cromona, Kentucky; two sisters, Brenda Yeakel, of Nazareth, Pennsylvania andBonnie Marich, of Cromona, Kentucky; a brother, Charles Hall, of London, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends. 

   Visitation services will be held on Thursday December 26, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home NeonChapel.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Terry Isaac officiating.  Interment will follow at the Hall Family Cemetery, McRoberts, Kentucky.  

   Cora Arvenia Minor, age 82, of Burdine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday December25, 2013 in Ringgold, Georgia.  She was born on November 30, 1931 at Norton, Virginia, and lived most of her life in Letcher County, Kentucky.  Ms Minor was a homemaker, who attended theBurdine Freewill Baptist Church, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had a passion for reading.  She was a devoted mother to her six children and a loving grandmother.

   She was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Goldie Blane Freeman.  She was also preceded in death by husband, Earl Minor; a son, LarryMaggard; a grandson, Chad Fleming; a son-in-law, Billy Lawson; a sister, Florence Gibson; and an infant brother.

   Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Fleming, of Burdine, Kentucky, Sandra Maggard, of Cleveland, Tennessee, Lana Lucas and DeborahLawson, both of Orlando, Florida; a son, Chester Maggard, of Ringgold, Georgia; two sisters, Charlotte Adams, of Wise, Virginia, and Bessie Thompson, of Norton, Virginia; a brother, Emory Bolling, ofCanton, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

   Visitation will be held on Saturday December 28, 2013 after 6:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home, Neon, Kentucky.  Funeral services will beheld on Sunday December 29, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home with Jeff Slone and Willie Lamb officiating.  Interment will follow at the United Methodist Church Cemetery, Surgoinsville,Tennessee.
